How to unlock the Let Me Play Among the Stars achievement in Kerbal Space Program - Definitive Guide
VERY EASY GUIDE. WORKED ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT, NO ROCKET CONSTRUCTION REQUIRED.
Start off by loading up a new game in SANDBOX MODE, and in the settings turn atmospheric heating to 0%. Although I'm not sure if it makes a difference for this achievement, it makes doing *anything* simpler.
Go to your Vehicle Assembly Bay and select "Open" in the top right corner and choose Z-MAP Satellite Launch Kit. Proceed to Launch.
Staging
0.5) Throttle to FULL, activate SAS
1) Fire first stage
2) Fire second stage, to allow your rocket to move, and the boosters will fire too
3) When the boosters run out of fuel, decouple them.
Tilt your craft ever so slightly to the right on the nav ball to begin your orbit turn
4) Continue pushing upwards until your "highest point" node hits 100,000m.
5) when the node is high enough, you may cut the throttle and coast until you reach the highest point of your trajectory.
you may want to give yourself a minute or two of buffer time while you sort out your direction before you actually reach the node
6) as you approach the highest point, line yourself up to fire PROGRADE, and ignite at the highest point. your trajectory should now begin to circle the planet until it eventually meets up with itself on the back end of Kerbin.
having SAS activated, simply push one of the red circles next to your nav ball (the PROGRADE) one to get your ship to auto-aim in that direction. You need to be in control of your rocket for SAS to do anything, and it may require a little bit of thrust to get the SAS to move
7) If you run out of fuel, you have another stage / rocket that has more than enough fuel in it to get the trajectory correct. Your "highest point" node on the back side of the planet needs to be about 80-100,000m and i THINK you must decouple the satellite (everything except final stage engine) for the cheev to pop.
The exact conditions for cheevo pop are a bit of a mystery but this method worked for me first try, no rocket building required. Makes the cheev a breeeeze. Also the general rocket-flying techniques in this guide can be applied to many many different missions.
