How to unlock the 50 Side Missions Completed achievement in Just Cause - Definitive Guide

You must complete 50 side missions.

I suggest leaving the Side Missions until the end of the game after you have taken over all the settlements (both Military and Montano, but isn't necessary) as long as you can unlock enough guerrilla points to go up in rank to unlock a helicopter that has missiles on it.

After you have obtained a decent chopper, unlock Guerrilla Base #23 (the most southern extraction point) by taking over the military rural area just to the South of it.

Now head south from there to the Military Base, its the only one on that little southern island, its called Los Islas Defence HQ. Take over that base, check this solution by lozzy7 for tips if you are having trouble:
Just CauseSaviour of San EsperitoThe Saviour of San Esperito achievement in Just Cause worth 177 pointsLiberate Every Province In San Esperito

Now you can start grinding them, head back to the #23 via Extraction, jump in your chopper then head back to the base. Talk with the Guerrilla side mission guy (will have green arrows pointing down on him, or a green "!" on the map).

He will give you a side mission and it will NEVER have you go past the little island, he will always send you north about 800M and do something (kill a car, chopper, people, trade item, etc.) The reason you want the chopper with missiles is so you can kill car/ choppers quickly and without a hitch and not have to chase them around.

Now just keep completing them, you should be able to do one about every 1-3 minutes this way. If your chopper explodes, extract back to Base #23, and if you die you will automatically start at that #23 as its the closest base.

Keep grinding and this will eventually be yours!

Just doing this one now - followed the instructions exactly, but for some reason, that base has decided to rearm/respawn the SAMs every time I return to it, blowing my helicopter out of the sky! Something has glitched, but even dashboarding and reloading doesn't seem to fix it. Might try the same solution but on another island. Much appreciated btw, it's a v good/clear solution :)

For anyone wondering, I went off to extraction 1, did some missions there, died a few times, saved at agency 1, dashboard again, load back up, then extracted back to 23, and the SAM sites are working for me again. For some unknown reason they decided to go rogue and attacked everything including me, but when they're working normally they attack everything EXCEPT me. I think accepting missions, dying during missions, something like that causes a glitch.

Great guide, using extraction point #23 and this base was a perfect suggestion. Still a grind, but not nearly as long as it could have been.

Also worth noting that if you get a mission you don't like (which was the hijack missions for me because you lose your chopper) you can just hit 'start mission again' to get a new mission.

Provincia Los Islas definitely the place to do it, but I elected to instead only take trade/pickup missions (using the cherry-picking method MrEDMeaner outlines above) and use the Agency Gyrocopter. The Gyrocopter is the fastest and most nimble helicopter in the game, and also has the extra benefit of being air-dropped anywhere you're standing when you blow it up instead of having to return to a safehouse.

It takes a little more time to get a mission this way but much less effort, which was a tradeoff I was willing to make to finish off this glitchy turd of a game.

definitely the method i am currently doing to finally get this game 1k'd. Savior of san esperito glitched for me and i saved over the previous save just before the final mission (all other territories were taken) this time it worked, and now im doing the side missions using this method. I tried the other 2 solutions as well, just for the heck of it, and i can say they are alot slower. Base 23 has a helicopter with missiles, the other 2 are just regular bases.

Great guide, this really helped. That island is a godsend and actually saves so much time in the grand scheme of things!

I did my last 10 mission in 25 minutes and that was flawlessly with no deaths. So I'd say at least 2 hours and 30 mins for this achievement using this method.

13 and a half years later and still being helpful. Thanks for this, makes the grind a little more tolerable.

So I've realised that most of the time the game will force you to complete the mission at the nearest uncaptured base in any region, that's why the distances can be so long, and so far no mission has taken me out of a region. So we can assume small regions are good places to do these.

I've found a great place to knock out the 50 missions is at Las Crucitas (though any small region should do). Guerrilla Station #16 is there with helpful vehicles and weapon drops (and save stations, don't forget to save often because the game can glitch). I like to get my missions in the town of Santa Ana (close south of the regional military base), there's a large church courtyard where you can get the missions and is helpful for landing the helicopter. Missions are always less than 800m away and are always at the town to the right or a grassy area to the left. I had not captured the military base but mission return was always back to the church, which makes it even easier to get started on the next mission quickly.

Also of the 20 or so missions I done there, 3 were in the town itself and were done in 30 seconds.

I did all of these missions in about an hour, i had completed all of the takeovers by this time, but if you just overthrow the ones around the the base 19 at the bottom-right of the map, and use a helicopter with missiles, you wont have to go far from there, and you'll get 50 missions in no time. hope this helps

There is an even better spot grinding side missions. West of the base Guerilla 19 (59-6 N, 18-6 W) there is a Rioja Villa. It's on the southwest peninsula of Isla Mario Dolorosa. It is very close to the Guerilla Base, which has a Shoulder launched Mako. Getting missions at the villa will send you out for a distance rarely over 500 meters, usually between 300-550m. With the gyrocopter and the Mako previously mentioned, you should be able to tick a mission off within a minute. If you run out of ammo, or happen to die, the Guerilla base is awesomely close.

So knock yourselves out! Go get them side missions! wave

Thanks for this. I managed to beat each mission in roughly 1 minute with ease. I started with the Gyrocopter and promptly stole a police green helicopter during one of them for its rockets, then did all the missions very fast. I parked the helicopter in the Villa's back garden, near the ocean to start/complete missions quickly.

After liberating a settlement, your guerrilla contact (green exclamation point) moves from outside of town, to standing next to the flag that you raised. When you walk up to him, press to begin his side mission. Each contact has an infinite amount of side missions, so it is possible to do all 50 from a single settlement.

One of the quickest ways to accomplish this quickly is to liberate the Island Defense HQ (the government base on top of the hill on the far southwest island). This contact works the best because none of his missions will actually have you leave the island, so you won't have to travel very far. So get a hold of a Chimera, a Skreemer, or some other fighting helicopter and travel to this contact. Land right next to the flag, get out, begin your mission, fly to the target, retrieve/kill/destroy your target, and fly back to the base. Do this 50 times to complete this set of achievements.

Completing missions for this contact will also improve your relations with the guerrillas, which will move you 1,500 points closer (50 missions x 30 points each) to getting the Chimera to appear at your safe houses.
