How to unlock the Platinom Nom Nom achievement in Kinect Adventures - Definitive Guide

UPDATE: Exact score requirements added, confirmed by developer.

For this secret achievement, "Platinom Nom Nom", you have to get a platinum medal on every level in Free Play. That means every variation of every game, 42 medals in all (there are six levels of River Rush, nine levels of each of the four other games). Your scores in Adventure Mode don't count, meaning that even if you get a platinum on everything in Adventure Mode, none of them carry over to this mode. So in Adventure Mode, you only need to do well enough to meet the requirements. No need to put in any more effort than that.

Getting this achievement is a pain in the ass. Literally, if you're not a teenager anymore. I don't think I've physically worked harder for any other achievement.

If you have the pre-order DLC, you do NOT need to get a platinum on (or even play) the DLC levels to get this achievement. I know this because I didn't even bother to play the Champion level on Reflex Ridge before getting it.

WolfVelocity's explanation of the achievement requirements was helpful, so I knew I had to get platinum medals on every level in the first place. Now that I have, I can expand on his solution by giving the required scores for each level.

I have personally contacted Good Science Studio, the developer for this game, and have received the EXACT scores required to get platinum medals in all levels. All required scores are multiples of five, with most multiples of ten.

# Indicates a pre-order DLC level.

Hope this helps some of you guys. Here are some basic strategies for getting these scores:

20,000 Leaks:
This game is the easiest by far. Make sure your play space doesn't have any obstructions, or you might have some difficulty getting to some of the leaks on the floor in the corners.

When multiple leaks arise, there are two basic types - ones that you have to plug all at once to advance, and ones that you can plug quickly, one at a time. Assume it's the former unless you know otherwise. If it's the latter, be prepared to move quickly, as new leaks will spring up before you've plugged the old ones if you take too long. Just go fast and be prepared to pick up a leg to plug some of the leaks. In addition to your arms, legs, and head, you can also use your torso to plug leaks. The instructions don't mention that.

When playing with two players, try not to reach over into the other player's side unless the other player is having trouble, your side is leak free, and you are sure you can reach that leak. If you and the other player have a skill disparity, it will be much more difficult to get a platinum medal, as there are several points which require multiple leaks to be plugged on both sides before you can continue on. If one of you is struggling, it will hold you both up for several seconds and cost precious time.

River Rush:
This game is also fairly easy, except for the Misty Mountain level, which required several playthroughs for me. The general strategy is to always take a high path over a low path if you have a choice. If the raft is in mid-air, you can jump it if you haven't already jumped it in the air yet. This tends to make up for the lag. Still, don't automatically jump at the end of every ramp or platform. You might accidentally jump over some Adventure pins that way.

For Misty Mountain, stay in the clouds. The platinum requirement is very hard to get if you don't take the cloud path for the entire level. If you fall off, which you will more than once, it might be faster just to quit and start over.

Getting platinum medals in River Rush with two players is much more difficult. Play by yourself if possible. If you must play with another player, coordinate your side to side movements precisely. Online, this may be near impossible. Also, if you both jump at the top of ramps and when going across gaps, this often makes the raft go too high, causing you to miss Adventure pins and platforms. You can remedy this somewhat by having only one person in charge of jumping. If that person misses a jump, the other person can then jump.

Rallyball:
This game seems to have a lot more luck than the other games, and as such it was the hardest one for me to get platinum medals on. In general, you want to hit the balls as hard as you can. If you don't, they will go slowly and destroy only one block before returning. If you hit hard, the ball will go much faster, have a fiery halo, and destroy multiple blocks. You need to do this as often as possible when there's only a single ball in play. Don't forget to use your legs. If you have multiple balls, worry more about keeping them all in play than hitting them hard. Your rapid flails will hit at least some of them fairly hard.

If you have trouble with getting hard hits on the ball, it might be better in some cases to let it go by you and then use a serve to get a hard hit much more easily. You'll lose a little time, but it may be much less time than if you hit the ball too softly several times in a row.

You don't get a time penalty for waiting to serve at the beginning of a round, so don't serve until you have a good idea of the level and how it moves. Then, try to get an opportunity to strike a target with your serve. The extra balls are absolutely required to finish the later levels quickly and get an all-important time bonus. Peek-A-Boo was probably the most difficult level for me, as its platinum requirement means you not only need to use this strategy, but be perfect with it for three rounds in a row.

If you play with two players, play with one person slightly in front of the other. That way, both of you can cover the entire side-to-side area of the court without bumping into each other too much. In general, though, getting high scores is all about hitting hard and it's difficult to do that without hitting the second player. It's easier alone.

Reflex Ridge:
For the most part, the platinum thresholds in Reflex Ridge are fairly low, with one or two exceptions, so don't feel too bad if you make a few mistakes. Still, you'll want to jump in place to speed up the platform whenever you can, especially on the vertical traveling portions, as a high time bonus at the end is needed for nearly every course.

The pull bars were particularly problematic for me. I can only get them to work 50-75% of the time, and you need them to not only go faster but score a few Adventure pins for each successful pull. Because of this, those courses with a lot of them, like Speedster, were harder for me. Just remember with the pull bars that you have to line up your arms with the handles very precisely, and that you need to pull a little earlier than you think you do to compensate for the Kinect's lag. Pull right when the green lights turn on, if you can.

Getting platinum medals with two players is just like getting them with one player, since you both get the same course and separate pin totals. If you're playing with someone better than you are, you may get credit for a platinum even if you can't do it yourself (though it only counts for you if the second player is local, not online, as all platinum medals must be earned on YOUR Xbox).

Space Pop:
Try to be on top of/next to the bubble shooters as they light up. You can get a lot of bubbles with very little effort that way. Other than that, just move around quickly and try to find "sweet spots" where you can absorb all the bubbles in a pattern without having to fly around too much.

In general, you can float up a lot faster than you can float down, but you have to flap your arms slowly and deliberately. If you flap too quickly it won't be detected, so if you need to fly up fast, don't be too frantic about it.

When trying to float down, don't slam your outstretched arms at your sides too quickly, or the game will interpret it as a flapping motion and make you go even higher. Just gently put your arms at your sides.

When playing with two players, you're stuck on your respective sides but you can reach a little bit into the other player's zone if they're having trouble. This is probably the only game of the bunch that is actually easier with two players, as for the bigger patterns both players usually get a shot at taking out all the bubbles.

This is a brilliant solution. I am just jealous that you got some pre-order bonus levels.

I found most of them very easy. The only two I struggled with were two Rallyball games (Peek-A-Boo and Puzzler). Can't wait to add this to my trophy case. I just need to go through free play on co-op.

Thanks for the kind words everybody, you encouraged me to write this up into a FAQ for all the achievements. Once it's accepted, you can find it over at GameFAQs.

@drabik: I got my Kinect from a store that wasn't offering the pre-order bonus, so I nabbed the DLC code from eBay for $5. The levels probably not worth that, to be honest, but I'm a sucker for avatar crap, so I had to have that helicopter - and it's pretty neat too!

Great guide, just used it to get my cheevo. I'll post back later with any scores I got lower than yours that still got me Platinum in case you want to update.

One thing you might add for Rallyball is that your serve should always try to hit one of the targets that changes the ball into an (A) ball. This kind of ball will give points for every block broken and then, when you hit a multiball target, they will all be (A) balls

River Rush
Bouncing Brook - 132
Cozy Caverns - 161
Fantastic Falls - 135

RallyBall
Treasure Chest - 186

Reflex Ridge
Collector - 318
Cruiser - 304
Dodger - 327
Olympian - 554
Speedster - 466

Also another tip you might add is to set the play are to "Good" rather than "Best". Requires less movements and easier to cover, especially in the Space Pop games

yep, great guide. I just unlocked it and have to say the following. If you have some friends, GRAB them. you will get tired very fast when you are going to attempt the plats alone, especially in Rallye Ball. Some levels are easier to plat when you have a second player and you do not have to move that extreme. All in all, not extremely difficult, but very exhausting achievement. :-)

Great guide.

To get the achievement you have to get or see platinum on YOUR XBOX. This only becomes an issue on Reflex Ridge where you get separate scores. You can do it in Free Play or Online mode, but if it's online and the other person gets a platinum and you don't then it doesn't count for you.

IM CONFUSED - DO ALL FREE PLAY NEED PLATS? OR CAN I GET ONE PLAN AND 2 GOLD IN EACH LEVEL?
0

By NicolaM1985 on 06 Feb 2011 17:34
I thought I made this perfectly clear...

You need platinum medals in EVERY Free Play level. All of them. Gold does not count.
The only exception is if you got the pre-order bonus DLC levels Chomper, Twisters, and Champion. You don't need to get a platinum on or even play those levels.

What is this, middle school? Are you 12? Insulting people isn't a great way to get them to answer your questions. I suppose I'll answer yours anyway, in case anybody else was wondering this.

If the achievement were for getting one platinum on each DIFFICULTY level, instead of all free play variations of every activity, I would've got this achievement the first time I got a platinum medal in Advanced on the last activity I did (Rallyball), and wouldn't have had to play the other Advanced Rallyball levels. I didn't get the achievement then. I had to get platinum medals in every basic, intermediate and advanced variation of all five activities, except for the DLC ones.

Satisfied?

By Guile132 on 12 Mar 2011 18:34
@Guile132: If you had actually read my solution, you would know that the numbers aren't completely accurate. The idea is that if you score at least as high as these numbers you are guaranteed to get platinum. You may still get it if you score lower. Since there's no official list, this is the best I could do without playing each level dozens of times to determine the exact threshold.

If I were to go for the Platinom Nom Nom out of the gate will the achievements stack for lesser medals? So after achieving platinum on all free play game types will I unlock 14K, 18K, and Solid Gold simultaneously?

By L1B3RTYorD34TH on 14 Apr 2011 15:09
Achievements with overlapping requirements do stack, but since 14K, 18K, and Solid Gold are for getting gold or higher in all basic, intermediate and advanced levels respectively, there's no way to get all three of those simultaneously.

However, if your last free play level is advanced, and you get a platinum on your first try, you'll get Shining Advancement (Silver on all Advanced Free Play), Solid Gold (Gold on all Advanced Free Play), and Platinom Nom Nom (Platinum on all Free Play) at the same time, though.

By Evenger Ostro on 13 Sep 2011 14:11
@P4VL0V: I've done it before, you have to go to online play and either pick a friend or tell it to choose a random person. Then you and the other person alternate turns on who chooses the next level. I don't remember the exact steps to follow though. Take a look at the manual?

@Evenger Ostro: Whenever an achievement is earned, all players signed in will receive it regardless of whether or not they were playing at the time. You can get up to three other people an achievement that way. It has to be a brand new achievement though, re-creating the conditions for an achievement you already have won't work.

Darn you "Peek a Boo". I have gotten 149 a couple of times now, and the last time I had a ball flying over my head that I just missed snagging or else I would have had it. I have been trying to go through these systematically, but that Ralleyball level is killing me. I have platinums in each level of the first three activities minus that one. Any suggestions to getting it? I found I was doing a little better when I was serving with my left hand instead of right.

This is the last achievement i needed in the game and it was one of the most satisfying achievement i've gotten. 2 things that helped me get this was 1) taking my time, it took 6 months of trying. 2) having a fiancee who was willing to work with me to get it. We played together to get this as you can just "see one earned". So if I was playing i'd be sure to have her logged in "watching" and vice versa. She was much better at the reflex ridge games and I was much better at the rallyball games.

Peek-a-boo was the last level and it was about 5 or 6 149 scores before I actually cleared it (I got over 160 in the final try) Puzzler was also really difficult.

The trick is on the 3rd round to get one of the "white" ball targets that turns the rally ball white and THEN hitting the target which puts out multiple balls. The white balls give you 1 point for each time u hit it and when you have about 8 coming at you you can flail a bit and hit a few to get the extra points.

Hope this helps!

And you do realize if I knew where you lived, I would find your house and kiss you on--AND IN--the mouth for posting the platinum numbers. I got the courses down, but that was all I personally needed--so I wouldn't have to work my ass off, get the new world record, STILL not get Platinum and wonder just how much better I'd have to do.

THANK YOU.

The leaks, balls and bubbles were fun and easy. The stinky river rush however - I can't even get platinum on the first level, Oh I hate it so much. And the reflex ridge...it's like a boot camp, I'm not fit enough for that many squats and jump in such a short time. Though I may get back to it after a couple of months of pratice in YourShape.

Great solution with the required scores !!
For me the hardest is in Rallyball:
"Treasure Chest 180" and "Peek-A-Boo 150"

m0nk33z asked back in april 16th 2011 if someone gets gold and the other gets platinum, will you get credit for the highest medal if 2 people are playing? i think the answer is no if you are playing co-op as i have everything done except for a few missions in reflex ridge and i kept getting gold and my co-op partner would get platinum but i still did not get the cheevo. i think if you play 2 people from the same xbox at the same house that it might work but i cannot confirm that.

strange that the cheevo says 'Earned a Platinum Medal, or saw one earned, in all Free Play levels'.

can anyone confirm

My understanding is that when one person meets the requirements for any achievement in this game, ALL currently logged in gamertags on the SAME Xbox get that achievement. Online multiplayer doesn't count.

I cannot stress enough the importance of a tip given by DaveHX above--the need to make sure the playing area is GOOD and not BEST made a huge difference for me in Rally Ball. I had always done it in best--alone and later with my brother--could never get the points needed on a few of them. It took one to two tries with the playing area as good instead of best and I knocked them out.

I finally finished this game and here's a tip that may help the out of shape or old people like me.

I'm old and this game put a hurting on my joints and muscles. I didn't have an issue with the cardiovascular level of the game. River Rush and Reflex Ridge were the hardest for me since it required a lot of jumping and moving side to side.

During the game you can hit the xbox guide button to pause the game and take a break. After you're recharged unpause and return to the game.

Wow finally done. The only one that had me ultra pissed was Ralley ball Puzzler: 160. After multiple frustrating trys I got it single player on exactly 160. I definitely recommend getting a partner for these or at least this one. Save the bad language for another game lol.

Great solution! I found them all easy in online COOP apart from 'Reflex Ridge' and '20,000 leaks'

River Rush - 1 person stands still with their arms open whilst the other player does the moving.

Rallyball - Best done in COOP because you can cover more ground. Bird-like moments work the best but you look like a tool laugh

Space Pop - Really easy in COOP. Self explanatory to be honest.

We got platinum on everything in coop apart from 20,000 Leaks. Most of the platinum were earned in less then 5 tries (Mainly Rallyball - Only 2 tough ones)

Thanks a bunch! +1

Peekaboo Rallyball - 100 fucking points between the gold and platinum medals (150 needed). Way to balance that one out.

I found the best way to complete ralleyball was to stand in one position with my legs spread wide and flail my arms while leaning one way or the other. You can easily kneel if the ball is coming towards your feet and this will give a fast ball. It's much easier to stick to one position instead of jumping and running all over.

Rallyball was definitely the most annoying, the rest isn't really that hard. Great Guide!

150 for Peek-A-Boo is mental. Anybody, I mean anybody, have any tips for it? It's my last level for the platinum achievement!

Refer to Forteblast's guide for the Platinum medal cutoffs.

Here are some tips on how to get high scores on the 5 different kinds of activities.

20,000 Leaks:
You can use your arms, legs, head, elbows, hands, thighs, feet and torso to plug up leaks. It helps to get used to how the Kinect tracks your movements. You should make sure you can accurately reach a precise location with a predicted movement.

Reflex Ridge:
Here, getting a high score may require speed, little or no mistakes, and the collection of extra adventure coins. The hardest courses require you to combine all three of these score boosting factors. When you come to the pull bars, pull a little early. Practice on these to get used to the timing. You need to be pulling right when the green lights are on. They save you a few seconds of time for each use. If you play with two players locally, if the other one gets Platinum, then that's counted. This principle doesn't apply online since it has to be on your console.

River Rush:
This is easier to do by yourself since it's more easier to coordinate movements. You can jump in mid-air to gain some extra height. On courses with clouds, you may need to hop onto the clouds to gain more coins. You should do this on Misty Mountain. Grab as many clusters of coins as you can. Go through as many gates as you can, as these give you coins too. If you find yourself going too far to the left or right, go to the other side and then the middle rapidly to stabilize yourself.

Space Pop:
This is easier to do with two players as you don't have to move around as much. If the bubbles on your partner's side come close enough to your side, you can reach them and get them if they miss. To levitate, hold your arms out. To go up, flap your arms. To glide down, place your arms to your sides on your legs. Don't do it too fast as you may end up going upwards if it looks like a flapping motion to the sensor. Sometimes it helps a lot to move next to the bubble dispensing openings when they turn white as you have no risk of missing any bubbles. When Bubbles circulate or roll in an area of the screen stay in that area to collect all of the bubbles.

Rallyball
Make sure you know how to precisely cover a location on the screen. For some levels, this is easier with two players since you can more easily block a larger screen area. With two players it may help to have one player slightly in front of the other so that both can cover the whole screen area for double defense (credits to Forteblast). However, even with two players then it's easy to lose a ball. Hit the ball multipliers to get more balls into the play area. The white and orange ones duplicate one ball into two and the red ones multiply them by larger amounts. Try to hit balls hard when it's needed as this turns them into fiery balls that break multiple blocks. On levels like Peek-a-boo getting a Platinum is very difficult. It helps to do a delay start where you wait until a multiplier shows up and then hit it. You can follow the board movement pattern and then time your serve right. This allows you to immediately get more balls onto the court, allowing you to hit the other multipliers faster and finish the round faster.

The hardest achievement in the game obviously. Remember, if you received Platinum in Adventures Mode, this does not count, you have to do them all in Free Play. While it is a blast to play co-op it doesn't seem to offer any advantages so it's best to attempt this solo. Some games require a lot of jumping and sidestepping so you'll likely get tired. Make sure you are well rested for the more grueling of activities.
