How to unlock the Burn Baby Burn! achievement in Just Dance 4 - Definitive Guide

While it sounds like this is going to be exactly like the Sweat Challenges from Just Dance 3 and JD Greatest Hits, it is quite different actually.

First, in order to burn calories in Sweat Mode, you have to choose Just Sweat from the "Main Menu" and then pick a sweat class. While you are doing the class, it will keep track of the calories you are burning.
The classes themselves alternate between an aerobics/dance routine and actual songs from the game's track-list. Unfortunately, your results from the Sweat Classes are not carried over to your results in the "Just Dance" list (i.e., you can't use "Just Sweat" as a means to 3 and 5 star every song in the game).

Second, completely unlike JD3 and JDGH, you don't have to burn all 2000 calories in one sitting. JD4 keeps track of the calories you have burnt over your "career" in the game. To check your progress, click on "My Card" in the Just Sweat menu (i.e., instead of one of the classes), and it will give you information pertaining to how long you've spent in sweat mode, how many calories you have burnt in your career and how many calories you burnt in your most recent sweat class.

Third, once again unlike JD3 and JDGH, JD4 does not count the calories that your partner (if you had one) burnt. It will only keep track on the calories that you burnt (or player 1 burnt, I guess). While you are performing one of the classes with a partner, it will keep track of their calories, but it will not add them to your stats.

Fourth, you do not need to do the whole class to have your calories tracked. You can quit at any point in the class and your calories will be added to your stats (again, which are displayed in "My Card"). Also, for me the achievement for 500 calories popped mid-song, so if you find yourself a few calories short of a particular "sweat mode/calories" achievement, just start a 10 minute class and you'll probably have the achievement within a minute or two (that's actually what I did for the 500 calorie achievement).

Well, that is all you need to know about the achievement itself, another thing that is worth noting is that JD4 doesn't seem to be as generous with props as JD3 of GH were regarding calories/sweat points. However, if you are lucky enough to get a towel/hoodie to be read as a dancer, you will get a few more calories than if the game was tracking your calories (i.e., if you were actually dancing). Again though, if you do get a towel or hoodie tracked as a dancer, make sure that it is read as the dancer you are trying to burn calories with.

Finally, about the classes themselves. Before you start a sweat class (there are 10, 25 and 45 minutes classes for each of the 5 routines), it will tell you how many calories you should expect to burn in the class. I have found that their estimates are way off and I always burnt far fewer calories than they told me I would. All in all, unless you figure out a trick I didn't, expect this achievement to take about 9-10 hours in Sweat Mode.

If i can recall it correctly, I got this on a sweat session which i always quitted out after the first song. It's the one left of the tile you start on. I got about 30 to 35 cals on those 2 minutes, everything after that was about 5 cals a minute, so that was a waste of time basically. Just pause the game after the first song, and then pick the same routine over and over again. It's boring but it's the fastest way.

Also, waving a towel in different directions seemed to work best for me.

Interesting. I'll check it out. I have noticed that the game awards you with more calories during the aerobics routines than during the actual songs, so perhaps that is why. 2000 is a long grind though, so testing out your way is definitely worth trying.

As for towel waving...shame! ;)

I used Tinoes' s method, by far the quickest to burn calories.

Yeah cooorpse...agreed. I tried it too and it does work faster. I think the routine I have the most success with is the 4th routine you unlock...and the 25 minute routine. It's hard to get 30 calories in the initial 2 minutes, but 26-28 is very doable.

I meant to update the solution actually, but I'm usually on my smartphone when I'm on TA, and it can be a pain to edit long blocks of text from a phone!

I got this achievement today. To give you a gauge of how long it takes, I did the first 500 calories playing normal (no blanket), and after that point I used Tinoes method (see comment above), and I would get anywhere from 27-34 calories before backing out to the menus and starting again.

My final stats were 62 sessions and about 5 hours. You may be able to do it in four hours, but I recommend pacing yourself as it is cumulative and will get done eventually.

I am going to do this all in one sitting. The only pace for me is 100mph, pedal to the metal.

Lol...right you are. I'm not 12 anymore, so eventually I run out of energy. =)

Is it that 60s workout that you use? I have gotten up to 36 calories in the first two minutes but I can't remember how to get the maximum anymore as I seem to just be averaging at 28 now. Should I be making a jumping movement as well?

When I did the routines normally by myself (to do one in each for the achievement) I only got about 220 calories total so it is pretty pants to have to do this after five starring all the songs. You would have thought the developers would have combined the effort.

I primarily used the 60s 25 minute or the 60s 45 minute workout. I almost always got 28 minutes, but got up to 34 a couple times. Other times, the Kinect would lose sight of me and I'd get only 20-25 as I'd need to do Jumping Jacks to get noticed again.

I think the key is to be super active during the high intensity parts of the workout (usually near the end) as you'll get about double the calories per second that way. Conversely slow down a bit during the low intensity parts as you'll never get much anyway.

My finally tip would be upvoting my solution. I heard that the added karma will net you a few extra calories every couple minutes. Those add up after a while! ;)

* I meant 28 calories and not 28 minutes.

Well, I think 45 minutes/day is enough for me !

I would like to point out that the developers need to learn math. They award kilocalories in the game. Thus if I earn 7 kilocalories I would be done since 2000 calories equals 2 kilocalories. Fucking idiots.

Just to add to the many year old comment above. It’s above and not the developers that are the ‘idiot’.
As kcal is calories, so they did write the right thing.

To burn calories in sweat mode, you simply need to participate in the class. 2,000 calories is a fairly high number, so you will need to keep playing the classes over and over again. One way to help speed things up is to take note of the intensity of your dancing. The harder you swing the Move controler, the higher the intensity reading, which translates to more calories burned. Do note however that you won't burn as many calroies if you only receive an OK rating, so try your best to earn Good or Perfect ones. This trophy is cumulative providing you have your dancer card set up, so just keep pushing through the classes and you should get these trophies eventually.

In this achievement you will have to literally sweat, we set it for 45 minutes. and dance, on average, if you dance 3-4 times a day, then the achievement will be achieved in about 1.5 weeks
