How to unlock the King of Katamari Damacy achievement in Katamari Damacy REROLL - Definitive Guide

EDIT: Since earning this achievement for both Xbox and Windows, I've amended this guide a bit to strongly suggest using my copy of the spreadsheet over the Steam one as I added my own location notes to some of the items that were otherwise listed as "Basically unmissable", "Refer to Vix's guide" or other such vague and unhelpful descriptions.

My amended copy of the sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NwlUJL-P6a8SWfYo5rWi...

A good example of the sort of changes I made would be 6th Step, where the original sheet just said "corona, s. pigeon street", and after finding it myself I expanded it to "corona, south s. pigeon street, acting as fencing near the giant turnip". I also removed a bunch of the patronising and unhelpful "Basically unmissable"/ "mostly unmissable but make sure to grab it tho" and other such silly remarks in the "Best Place to Collect" column, so filtering items based on the stage should be cleaner.

As I'm completely done with the game, I won't be elaborating on any more items myself. I have already changed/amended the existing notes on that sheet with my own notes to the items I struggled to find, while I was getting this achievement on both Xbox and Windows (so I think I covered a good chunk of the more missable items in the game). If you want me to elaborate on any items, feel free to leave a comment, but I don't think there should be much left.

Of course if the spreadsheet owner would like to add my descriptions to the main spreadsheet, let me know so I can change this post back to only include the source sheet with mine acting as backup again.

How to use the sheet
Make your own copy of the spreadsheet first; you won't be able to make any changes to the sheet linked above.

Make a new page on your copy of the sheet, and copy/paste the entire item list there.

With the spreadsheet open, in the game's world selection, walk over to the "Collection" tree, and navigate through to "Locations". Objects in here are categorised by "House", "Town" and "World" which matches the order in the spreadsheet. In your duplicated page, delete any items from the list that you already have collected, keeping the location names for reference (I also suggest adding page numbers for reference if I never get round to it...)

Note that some items have the same name (Bucket, Ladle, Scaffold Support come to mind).

The world record is currently under 5 hours if that's any consolation, and truth be told, with this sheet, it's really not so bad.

My Notes;
I'm going to suggest the most stress-free and spreadsheet-free method of doing this;

  1. Play your first play through normally until you beat the final stage.
  2. After final stage, make the Holy Cow the next thing you get.
  3. After Holy Cow make the Kintaro Bear the next thing you get.
  4. After getting those two awful items, play through all stages again, aiming to get as large as you possibly can, to both unlock the three Eternal stages and to hopefully collect most of the items that exclusively spawn on the second playthrough, and perhaps some presents you might have missed on your first playthrough.
  5. After Playthrough 2, go through all three eternal stages, getting so large that there's next to nothing left to pick up.
  6. Go through the presents you're missing, and get them done (unlocking the achievement relating to all presents - video below)
  7. Only then should you make a copy of the spreadsheet and go through your items to see what you've missed.
Video for the presents (not mine):

Holy Cow and Kintaro Bear
Why target the Holy Cow and Kintaro Bear specifically first, you may ask?

What makes this achievement annoying is less the fact that you're finding every single item and more these items being the absolute worst in any game ever; They involve getting to a fairly large size in levels where you need to avoid specific objects, some of which are tiny/you simply don't see.

I had far more trouble with Holy Cow personally; you will rage, scream and shout as you get bounced around by dumb vehicles or other random nonsense into the tiniest milk carton, cow-skinned cone or a random cow that happens to be floating around on a balloon, and if you have anger management issues I wouldn't be surprised if you throw your controller or even the console out the window from sheer frustration whilst having La La La from little children permanently etched into your brain.

And there's absolutely nothing you can do about it but keep trying! So channel all of that pain, anger and suffering into concentration, take breaks if you feel like it's getting too much since getting stressed does no one any good, and try again after a couple of minutes, because you're an achievement hunter and you've unlocked far more ridiculous, grindy, difficult and annoying achievements in the past!

I found that each of these stages had a certain "route" you can take which has you to size up fairly quickly and hopefully make this a little easier.

- For Holy Cow this video (not mine), can show a faster, though IMO more dangerous route than what I would normally do since they rely on rolling up fences that keep cows in, and a few other risky moves. However this video would do a better job describing a good route than my text would ever do, and after a few goes I was able to roughly mimic it pretty well and get to the Holy Cow with 3-4 mins remaining.

- For Kintaro-Bear You want to get the right size quickly, but not get too large as otherwise the bear will run away from you, forcing you to boost and potentially roll into some dumb bear sign or model hidden somewhere. There's also the floaty stuff, including humans that carry bear signs, but overall you should have an easier time than with Holy Cow since you don't have to get so large. The video below shows a good route to take. Start with the tires to the right of you up to the main road and follow the item trail around until you get to the petrol station. Pick up the petrol station machines then pick up the white barricades to the side and follow the item trail a little further - careful as there's two bear statues in the lower part of this route. Once you reach the pink objects leaning against the wall, go through and to the opposite side of the lake to where the playground is and roll up the objects there until you're around 4 meterish. The aim now to get to just below the bear's roll up size (so, let's say around 4m 50cm) and reach to the right hand side of the tunnel that's nearby, by the tea house and wait for the Kintaro-Bear to come towards you clockwise round the road. As it gets near, smack into it. This will cause the bear to pause/wobble. During this time, you want to quickly roll up the nearby trees and green fencing to take you over the 4m 62cm mark, and then roll the bear up. The only thing you need to be careful of is the bears on balloons here, but with a few tries you should be done with this. A much easier and quicker stage than Holy Cow.

If you've manage to get these two items, and you've gone through the rest of the stages like in my list, your total collection will probably be sitting around 95% or more, which means you only have about 70 items left to pick up! So you'll only have around 5 hours left of collecting, and the rest of the items will be EASY to collect compared to that stupid cow.

This video helped me with some of the ones where the spreadsheet was (originally) too vague, in case there's an item I didn't elaborate on or do a good job at explaining. Click the link to view the video's description for the items specifically covered, as there's only a few.

Good luck!

Images
Edit: Thanks to "Vash 1he Stmpde" who posted this in the comments, below is a collection of the item pictures containing all 1438 items in the collection (although there's 1439 files so I'm not sure what happened?), which should hopefully provide a massive help giving a visual to what you're looking for in the above spreadsheet.

Vash' link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OFbayXrYX9om7r10bx9Evq-6PD8...

My backup link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HInQz_HF7qD6FHgdmO7ny4jKP04...

ALL IN ALL unless you decide to do the presents in Play through 1 or 2, you're looking to do around three play throughs total, with a little bit of backtracking at the end. A play through is around 5 hours assuming no retries. The Cow and Bear will probably take you 1-3 hours between them depending on luck/skill, and the last 5% of items is probably another 5 hours tops. So overall not too long/grindy.

GOOD LUCK

WORD OF WARNING
Something that I didn't see mentioned anywhere else is that SOME ITEMS WILL NOT APPEAR AS COLLECTED IN THE LOCATION SCREEN UNTIL YOU COLLECT OTHER ITEMS FIRST. The first time I experienced this was the Crayon Box; I picked it up specifically 2 or 3 times in Eternal 2 at the Sandbox, but it never 'stuck' in my Location Screen. It turns out that the Crayon Box will only appear there if you've collected all of the crayons first. There may be other examples of this! So if you come across another item that you know you've picked up for sure and just not sticking even though you're certain you've picked it up, come back to it later and make it one of the last things you collect (and screw you Namco for implementing such a dumb system).

Original Guide
Below is a link to a list that was linked in this TA forum by XBL:Johnny Sinister, and was created by some hard workers in a Steam community back when the game released on PC (who are all credited in the spreadsheet and the Steam guide). I had nothing to do with any of these guides and only wanted to point people here towards the right direction when trying to go for this ***** of an achievement.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=17398...

Backup of the Guide Description on the Steam post;

The last achievement in Katamari Damacy REROLL involves picking up one of every item/creature/person/cousin. In order for any pickups to count you have to "successfully" complete a level, that means: getting to the size required for "Make a Star" levels and then quitting, quitting anytime on Eternal levels, or fully finishing constellation levels.

Easiest way to do this is just a google spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13WdWXcJ-UEKn9ZP2S0Q3...

(This first tab emulates the in-game 100% object booklet, so you can line it up and find what you are missing, the second tab is a list for all items you can get level-by-level.)

My recommendation is that you first play through the game normally and simply try your best to grab everything you can notice - then start using this guide to find the few final missing items that are giving you trouble.

Haven't played a Katamari game since the first sequel on PS2. I've just bought myself a Series X, yet it's this game that I'm currently addicted to… well, this and Halo Infinite 🤣

How do you quit and not lose your progress? Do you just click "return to home" on the start menu?

@Seraph Metatron it is mentioned in the guide. "In order for any pickups to count you have to "successfully" complete a level, that means: getting to the size required for "Make a Star" levels and then quitting, quitting anytime on Eternal levels, or fully finishing constellation levels." IIRC, it is Y in the pause menu in the Make a Star levels.

It is the "Y" button. I did read that in the guide. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a different button to click. For example, Polaris you press "X" to let him know when you are done trying to reach 10m. I wanted to make sure I didn't lose collection progress if I quit the wrong way.

Im not understanding this fully. Do you have to collect each object in each level it appears? Or do you just collect every individual item.
For Example: Pedestal (found in Make a Star 4 and Make a Star 3)
Do you have to collect the pedestal in both of those levels or just one?

By Bunny Breakfast on 06 Mar 2022 03:22
@Bunny Breakfast

Look at the spreadsheet - all objects needed will be listed there.

We can't say yes or no to that question because a Pedestal in one level might be different from a Pedestal in another level despite the same name, and therefore have two entries. There are also objects which are commonly found across multiple levels too.

Hence why the spreadsheet shows what each entry is and where to find it to fill it in.

I had no idea what Jungle was or where to find it but here is a video I found so you don't have to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEXdjsN2Nxc
For those who don't like videos, head near the section with the dog bowls and head to the side across from the sand castle and wait for the little creature or whatever to show up. You also get a "You Are Here" sign. There are some things that are not specified on the spreadsheet but it still helps greatly.

Thanks for this guide, made the achievement a (relative) breeze. Spent 2-3 days on Taurus and another 1 on Ursa, but the rest was smooth sailing. Unsure if my memory of BK is faded, but I thought KD was way easier to 100%

The cow level is killing me. Finding the items is not that hard (just a little tedious) but figuring out how to get to 7m without hitting a cow is just brutal.

Okay, the bear level is even worse. All sorts of random things that just want to launch you into a bear. And then the goal runs away from you at breakneck speed.

Appreciate the guide however I find it incredibly frustrating at times as some of the sizes needed are incorrect and locations are very vague. Ex. Diamond Ring says Eternal 2. Where? Eternal 2 is huge. The Calendar was another one I had difficulty finding as the description was "near start" and it was a good length away from the start.

Completely agree with xShoot4WarAmpsx. I appreciate the effort and it's a good guide overall, but there's definitely room for improvement. All of the ones labeled "basically unmissable" were irritating too. Many were very easily missable.

Found the guide very helpful, could have never done it without it, so thank you (and all involved) for it.
That said, if you're reading this thinking about whether you should start this game (and you care for the 100%) my tip would be: don't. This achievement is extremely tedious and I hated every second of it.

Once you learn that certain items despawn when you reach a certain size, it becomes more tolerable, I expect this to be easier the 2nd time because I spent an hour or 2 realizing that clapper boards don't show up when you are a certain size. Also: use the pictures! They help immensely; I didn't realize that there were pictures until I had like around 100 items left and I wasted so much time because I didn't know what I was looking for.

Finally unlocked this one as well. The only trouble was the Kintaro Bear. The comments definitely made it seem like this achievement would be worse than it was. Glad I played it anyway as the game is super weird and fun.

Hello, I have just completed this achievement ( f the kintaro and holy cow!), and I gotten the original google sheet above and added my spin to it (I made sure to credit the original creators).

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/149DVsBflOsT7Lnry5p9P...

I made percentages for each section and subsection, added check box to see how much items you have left remaining ( since the game had glitched a few times, and my counter did not matched with what i got), and added two notes (in red) for 2 objects. Just doing this for visual clarity, not claiming any of the original info as my own. Hope this helps!

As an update to anyone still doing this, I would like to suggest using my copy of the spreadsheet over the Steam one as I've added my own location notes to some of the items that were otherwise listed as "Basically unmissable", or other such vague descriptions. I won't be elaborating on every single item though, just the ones I felt the spreadsheet was too vague on and I either struggled to locate them or felt they could be more descriptive.

Every time you complete a level, your collection is updated with any items that you rolled up in that level that weren’t already in your collection.

You can replay levels any number of times.

Theres a very easy Holy Cow to get at the Hill where normally the ranch is, a little in the back. Its suprisingly easy getting to around 7 meters with the guard rails and wooden fences, a little bit off memorization where the group of cows are and you usually should be fine.

Also i did the mistake on going one missing item after another which takes forever. MUCH faster to make a seperate list with the items you are missing plus which stage they appear on. That makes the whole process much less tedious and easier.

Here is a google docs link that takes you to a downloadable zip file. The download is for a picture of every object in the game so you know what you're looking for. I had no idea what a bundle was in the kids room.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OFbayXrYX9om7r10bx9Evq-6PD8...

Please be careful from what you download from the internet. I downloaded it, but did not scan it. They are all photos, and nothing bad is coming out of it yet.

I'm a little annoyed by the doc, some things are labeled simply "basically unmissable". This annoyed me because several things that I had missed were labeled this way and made it annoying to have to go back and figure out how I missed the items and where to find them

By GalaxyKing#7429 on 29 Sep 2021 07:12
If they're basically unmissable in that level, then you will most likely get them when trying to get other missing items from that level - I wouldn't worry about getting those specifically unless they're the last items you need in that stage (to which I would say, just look around a bit more).

@Vash I've updated my guide to include your link + a backup as well. Thanks for that.

Just in case anyone was unsure how to unlock the eternal levels I found the following information on: https://katamari.fandom.com/wiki/Eternal_Mode#Katamari_Damac...

Eternal 1: Unlocked when reaching 1.3 meters in Make a Star 4
Eternal 2: Unlocked when reaching 25 meters in Make a Star 8
Eternal 3: Unlocked when reaching 800 meters in Make the Moon

Guys, the difficulty of this achievement has been vastly exaggerated. I was able to complete the collection in several hours (for the first completion) the day the game came out with basically no item list available, having to cobble info together from the Internet. Is it a little annoying? Sure. But it’s really not that bad. And the game is delightful.

Almost 500 people have unlocked this achievement. If there were like 20 unlocks, then sure, maybe that might indicate that it’s an absurd chore. But it’s really not that bad.

Just a tip for the Kintaro-Bear: since it only runs away from you when you're big enough to roll over it, you can intentionally leave yourself 1 item under the required size (4m 6cm) so it acts normally. If you overshoot the size, you can collide into walls to drops stuff.

When you're set up, you can move into the Kintaro-Bear while its traveling around, which will likely make you drop stuff and may send you flying (so don't do this near other bears, outside the tunnel is a good place to do this) but will "hold it in place" for a few seconds upon collision. You can then keep touching it once every few seconds to extend the hold time. Pick up your fallen stuff until you're over the size requirement and collect him easily afterwards.

Speaking as someone that couldnt really get roll-dashing to work consistently on demand.

Don't even worry about this trophy until you've finished all of the other trophies.  You will fill most of the collection simply by finishing the game. It is in your interest to unlock Eternal in Make a Star 4, 8 and Moon, to help with item cleanup.  Note that you can reach these requirements before finishing the game but you won't be able to actually play in Eternal mode until you've finished the game.  Eternal allows you to roll as much as you like with no timer, which definitely helps with item collection.

On the home planet, you can look at your collection (the tree) and break down your collection based on in-game location, alphabetical order, object category or object size.  Here you can check to see what you're missing.

Note that during the end credits, you can roll your katamari around the Earth and pick up all of the countries. These are not required for the collection or this trophy.

Katamari on the Web has a listing of all collection items based on location here: LINK  For the more rare items, they've written more precicely how to find them here: LINK
