How to unlock the All the Gears achievement in Just Cause 3 - Definitive Guide

Just some tips for the ones that are actually challenging. Mainly putting this up for the Wingsuit cheese but will throw some other helpful tips in anyways.

Wingsuit
Once you unlock the air brake start practicing with it, it can be extremely useful to be able to slow down on certain parts of a course where the game would otherwise have you bombing through it like a mad man. (just don't take the second upgrade for Wingsuit brake while you're doing the challenges facepalm)

The next tip is what allowed me to get 5 gears on every wingsuit challenge. On certain courses you can abuse the low flying bonus. You do this by finding a relatively level part of the course and just simply find 2 ideally elevated reel in points to keep yourself moving and fly in circles until you're confident you have the points to finish the course with the points you need. Every wingsuit challenge i could i did without using this, but some of them are just insane.

Racing
Check each race before you start, if it lets you use sports cars use the Mugello Farino Duo. I was using this even on the offroad'ish tracks and it just makes things so much easier.

Don't get too stressed about the driving challenges early on, driving challenges are supposed to be doable with what you have when you find them using the default car but if you are really struggling just return to it later when you have Nitrous II.

Flying Races
Come back to all of them with the CS7 Thunderhawk for planes and the CS Navajo for the helicopter ones. Just remember with the CS7 Thunderhawk, if you hold down the acceleration your nitrous will never recharge.

Again like with the driving races, getting to the point where you have Nitrous II for planes & helicopters will make things easier.

Sea Races
Nitrous II

Destruction
Destroying vehicles around the base will keep your multiplier up. One trick i used was to group up all of the vehicles i could and destroy those first to get my multiplier up before i destroyed the big earners.

Check the base when you start for choppers, if you find one, use it. Surprisingly a lot of them do which kinda makes the challenge pointless.

If there are no choppers, there will be vehicles with turrets around that you can position in places for best line of sight of the chaos objects. For challenges like these you will want to preset some tethers so that you can get some points from objects you would otherwise be unable to get.

Hope this helps, have fun!

I had completed all missions, liberated all areas, collected all cars, weapons and collectables. It said I had unlocked all challenges, except for one it said 17/18. I started to worry I couldn't get this achievement. But if you find out the challenge you're missing, you can work out the relevant settlement that 'should' have unlocked it. Once you complete the game, you get an option to 're-oppress' any settlement, which allows you to re-do any settlement, and should unlock any glitched challenge. This helped me, so wanted to share :)

Good tip on the wing suit mod. It never gets easier but break when you can. You'll soon figure out when and where to slow down.

I just want to say the flying is horrible in this game, about 5 of the races involving planes I used a jet and ended up doing the entire course upside down because whoever designed the controls was on crack...

You should mention for Daredevil sprint, (bike only) the easy way to win this is to call a rebel drop of your sportscar of choice at the intersection BEHIND where the race starts. Then start the race, go back and get your sportscar. The game will still count it.

I just finished at 1:20 using the Murvello Duo.

Pretty much goes for any race that doesn't let you pick the vehicle you want. Rebel drop first.

As far as the bavarium towing challenges, it took me a while to figure out that you have to hit cn_LB when the ball is tethered to your car to turn it on and off. While using it, never drive faster than 30-40 km/h. Going any faster not only makes the ball whip around randomly, the bavarium chunks just don't stay attached if you go much faster. Drive through buildings and look out for piles of it on small elevated shelves, and you should be pulling 10,000-15,000 back each time you return to the drop off.

Another tip for the Bavarium Towing Challenge requires a little bit of preparation: Bonus points is given for the blue stones which are located on high surfaces, so, (without entering the area), shoot widespread missles into the area to knock down structures/balls and shoot the rest down with LMG. Then go collect them. The key is to go slow for a bigger collection.

Question - do the DLC challenges count towards this cheev? Also, does the jetpack make anything easier?

By SallyNasty on 20 Jun 2016 23:10
No and not really. The DLC jetpack is disabled when you do base disc wingsuit challenges so the only thing it would have been super useful for isn't.

Useful tips so thumbs up. I few things that worked for me might help those that are struggling. On the off road races with only the motorcycle category, use the 4wheeler. After you get to Insula Striate liberate Falco and Montana. This will unlock the hardest wingsuit courses. There are four, start with Mountain Marathon Tour. If you can beat it you can beat the rest. It took me 2 days. Its just practice and memorization. I only air brake once. After the dump trucks and the dirt road you head down the mountain again. Right after the dirtroad ring brake. This helps get 2 to 3 extra bullseye. Other than that dont brake. Practice knowing when to pull up.

@Banemaster117. If you got that close I'm assuming you know how to drive along the beach and launch off the rock to get over the invisible wall. What finally worked for me was aiming for the two cars on the left, even then it was probably just luck and it only put me 63 points over anyway. Just make sure you're cutting all the corners as close as possible. And also you can drive a few feet into the water without getting slowed down, it helped me not only shave off half a second but also line up to the rock a little easier.

Just discovered that you can use the Sky Fortress bavarium wingsuit in the vanilla challenges (thanks to Sami Turunen on YouTube).

You first have to select the flame wingsuit in the options, then fast travel to the challenge, start the challenge and before you jump out of the helicopter go back into the options and change to the bavarium wingsuit.

It's good to have an extra bit of boost with some of the harder challenges!

For offroad races, if you don't want to bother with rebel drop, a lot of them are much easier once you unlock the monster truck which is the bonus for going over all the stunt jumps in the north. It's not affected by terrain much, so it won't go flying out of control when it hits rocks and the like. It's always selectable even when the race wants you to use motorcycles.

Yeah, Laguna Blast is clearly glitched, there's an invisible wall in the way, most of the time the car just blows up the second I bail.

Been trying with the rock, but no luck so far.

OK, finally got it. Used this video, it has a small tip about taking the driver side door off, with the bombs, maybe that helped, or I finally just got lucky.

Regarding the weapon challenges, i found it easier by using precision aim (zooming in) and turning down the thumbstick sensitivity in-game (i can't remember the name of the setting but i know it was to do with sensitivity and i turned it down to the 2nd lowest setting on the slider bar)

Not only do you have to meta most of the races by using special vehicles that you have to look up. You have to deal with RNG with Bavarian collecting and wingman which is horrible. This is almost impossible, you have to cheat in some challenges in order to come close to winning,

Like most challenges, wait until you progress later into the game,so as you get MODS,the challenges get easier. An alternative method to the Destruction Frenzies would be grab the Fire Leech, which in essence is a Cluster bomb, only with homing clusters,5 lock-ons per rocket, happy destruction days ;)

@Bastiaen. Use my second wingsuit tip. I remember having trouble with the Maxime Tour, the one at the final big base you capture in the final province(?). There is a radar dish when you reach a certain part of the course, i used that as one of my grapple points and a tower near it as the second grapple point. Takes a while but you just gotta endure it. You don't have to hit every ring to finish the course, you can just skip them all and hit the finish gate, wouldn't advise this though because you'd drive yourself mad flying in circles. good luck.

Couple of helpful bits of information.

Wingsuit air brake only seems to do anything when you pull back on the left stick at the same time as braking.

Sea nitrous is unlocked by gaining sea race gears, so you'll just have to struggle through 2-3 gears per race until you unlock it. I've found that most sea races are impossible to get 5 gears without nitrous II.

Air nitrous is the same story where it requires gears to unlock, though I've found that the Thunderhawk generally gets 5 gears by itself anyway.

The vehicles mentioned by the solution writer:

Mugello Farino Duo for land races has no static spawns but it is given to you to complete the street race called "City Sprint". You must first liberate Citate Di Ravello in the Regno district of Insula Striate, and the race event is then found at coordinates N 40 44.455 E 5 37.915. Finish the race, then just drive the car to the nearest garage to store it and use it for other races.

CS Navajo for helicopter races is a reward for liberating the Puncta Sud military base. That base is found at the southern end of the Petra province of Insula Dracon, coordinates N 40 41.145 E 5 37.395.

CS7 Thunderhawk for fixed wing aircraft races is a reward for liberating the Griphon military base found at the southwest of the Costa Sud province of Insula Striate, coordinates N 40 44.500 E 5 44.605.

I was finding the Country Sprint Challenge very hard, Using the monster truck in the off road category works the best as it handles the off road parts the best. I finished with plenty of time to spare and I only had Nitrous 1 at the time.

Another tip for the Bavarium towing challenges is to use cn_LT once you connect it, pulling it as close to the vehicle as posssible. This prevents the magnet from flying around while driving. Just take it slow and you'll have plenty of points and time to spare.

On another note, some of these are ridiculous to get five gears on.

Almost all races indeed can be done with the jet fighters to make them a bit easier.
One exception where I found the news chopper with Nitrous II was the best is Volo Metropole, which is by far the hardest air race out there. The news chopper is flexible instead of big and sluggish (especially when steering the bigger choppers it can get into a spin costing you precious time, as the goal for 5 gears is a whopping 1 minute sharp!) with a lot of weird curves all over, especially at the end.

Firstly, this achievement wouldn't unlock until I had gotten five gears in each DLC challenge.

And now for some tips not covered in the above guide:

For the Sea Races, I would highly suggest using the Loochador if you have access to it, it makes each race incredibly easy with its insane high speeds and agility. I've beaten most races with more than 10 seconds to spare.
The Loochador is also perfect for any boat-related destruction challenges.

You should also make sure to use Vito084's guide to gain access to the Bavarian Wingsuit during the wingsuit runs, this makes them a joke as the target reticle makes guiding the wingsuit down the slopes much easier, and the boost can come in handy for a few runs.
It can also be used for all the destruction challenges and will make a number of them much easier.

And lastly, make sure to hit X when loading up some of the destruction missions, as it will sometimes allow you to select weapons that are far superior. A great example of this is the Mortar Frenzy challenge... One of the alternative weapons is the Eden Spark which makes short work of the entire base, unlike the mortar it wants you to use which is terrible.

This achievement is actually really easy - this guide helped make it easy. Waiting to get good scores until you have the best MODs & vehicles unlocked was key for me.

Be aware of these, they were by far way harder than the other challenges in my opinion - the Wingsuit course Mountain Marathon Tour (took me 6 hours to get 5 Gears on that), Crash Bomb challenges (I just hate them, fortunately there aren't many, but Laguna Blast was awful), the land race Salrosa Sprint (that jump was absurd but the whole sprint is treacherous - if you use the Mugello Farina Duo, don't boost! I still got 32 seconds ahead of the target time without nitrous...) & the sea race Regata Citate (luck, those waves are a catastrophe while boosting with nitrous).

Everything else was really fun & only took a few tries at most. I especially enjoyed the land races with the Mugello Farina Duo - shaky camera at 350km/hr! It was also fun to use the Incendiario for the off-road races! Air races with the CS7 Thunderhawk were great fun too!

Just found this on Youtube, it's an exploit that lets you use the Bavarium wingsuit on all of the wingsuit challenges.

First use "options - downloadable content - wingsuits - flame", then fast travel to challenge and start the challenge. Before hitting "A" to jump out from the helicopter, change to "bavarium wingsuit" in "options". Now you can control your speed with airbreak "LT" and boost "RT" to beat the challenge and get five gears much more easily.

Edit: 14-08-19 from a comment from Jissi toast

- you have to buy the SkyFortress DLC and complete the first mission
- in the open world, thru Options-DLC change wingsuit from Bavarium to Flame
- Once started the challenge, but before jumped out from the heli, switch it back to Bavarium
- if you fail the challenge redo the last 2 points.

I take no credit fot the Youtube video all credit goes to Sami Turunen.

Nice, seems like that wingsuit can potentially stay in the air forever with the boost? So if it is really needed I can just fly in a little circle for as long as i need and let the score go up slowly? I might have to star this and unlock everything now.

This can also be used during all destruction challenges, making some with annoying requirements (like using only your grapple and grenades) really easy.

And a pro tip - If it looks like you are going to fail to get the five gears, quickly open the inventory and change back to the flame wingsuit, this will save you from having to quit the challenge before trying again.

Earning this trophy is very time consuming.

There are six categories of challenges in the game. See each category below for more details.
- Wingsuit courses
- Chrash Bomb Challenges
- Races (land, air, sea)
- Destruction Frenzy
- Scapyard Scramble
- Shooting Ranges

Wingsuit courses
Wingsuit courses are probably the most difficult type of challenges. Most of them are not so difficult, if you have some expeience with the wingsuit. But a few of them are truly challenging to get all 5 gears.
- In general terms, the faster you fly the harder Rico is to controll. So I strongly recomend to unlock and use the "airbreak" mod and to deactivate the "auto landing" mod if unlocked. So always try to take out speed if you dont need it.
- To obtain 5 gears on the wingsuit courses, you will basically have to go for the "PERFECT" rating for every single ring by flying through the smaller red respective yellow combo rings. This will give you 2000 pts. bonus for each ring. It may be allowed, that you can have one or two close misses ("GREAT" rating worth 750 pts.). But try to aim for the "PERFECT" rating on every ring.
- Depending on the individual courses scoring goal, you also will need to obtain a certain amount of "close to ground" bonus points. Remember that you will need a certain falling speed near the ground or else you will crash. Also there is a high risk of hitting an object. When you clearly hear an "blowing wind" sound effect close to the ground, this is an acoustic feedback sound for this bonus.
- Remember that you are allowed and advised to use your grappling hook to gain speed if needed. Gain some extra speed by holding down cn_L2 when retracting your grapling hook with the respective mod unlocked and activated.

Crash Bomb Challenges
- This type of challenges are pretty easy to obtain. When your speed falls below a certain amount, you will get time substracted. But the time needed to complete this challenges is a major factor in the scoring result. If you avaoid falling down below the minimum speed margin, you might drive off-road for taking shortcuts on your way to the goal.

- When you are close to the goal, try to aim at the center of the enemy vehicles for maximum amount of destruction.

- Bail out the vehicle as late as possible to avoid your vehicle exploding before it hits the target.

Races
- There are 3 types of races: land, air, sea.

- I strongly recommend to unlock and activate the "speed booster" mods of each category while turning off the "jump" mods.

- Normally you have a default vehicle for each event, but you can always change it with any other allowed vehicle you have unlocked in the rebel drop by pressing cn_S in the challenge overview screen.

- Any other vehicle nearby can be entered before you go through the first checkpoint

- Land races: The "Mugello Farina Duo" F-1 car is basically the best choice, unbeatable for every race. So, unlock it as early as possible. It is the preset car for the "City Sprint" racing event near the city "Citate diRavello" (Regno Region on Insula Striate) and can be brought to the garage after finishing this race. It also can be found on a ramp/trailer on the road leading to Manaea (Baia region).

- Sea races: The "Pescada SS" boat is the preset for basically every sea race. If not, pick it anyway. The times to beat for some of this races are impossible to beat without both turbo bost mods

- Air races. The "Urga Acrobat" plane is the preset for most plane races. I would recomend using a jet though. They are fast (d'uh! ;) ) but pretty smooth to operate. If you don't have unlocked one already, you can find one at the air strip in the rebel hideout cave in the Cuda region. Just land it near the starting point of any given air race challenge.
If you have to use a helicopter, I recomend the "CS Navajo". The air race near "Citate di Ravello" requires a REALLY FAST helicopter, so the "CS Mstitel" is needed. This one can be unlocked after beating the last story mission.

Destruction Frenzy
Those challenges can be based on either using a certain vehicle or a heavy weapon.

- Sometimes you are allowed to select another similar vehicle or weapon if you might have already unlocked it. Also before you start your frenzy run you are free to enter any vehicle you can find within the area of the challenge.

- Most important rule: Before you start, check out the area and carefully plan your route. Sometimes you have to set-up things before you even start. But this set-up may take much more time than the actual frenzy run. Also you can place your teters on any object.

- Some objects can be partitially damaged before you even start your run. Remember that the countdown only starts when the first object is COMPLETELY destroyed.

- The key to success is keeping the score mutliplicator counter at the maximum of 8x. To keep it high while not shooting at actual chaos objects you can also blow up other vehicles within your reach. Also if possible, try to create chain reactions to safe valuable seconds.

- Also be aware that even when you ran out of time, as long as your point multiplicator is active you still can continue your frenzy run.

Scapyard Scramble
This is basically the easiest kind of challenges.
- The Countdown will not start before you enter the scrapyard area.
- Sometimes you can prepare little chunks of bavarium pieces before the countdown starts using your tether.
- Before you start your actual run, drive through the areas as plan effective routes
- Drive slow and careful.
- Don't evenn bother dealing with enemies, they are just distracting you but are no actual threat
- You can easily collect large chunks of bavarium pieces befor delivering it to the collecting pit
- the larger the chunks you drop at the pit the more additional time you get as bonus. Pieces of pure bavarium earns you a higher bonus.
- Don't force on collecting only pure bavarium pieces. Instead create mixed chunks for best results.

Shooting Ranges
Tricky, but not too complicated.
- Afair there are 4 ranges spread across medici. Three in Rebel hideouts, one after you liberated the capital city "Citate di Ravello". These are: Handgun, revolver, shotgun, machine gun
- Simmillar to the "Destruction Frenzy" the key to success is keeping the point multiplicator up.
It's actived when hitting bulls eye but reset if you don't. There is no permanent multiplicator in the shotgun range, instead it increases depending on how many targets you hit at once with one shot.
- It's much easier if you have unlocked and activated the "Free Aim" mod (pressing cn_RS)
- It can be helpful to move around a little bit from time to time, not always standing on the same spot all the time.
- Memorize the rotation cycle of the targets. They are always the same. Also don't forget you need to reload from time to time.

As always: Please leave a comment or suggestions if you think somethink could be added or is unclear. Anonymus downvotes of solutions are not fair to the author.

If you're stuck on the Laguna Blast challenge, don't worry, you're not being paranoid, this one actually IS the worst one. Besides the invisible wall around the vehicles to blow up, this challenge was actually made HARDER with updates that raised the score required to get all 5 Gears on it. If you have the game on disc, you can play the unpatched version, get the 5 Gears on this challenge much easier, then once you've reached 100% on all challenges and collectibles, make sure your game saves, THEN go online. The game will still register that you hit 100% completion and the Achievements will unlock once you're online again.

Keep in mind, the unpatched version of the game has substantial lag when opening the map screen.

Tests in the shooting range click , for precise aiming, then shoot. Helps a lot. Only at the end I realized this.

To make passing the tests easier, add as a friend the person who took platinum. In the game you will be able to compete with his ghost, which makes passing the tests easier.

Also, in the shooting range, I advise you to disable 'show all' in the interface settings. Leave only the weapon crosshairs. This way you are less distracted.

When passing the wingsuit test, you can simply fly in circles around the track and collect points.

For a shooting range, I advise you to lower the sensitivity in the settings, find the one at which you feel comfortable aiming, I passed the test with ordinary pistols the second or 3 times, but I struggled with revolvers for a long time

In tests with flight in a wingsuit, you can use Bavarian due to a bug in the game. I checked it on version 1.05, the scheme is working. Naturally, you must have the Air Fortress DLC and completed the first task in it.
Unfortunately, the Bavarian wingsuit will not fly for you on the track, but it can help in those tests where you just can’t knock out five gears.

The only really difficult trophy in the main game. Here are some tips from personal experience:
1. Collect vehicles and weapons. It's always good to have a choice.
2. Level two nitro is required for racing. Without it, five gears is an unattainable dream in any element. It recovers faster and gives better acceleration than normal.
3. A sports boat is ideal on the water. Balance of handling and speed.
4. On earth, I personally used a sports car under Bugatti Veiron or Formula 1. If they cannot be selected, then the default transport is used.
5. In the air, it is better to take a fighter or helicopter with shields. They are the fastest.
6. Speaking of the helicopter. In fracture tests they are almost always present. Even if the condition includes a machine gun.
7. If there is no helicopter, explore the area, select the most valuable objects of chaos and tighten the cables in advance. It's better to first unlock all the relevant modifiers.
8. Start with the cheapest objects to build up your combos. Small satellite dishes or equipment are best suited. Try not to lose x8, this is critical in some tests.
9. It is better to prepare complex objects in advance so that one shot is enough to destroy them. These are mining excavators, large satellite dishes, etc.
10. Try to do one type of test without getting distracted. This way you will gain skill, and each next one will be easier.
11. Car bomb tests are sometimes tricky. If you can't make it in time, watch the video.
12. There are no special tactics for wingsuit racing. This is the most difficult part, only training will help. In tests with forks, there may not be enough rings - again, choose the route according to video tips.
13. Don't disdain the air brake. In the later stages, you can’t live without it. For flying close to the ground you get more points; in some races this can even out imperfect completion of one or two rings.
14. Take your time at the shooting range. Everything is more than simple. The main thing is not to smudge, or the combo will reset.

I advise you to complete the races when you unlock double acceleration for cars, planes and boats. Without this, it is almost a waste of time and nerves. Car racing is best done on the Mugello Farino Duo. For boat racing, it is better to use the Squalo X7 or Pescespada SS. In airplane racing there are 2 jets, they are unlocked by capturing a specific base. This is cs7 thunderhawk or u-7 dravec. First, go as far as you can, to 3-4 stars, if you’re lucky to get 5. There are more races than you need. As soon as double acceleration is unlocked, using this technique you will win 5 gears without any problems. I always had 10-20 seconds left.
There are no tactics as such for wingsuit. It will be useful to open the braking to . It has come to the rescue more than once in critical situations. The lower to the ground you fly, the faster the points go. Of course, you need to fly into the red circle for 2000 experience.
In competitions like destroying everything from a tank, bazooka, boat, etc., look for a plane nearby. Makes the task very easy. In 90% of cases it is.
