How to unlock the Up to the Challenge 2 achievement in Just Cause 2 - Definitive Guide
Approach the location and look for a flag post that is eye-high. You do not need a vehicle to start the race as it will be provided. There are different types of races requiring different vehicles and different skill levels. You will see all this information on a confirmation screen once you pushed near the flag post.
The actual races are checkpoint races. For every gate you will get a time bonus. Your finishing time does not matter as long as you don't run out of time. Vehicles can be wrecked during the race as long as you can replace them before you have not enough time left to finish the challenge. Take note of the vehicle type. You will get a message at the start of the race informing you explicitly that only specific vehicles can be used. Only those can be used to cross the checkpoints. The categories are air, road, water and foot.
You can find the provided vehicles near the flag post. They will be easy to spot most of the time. Take your time and look around as most of the time they are best for completing the challenge. The race will start once you cross the starting line.
For those of you who struggle with some of the races I put together some general advise:
- When you start the challenge you will also spawn a vehicle. Most of the time it is a good idea to use that one. However you are free to choose. Just remember that once you start it you will be restricted to a certain area before the challenge fails so be sure to bring your vehicle to the flag (and don't park it where the other one will spawn or yours will despawn) before you start the challenge.
- When you start a challenge you will despawn all nearby military units. This comes in handy. Just remember that your Wanted Level will not drop and that the military will most likely just be around the corner to shoot up your tires. I advise starting challenges only when your Wanted Level is all the way down.
- Ground Vehicle challenges; remember that you can switch vehicles at any time. You only have to be in a ground vehicle when you cross the gates. You can parachute to take shortcuts or switch if your vehicle is damaged. Calling in a vehicle from the Black Market is also sometimes a good solution when you are in a secluded area.
- Boat challenges; It is easier to take turns when releasing the throttle. Sliding over land will slowly damage your vehicle. Don't do it too often except when the challenge is designed in a way where you obviously have to.
- Air vehicle challenges; most of the times it is easier to go with helicopters than planes. Especially in the city area. Try using planes and when you find it to hard, go with a helicopter. I suggest picking up the small one from the Black Market. It has not much health but it is really fast and handles well when upgraded.
- On foot challenges; most of these revolve around base-jumping. It is basically trial and error. Just remember that you are allowed to parachute and grapple. Anything is legal as long as you pass the gates in time.

You are not bound by the vehicle type. You can complete the challenges with any vehicle you can get through the rings. This includes some of those particularly evil Base Jumping challenges!
I recommend an upgraded Rowlinson K22.
Take care of your vehicles. Especially the buggies, that tend to blow up. Nothing worse than losing your fast car on the really long runs.
Airplane challenges are easy, just steer clear of the large poles and swing back in for the ring.
Boat challenges - MAKE SURE you stay on track, otherwise you've pretty much failed. Turning in boats is unforgiving.
so some tips;
stick to the 1 and 2 star difficulties.
only do a handfull of 3 star. (to make up the numbers)
avoid the base jumps (try but i found them the most difficult).
Use the buggy thingy for land clallenges (from black market).
The Rowlinson (from black market) for air (can also be used for land and sea).
Vehicles can be orderd during challenges (just in case yours blows up)
Upgrade the vehicles you use the most.
some of the skydiving ones are a pain in the ass, but only take a few tries.
For the flying ones use the fully upgraded red and black little helicopter, it is fast enough when upgraded to make it through all of the races.
This is the second of two challenge trophies. The first (above) requires you to complete 10 challenges, this trophy requires you to complete 50.
As you go through the game unlocking stronghold takeovers/faction missions/agency missions you will also begin to unlock race challenges. If you open your PDA you can spot them on the map as being a checked race flag. There are actually 75 altogether so you know you don’t have to complete them all, any completed challenges will have a green tick in them.
The challenges will range from easy difficulty to hard difficulty, but even hard isn’t hard at all. There are also 4 different types of challenges, these are:
1. Car Checkpoint Race
2. Boat Checkpoint Race
3. Plane Checkpoint Race
4. Base Jump/Parachuting Checkpoint Race
With the first 3 you need to be in that specific type of vehicle and make your way through each checkpoint as they appear, a vehicle will be provided nearby if you can’t find a decent one for yourself. Also as you pass through each checkpoint you will be given some bonus time so you should never run out.
The Base Jump/Parachuting challenges are slightly different. You still need to pass through each checkpoint but you could be free-falling through the air, using the parachute or just run through them on foot.
Along with the faction missions explained earlier, challenges will unlock in the territories. The checkered flags on your map represent the challenges.
There are 4 kinds of challenges (Ground, Water, Air and Base-jumping) with a difficulty rating of 1-3 stars. If you have trouble with a challenge, just take it slow. Most challenges add a fairly large amount of time with each checkpoint, so in most cases, your main goal should be not to crash. Steer clear of Base-jump challenges as they can prove to be quite tricky. But by all means, do try them for fun !
Note: Completed challenges will receive a check, making it very easy to track down the ones you haven't done yet.

PS
a little from myself...
1. Car tests are not difficult, for each test you are given a car better than the new one and take it (although there are no restrictions on this).
2. Flight tests. there are two types:
Type I - they give you a corn cracker. We don’t get into the corn farm, but order a helicopter from the black market; I note that it must be upgraded to 6 stars.
Type II - they give you a jet plane. Here you will have to call a fully upgraded jet from the black market and use the landing mode (extended landing gear) more often.
3. BASE jumping tests - you have to jerk off and nothing else.
