How to unlock the This was Supposed to be a Western achievement in Just Cause 3 - Definitive Guide
This is not really a solution but I want to point out that you can replay any base as soon as you finished the game. So don't worry if you have missed one or all of the easy bases.

Signal24Code20, try a different base and if you have the DLC with the mechs order a mech. It's easier and it should count. Maybe a glitch to a special base?

Thank you Sunny Kloud for this information. This helped me out with being able not to worry to much. I can also confirm that once you beat the Main story of the game you are still able to go back and blow stuff up. and you can re-liberate the place as well. there is an option for it.

That flip made my day

Sadly, I could not find a way to do this. I had to restart my entire save file; however, there are other bases that you can do this in.

By the time I read all of the above solutions I had already liberated all of those bases. Another good one is the Cima Leon: Transmitter located in the Feno Province of Isla Fonte (the coordinates are: N 40 42.012 E 5 43.152. Approach the base from the southwest and there is a Urga Bkolos 2100 tank at the dead end road that is in the shape of a curly cue. From there you can destory alot of the Chaso Objects and move down the road to destory the rest. Watch out for enemy light tanks and SUVs.

This is the easiest, just get in the tank, blow up the few military and the tower, don't move your tank. Shot everything from a far range, and the only thing you need to drive for is the power station just below you. I think if you move the tank in total 50 meters it's a lot already

Ya, this worked really well for me too. Nice and easy.

Just an update to the above guides--the Mechs which are added to the game via the new Land DLC are considered "vehicles" and can be used to win this achievement. Makes it quite easy if you have a buffed out Mech.
The Cima Leon: Transmitter base is an easy one for this achievement. You can try to do this in a helicopter, but I kept getting shot down. Tanks and Bomber Jets are your best options.
Just gonna start by saying this is not the easiest but I already finished the silo camp mentioned in previous solutions and I'm hard headed so I tried to find another base too do this at. Port Darsena in the Trio section of Dracon is all connected by a road which you can drive a tank on. I went out of my way too get the Bavarium Tank and i was easily able too get the achievement just took some patience. To get the tank (which is pretty awesome in general too have) you go to these coordinates 46.925, 43.347 and just clear out the settlement. I have maybe 5 upgrades the hardest part was all the traveling and I'm about halfway through the story line. If you have any questions or critiques don't be afraid too comment and i hope it helps a few out.
I'm just going to throw this out there as another alternative for those of us who goofed and cleared Cima Leon: Transmitter (or Silo) too early...
Cava Montana, situated at the base of the main mountain on the big island.
It looks big (and really kind of is) but it has very little in the way of air defenses so you can grab a CS Navaho or U-7 Dravec and pretty much go to town. The only real challenge is the base commander, who will arrive in a shielded helicopter.
As an added bonus, clearing this base unlocks the Bavarium Tank

I missed out on all the bases mentioned in previous solutions, I just popped this at Cava Geminos Est (47.535, 34.628) which is on the huge northern island Insula Striate in the Rocca Blau Province, it literally has 1 SAM and once that was destroyed I just unloaded everything from my chopper into the ground below, a medium size base with mainly fuel tanks and transformers (around 20-25 objects to destroy in total - and no base commander)
So don't fear missing this one too much, I was starting to worry myself, there are quite a few bases knocking around and if like me you have fully liberated the bottom 2 islands, there is still time on Insula Striate.

Thanks for the solution. Got shot down in a Helicopter 3 times too from jets.
Also I' like to mention (because I didn't watch your Video completely). If you get killed while trying to take down the base, it won't count towards the trophy. It hase to be done in one try.
So: Good old savegame backup recommended.

I found the base in the very top left of the map in Rocca Blau to be quite easy. If you hijack a battleship you can just float near the base and potshot most of the chaos objects from safety, the ai barely seemed to care I was there.

Another really easy base to get this on is Le Tutor.its on a small island in the insule fonte at coordinates n 40 39.936 e 5 41.881. It's north of the large base Porto vena. There are no tanks here you have to steal a helicopter then fly here and drop in your own tank. I used the urga bkolas 2100 and it was a breeze. There are only maybe 20 chaos objects you have to destroy. Oh ya dont forget to hack the 4 sams here to make short work of pesky helicopters.
I got this achievement in the Porto Cavo base on Capite West, the is one SAM site but I did it in the first tank, apart from a few gates (you can shoot the panel to open them) there is nothing which requires getting out of the vehicle to activate
I was most of the way through the game, but still managed to get this at Cava Geminos Sud. It has 1 SAM and no other defenses, because it mostly relies on the multiple SAMs that Cava Geminos Nord had. If you take out Nord then Sud is basically unprotected. I used the homing missile jet, wiped out the SAM on the way in, and destroyed the whole thing in a dozen passes - it's actually easier than that, but I had a hard time hitting everything on the excavator.
i screwed up by just going through the game and already liberated the easy base everyone suggests. however, i finally just came across one that worked very easily. in the Insula Dracon region, Petra Province, on the lower section is a base called Puncta Sud. i used the Imperator Bavarium Tank (which the temporary shield is handy), there's a road on the left of the map that leads to a daredevil jump. take the tank there first and blow up what you can, you should be able to hit a good amount from here without anyone really bothering you (atleast when i did it, i killed the few up there and no one else came around). when that's done, then make your way around to the entrance and do a clean up.
BE SURE TO HAVE THAT GATE OPEN THOUGH, I LUCKED OUT AND DROVE AFTER BLOWING UP A TANK UNDER IT SO IT COULDN'T CLOSE.

I found this easiest post final mission at Roma Leon: Transmitter.
When you finish the final mission you will receive the Urge Mstitel helicopter which has a Bavarium shield when you click the left thumbstick. Simply activate the shield and take out the SAM sites first. Fly away a little distance while the shield recharges (taking out enemy helicopters if needed). Then it's just a case of activating the shield, flying in with a rain of rockets, flying off to recharge the shield.
When you take out most of the chaos objects you may have to fly a little lower to pinpoint your last couple of targets.

I had already done "Cima Leon: Transmitter" base, so I tried the "Cima Leon: Silo" Base and my tank was destroyed. I then went to the closest base to Silo which seemed to be "Porto Le Gratia". While this looked difficult I thought, 'what the hell'... I called in my tank I collected from "Cima Leon: Transmitter", the "URGA BKOLOS 2100", just outside the "Porto Le Gratia" base, then (as much as could) from a distance (even before entering the base) took down as much as I could. I then very slowly and carefully went through the base picking everything off as I went. Make sure you take out any aircraft and watercraft as soon as you see them. This worked for me.

Performed only on military bases. You need to destroy the objects of chaos that are necessary to capture the base. The video below is a clear example. This is the CimaLeon: Silo military base on the island of Fonte . Don't use a helicopter...it can be easily shot down.

After completing the story missions, they give you the opportunity to transfer any base to the mode of oppression by the enemy, and you will have very good equipment with weldable shields (including helicopters), this is done very simply on them.
By ManiacRoman on 05 Dec 2015 19:26
Another very easy way is to take a combat helicopter (with missiles) and destroy the Sima-Leon base. 2 minutes and the tofei is yours.

After passing, we switch the base to oppression mode, and you will already have excellent equipment with Bavarian shields, which will greatly simplify the task. Easier to do by helicopter.
