Do you have to finish the race to get credit?

Can confirm that you don't need to finish the race, you can abort after picking up the tiger

My achievement is stuck on 50% completion when I can see in-game that I've completed all AR tiger collections. Sigh.

I had this issue with a few achievements. After not playing for a few days I loaded up the game and they popped.

You can fail a race (get too slow) and still get credit.

To respond to SL1CK CHR1S, yes, I tried with a helicopter and it worked. Furthermore, you can abandon mission as soon as you passed through tiger

Bernman 117, check out this fix from Mitchell Heinig, it helped me unlock all my JC4 achievements that were stuck just like yours: Achievements Not Tracking and Popping

To unlock the Tiger Tamer trophy in Just Cause 4, you will need to drive through all AR tiger images in the Solino Underground's challenges.

You can take the tiger while on a vehicle and immediately exit the race. You can check that the tiger is counted in the upper right corner of the information board when you hover your cursor over a specific race.
