How to unlock the Thrifty achievement in Killer Instinct Classic - Definitive Guide

The solution by SHMEEDIDDY is very good (he gets a thumbs up from me smile) but I have an alternate strategy that I wanted to post up that is even easier for people who might not be all that good with fighting games.

GAME SETTINGS:
First I would recommend selecting the "Final" (1.5D) version of the game... and when you start make sure you select that instead of choosing the option to continue. This will ensure that the game resets and don't accidentally track any prior losses. Also make sure the game is set to "Very Easy" in the Options.

CHARACTER SELECTION:
For your character I would recommend selecting Eyedol because he has a few cheap and easy to perform moves that destroy just about everyone.

To select Eyedol in version 1.5D first select Cinder, then in the "VS" screen hold right on the d-pad and push QP, QK, FP, MK, MP, FK (with the default controls that would be: X, A, RB, B, Y, RT) keep holding right and after the VS screen you'll hear the game say "Eyedol"... Memorize this code as you will have to re-enter it every time you select your character.

If you didn't get the code right you can have a 2nd controller join in, and select your character again.

FIGHTING STRATEGY:
There are two moves you need to remember with Eyedol:

Club Swing: Charge Back, then Forward+Fierce Punch
This swing will knock jumping opponents out of the air, or knock them back mid special-move, it also reflects projectiles. Most importantly it knocks them back so you can keep your distance.

Triple Fireball: Back + Medium Punch, then once he's stomping his foot push: Down, Forward+Fierce Punch
This will launch a very powerful triple fireball that not only takes of a ton of your opponents health but also knocks them down, allowing you to easily time a repeat attack that hits them as soon as they stand back up.

For most characters the strategy is simple:
Hold back and wait for your opponent to attack once they get close hit them club swing, then start the charge for the triple fire ball and launch that when they start to get up... then repeat the fireball until the round is over and start again.

There are some exceptions... Flugore, Glacius, Spinal and Jago all have strong anti-projectile defenses so for those characters I recommend just holding back to block waiting for an attack and hitting them with the club swing. Also keep in mind the Fulgore, Glacius and Spinal can Teleport behind you. I find it's safe to assume that Fulgore and Spinal will usually go behind you and that Glacius will usually go in front of you. Using just the club swing and blocking is a little harder but just be patient and you'll be fine.

Once you get to Eyedol at the end you'll want to switch characters... because this strategy will no longer work. I'll get to that in a moment.

SAFETY NET:
As stated in the other solutions, if you're going to lose have the 2nd player join in, beat up player 2 then if player 2 does not continue you can go back and restart the fight against the computer.

You MUST have player 2 join in before your health bar goes into "Danger" mode (red and blinking) otherwise they'll be locked out. Because of this I HIGHLY recommend having player 2 join in once you've reached half-life on your 2nd power bar. EVEN if the computer only has a sliver of life left DONT RISK IT, you could get your ass beat and have to start all over again.

Rather than balancing player 2 controller on your leg you can pause the game, then once you unpause there will be a second or two when player 2 can join in but the gameplay will still be frozen. Pausing first is a much safer method than trying to fumble with a 2nd controller so get in the habit of doing that.

Another important note you DO NOT have to pick the same character, if you want to switch characters you can do so. If someone is giving you a hard time, it can't hurt to switch to someone you're more comfortable with and beat them with that other character.

Beating Eyedol:
Once I got to Eyedol I had player 2 join in so I could switch my character to TJ Combo.

Just do this move over and over again:
Charge Back+Down, then Forward+Fierce Kick

I only recommend charging Down+Back as opposed to simply charging Back as it will prevent you from walking backwards away from Eyedol. you really want to not move so that the spacing doesn't change.

9 times of of 10 Eyedol will block but it will still do decent chip damage and he very rarely tries to retaliate... just keep doing the move over and over again. with the right timing you can actually Perfect Eyedol pretty easily with this method.

More important bit:
The Most important thing is to not get too caught up in the fight when you're in danger of losing. This achievement took me many tries simply because too often I neglected to save myself with the player 2 join in method and instead tried to get just that last bit of health away from my opponent only to get caught in a combo and have to start over again.

So... NO MATTER WHAT once you hit half health on the 2nd power bar: pause the game, pick up the 2nd player controller, unpause and have player 2 join in.... no matter what.

Great advice. Gonna try this again soon. Had tried the other method and I would just get frustrated and not push start with the second controller I time late in the ladder. Playing as Eyedol should help, thanks for the code.

This is overall, an amazing solution... Just one question. Why switch to TJ at the end? I whooped Eyedol's ass with Eyedol. The club swing and triple fireball still work like a charm against him. Anyhow, thanks a bunch! Never thought I would pop this achievement. clap

This is a great guide. However they tried to update it. Eyedol even on Very Easy will never take damage the Triple Fireball attack now. Also he will counter the punch from Tj Combo as well, sucks. What you have to do is keep backing up but not too far. Then we will do the jump as long as you are ready it is a free hit before his feet touch the ground.

Hexa Fox, From what I understand Code mystics isn't allowed to change any of the gameplay code, this is supposed to be a perfect port of the arcade version and that means including all of the glitches and exploits that exist in the original arcade release.

The move I'm having you do with TJ Combo is a flying knee, not a punch, are you sure you're performing it properly?

Eyedol vs. Eyedol on very easy, the instant I got a health advantage I held up/back and kept back jumping. Eyedol stood there and did nothing and I won by timeout.

I found this easiest with Riptor. He has a 7 hit combo that does 40% damage if you connect and he's very fast.

Whenever Eyedol gives you an opening, usually after you block one of his attacks, you can unleash the following combo: (Charge) Back, Forward MP, MK, MK, (Charge) Back, Forward FK.

The key to this is you have to be charging up the Back, Forward FK move while you're hitting him with the two MK's. So basically you're moving into the charge up immediately after you finish the charged up headbutt MP move and you start hitting him with the MKs. It sounds hard but its really not. I was able to beat him fairly easily using this method.

Great strategy for Eydol with T. J. I tried for a while using Eyedol and couldn't get lucky once. With only a couple tries I got it with Combo. I followed the walkthrough and this alternate strategy isn't there, so if you struggle beating Eyedol with Eyedol, give this method a shot. Thanks again.

Their are Two way's of completing this Achievement. The Hard way or the Easy way.

Hard way is to select a character that your great with, mine is Cinder easy to use if you know how to use his combos to link up for a Master to King combo. With him after I do those combo's I use Forward, Forward FP when the opponent is in the air, when Cinder uppercuts him up the air, wait 2-2.5 seconds to use the Forward, Forward, FP move.
To star off from the bottom to the top here's a tip I always use and works roughly 80% -100% of the time.
I hold back when againts the enemy and once he gets close enough for a Heavy kick (RT) I hit that and then press, Forward, Forward, Y + Forward, Forward, X + Forward, Forward, Y and usualy does Master all the time. NOW when the enemy is on the ground and about to get up, I hit (RT) heavy kick again and start the process again. This gives you 3 Master Combo's on one life bar. Repeat and recycle again on the second life bar.

So here's a guide to use the character I choose for Cinder againts all the enemies:

CINDER: He usualy does the uppercut kick mostly. For him just try to be defensive and use the combo that suits you. For using Cinder, Hold Back and press (RT) when hes near and continue the Master 3 times and repeat the second life bar.

SABREWULF: He likes to go to the buttom and hit you with light punches on (biting your legs). It's really annoying and is easy at times to come back to againts. Just press Down and hit Heavy kick, it trips him and hopefully you can do a combo when he gets up. For using Cinder, Hold Back and press (RT) when hes near or does spinning claw and continue the Master 3 times and repeat the second life bar, also same way from pressing Down and RT just to get him stopp hitting ur leggs while crouched.

RIPTOR: He likes to do Head Butt and Flying Claw, so have to be defensive as much as possible unless you know how to read him as he attacks. I just usualy hold back and then when hes close fore a Heavy attack then do the Master combo and repeat IF he doenst block, which he usualy do.

TJ COMBO: He likes to do charge attacks and flying knee to star out a combo, Be defensive as well to him when he attacks and wait till you have good range to do the Heavy kick and then do the Master Combo with Cinder.

JAGO: He's some what really easy, likes to do flying kicks to start off to do combos againts you. So once he does a Juping kick, hold back and then hit RT to do a combo to repeat the Master Combo or any type of combo with anyother character.

CHIEF THUNDER: He's some what agressive when he plays defensive when his combos are charge attacks. So at times he crouches alot when he waits to attack you. I just wait when he comes towards you or does a combo as holding back to atack after his combo is done and do the Master combo or wait till he gets up and moves close to you to attack.

GLACIUS: He likes to Teleport and Teleport uppercut againts you. Just wait till he attacks and use your combo againts him. He uses fireball and then later Teleport uppercut afterwards. Just Do Master Combo with Cinder if he attacks first. If he is near the top of the ladder, he attacks quick so be very defensive.

ORCHID: She does fireball and spinning kick with Tiger charge after words, she is really to fight againts when she moves close to you and you charge back and wait for the RT and Combo after.

SPINAL: This one is tricky since he likes to teleport alot and your clueless where's hes going to teleport for a combo towards you. If he is far from you he most likey will teleport infront of you. If he's close and teleports, hes going to the otherside. So be very defensive when you can. He blocks alot as well so at times there's a window to attack. After hes done, with Cinder, he sometimes blocks immediately after you do a Master Combo, but %25-%50 of the time it will work, just when he blocks expect him to do a combo againts you or his fireball or slide attack. He's very tough to fight againts so be defensive as much as possible.

FULGORE: Hes abit easier than Spinal, but does the teleport uppercut and 2-3 fireballs afterwards. I at times just jump and kick him and do a combo afer wards, or at times when he teleports (like spinal does from being far, same side. But close he will teleport behind you) I Heavy kick him and then do a combo and repeat, but usualy at times trys teleport and a combo. His difficulty is not as much as Spinal is though.

EYEDOL: He's a bitch, not going to lie. When I was doing the Ultratech Employee of the month achievement. There's a glitch with Eyedole afer he does a combo againts you and charge's his health. He does NOTHING afterwards so what you need to do is do a combo many times and if your health bar is not touch and he does a combo on you and then charges his health, BUT yours is still greater then him. DO NOTHING and let the timer go out. But if you want to fight him all the way through, just let him walk towards you and do a combo, over and over IF he doenst get you back. Hes tough at times, but if you know what to do againts him then hes simple.

He does charge attacks and uses his hammer alot so be carefull. So just wait and block as much as possible, his weak point to do a combo is when he walks towards you and then attack doing a Heavy kick and with a combo then repeat.

The EASY way, wich will work much faster and might take long, but not frustrating as it seems from the Legit way.
If you have a second controller have that plugged in or have good batteries. But I keep my charged without the battery pack in so it's always connected and on. So just pick your character your great with againts the other fighters. Just play normaly and if you think your going to lose the round. Press the "A" button on the second controller and it prompts the 2nd player to join immediately and doesnt count as a lose and still have your only credit from the begining. Fight the guest controller and then after words, you play the same AI character when you thought you were going to lose againts.
If you think if your going to lose again, just rince and repeat with the second controller and slowly or quickly make your way up.
BUT theres a part of the game when you fight the AI that it won't let you have the guest join the match is when your in the Danger (flashing red) it will lock out the second player saying "please wait" and you will have to start from the beginning again to make your way up.
So use the tips from the Legit way from each AI your playing againts and use this as well to make your way up. Should be simple as it is..trust me it took me while to get this achievement, because I'm confident from matches when I thought I was going to win, but the AI did defeat me and started all over again. So if you think your going to lose againts any of the AI you fight making your way up just press A on the 2nd controller and move up the ladder and be quick about it if your in the second life bar, you can do this trick as much as possible to get the "Thrifty" achievement.

Goodluck! and hope this is easy as possible for you to use!

That's exactly what I did. I had a 56 win streak when I finally finished off eyedol because I was being very conservative. I never lost a match. The only thing I can think of is that I won via time out on eyedol.

I think I figured it out! At one point I accidentally used a credit on the second controller. Maybe this voided the achievement? I'm redoing this to test it out.

That may be, but I dont see that as well bc I defeated Eyedol for the ultratech with just waiting the timmer with each character to get that achievement if I had trouble beating him from just playing normaly I would from certain characters. hmm maybe the 56 win streak might be the problem, I did it in 18-21 I believe something like that....I cannot remember but wasnt higher than that. Try with less win streaks and defeat him.

Well the reports are in... Won again (via timeout) with a 20 win streak and I got it. One thing I noticed that may be a glitch.. When eyedol froze after his stomping move, I was able to chip his life away without making him move again by jumping at him, then holding back and light kick in the air. May not work for anyone but sabrewulf but it made him a real cakewalk if you can get 2-3 decent combos in.

Didn't work for me. I just went all the way through without using another credit (not on the second controller either) and it didn't unlock. Has anyone confirmed that it will unlock if you beat Eyedol with a timeout? Is there a certain version (Final Version or Classic Version) that it is confirmed to work on. I think I did classic, but I'm not sure.

For each win on each character I did a timeout againts him for their ach. to unlock and it did work. I never could beat Eyedol with one credit I always get fucked. Either try again on the final version which I got the achievement or try the second controller.

I am currently doing this achievement right now, easy method. Hope it works, but i was curious.... If you are fighting Eyedol and make second controller come in...
What would happen if i swapped to Glaceus?

Would it count off a credit? Because if you didn't know, on Eyedol you can spam X with him and beat Eyedol. Works 60% of time.

By quatchskywalker on 04 Feb 2014 06:40
It should not effect your credit bc when you have trouble and use the 2nd controller method and beat the 2nd controller for that round, it shows under your character how many wins you have from the previous fights before.

By SHMEEDIDDY on 04 Feb 2014 06:48
Yes it worked HAHAHAA. If you don't wanna fight Eyedol legit, press A on 2nd controller then switch to Glaceous and literally spam the hell out of X. It doesn't work then always, but you will know it will work when he stuck.

Doesn't count off credits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1fP-NJVb_0

Should look like this.
Good tip with Cinder vs Spinal, keep jumping back til he teleports then RB, RT. he combo breaks a ton. Then if he getting too close Jump and press -> -> RB, you will fly over him to give you more space.

Yeah I forgot to mention that as well.. but at times you need to have the advantage of him first though for the health bar so at times it doesn't really work at some parts unless your just going for the character achievement.

Solid enough guide, but your misspelling of the word "against" really irritates me for some reason. Thought it was a typo at first, but multiple uses says otherwise. +1, though.

Hey anyone reading this guide I found a handy glitch playing as Sabrewulf against Eyedol. I noticed often after Eyedol does his health regen he will stand still, even if I had much less health, until you go and attack him. However when I did a crouching RT with Sabrewulf (the bite attack) and walked away straight away he kept standing there. I was able to take down his whole 2nd health bar doing this which is walking up attacking him and walking away 6-8 times. Hopefully this works for anyone who is struggling with Eyedol. I can always beat him but it takes about 10-20 tries, this made it a lot quicker :)

what are you talking about, I JUST DID IT a few hrs ago. Tell me what the steps you did? Bc surely it just worked on me I got it today around 1-3pm today, January 15th, 2014! You are probably doing it wrong. Play like you normaly do on Exra Easy, have the second controller plugged in or turned on, keep it on. Play and make your way up and if you thing you might lose, Press start and then click resume on the second controller and press A again. It takes you to the character selet like the 1st time you want to play KI. win that private match, Hold B for the second controller you remain where you last left off againts the AI your fighting when you thought you were going to lose, rince and repeat if you think your going to lose!

i confirm that the method using a 2nd controler to save when you are losing still works on Feb, 17th,
I made almost everything with Eyedol, but fulgore is easier with Orchid tiger attack and eyedol I used combo strongh knee attack.

People who do not have 2nd controller for this, then it might be a problematic achievement,
but still you can do it.

I got this achievement playins as Orchid, so I think I will share with you.

General tips:
1) Learn "combo A" + "combo B"
Combo A: (charge back), forward, Y, A, A, QCF RB
Most of the combo that I am doing. Quick, fast, a lot of damage.

Combo B: [R](charge back), forward RT, X,X,
and again repeat (Charge back, forward RT, X, X, ... repeat etc)
It is around 20 hit combo. This is the key to beat Eyedole.

2) If you can, beat your opponent fast, finishing with something (example: Ultimate).
Notice that you can finish your oponent once the life bar will be blinking red.
This doesn't work on Eyedole.

3) Oponents;
Most of oponents, it is the same tactic. Combo A x2, simple kick, repeat. Block and wait for the opening to strike.

Except - this metod will not work on Spinal and Fulgore, so you have to worry about them somehow.

- Spinal -
This dude is crazy. He blocks a lot, Combo A or B will not work (but you can try). As I notice it is way better to "jump and strike" tactic like you do not care. It works most of the time. Other tips: block and lookout.

- Fulgore -
Another crazy dude. Try to beat him fast with Combo A. Also notice that you can swipe him (down RT) 4 times so he will be stun. It works most of the time, but only once in the whole fight. So if 1st swipe gets connect, try to hit him with another and another. Other tips: Block and lookout.

- Eyedol -
He is quite easy. Just hit him with Combo B, it connects all the time.
Sometimes he will hit you (combo breaker), but do not worry.

Go back(charge) all the time, and wait for him to get closer.
Good notice:
if Eyedol is on the edge of screen, he will send some fireballs (usually it is like 1, then 3, then again 1), after fireballs, he will JUMP to you, so simply hit him with RB.
Other tips: combo B all the time while fighting Eyedol.

Below a move from youtube - so you can see in action those tactics.
As for Spinal and Fulgore, I can not say it is easy, but for Eyedol - just check it out, he is really easy.
* * * *

Tips for other characters,
as I notice it is the same with every character, you have to find some "2 combos" that will connect and use them for different type of oponents.

TJ Combo for example has:
Combo A: Charge back, forward X, X, X, charge back, forward X, X, X
Combo B: Charge back, forward Y, back A, A, Charge back, forward RB

On Eyedol Combo A will not work, but Combo B connects most of the time.

Good luck with the achievement!

Special Thanks To ZNinjaBagZ For The Helpful Video All Credit Goes To Him https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2YuL6Z6cnZU

Video Description And Details: Published on May 28, 2015, With Eyedol just keep jumping back and Eyedol(CPU) will not attack. When you get the chance use your Triple Fireball. To do the Triple Fireball it's (Back, Y) Once Eyedol starts charging then do (Semi Circle Forward, Fierce Punch). If you land a hit keep jumping back until the time runs out and the achievement should pop.

To become Eyedol you have to choose the Final Version of Killer Instinct. Once you do select Cinder, when you see Cinders mini cut scene use this code during Vs screen and hold Right and put X,A,RB,B,Y,RT, and you should here the announcer say Eyedol.

It's easiest if you have a 2nd joystick. Every time you think that you are about to lose, then press the second joystick . You win. When the time is ticking press to speed up the timer. And try to win the battle again.
