How to unlock the Doing the Splits achievement in Kinect Sports Rivals - Definitive Guide

I used the "Speed Bowl" power up which adds more force when hitting the pins. You have a better chance for the pins to "explode" in each direction and to possibly ricochet off the sides as well.

I just got this using your advice. I would suggest just playing for strikes with straight bowls until you get a split. Don't bother trying to engineer one, you'll go mad. Just have fun and they'll come. I get one practically every game. Save your Speed Ball power up until this happens. Step back, take a deep breath, clear your mind, invoke the speed ball, then go all out for one of the pins. Between the "splash damage" from the power up, and the ricocheting pin, you have a good chance of clearing the other pin(s).

It is maddening trying to get a split, let alone luck out and clear it successfully. I'm ready with the speed ball but man... the splits are pretty few and far between.

Crappazoids. I've tried hours on end to get this achievement in Kinect Sports. I'm assuming the power-ups will make it easier, but it will still be a huge pain

It would help if the game actually gave you a split when you leave a split. I've left the 4 - 5 and and the 4 - 5 - 7, which ARE splits and the game just gave me a regular score. I guess people who know how to score bowling weren't involved in the programming of this game

By definition, a split in bowling is when there the only pins left aren't touching each other, and the 1, 2, and 3 pins are down. Since the 4 and the 5 touch each other, that would not be a spit.

My 3 year old son popped this achievement when I was playing with him. There's an amount of luck involved!! laugh

+1 to Ozzpot's suggestion. Initially I had luck using spin bowls to make splits when I didn't want them, but no such luck when I actually tried to make them. A few games of straight bowling finally got me there.

at first I thought it won't unlock on the sponsor event but I can confirm that this still can be unlocked in that Mumbo sponsor.

A quick google search says that the head pin must be knocked down by the first ball and then leave two or more non adjacent pins standing. I had two non adjacent pins standing but one was the lead pin, I didn't get the achievement.

Finally got this at level 17 in bowling. as far as I can tell you MUST knock down the front pin on your first ball. The split must be at least 2 or more pins that are more than 1 space apart. For example the 5 pin and 10 pin, which is what I got my split on. The 7-10 was a popular attempt that I had that would have counted as well. There must be a clear space in between the pins. I used the speed ball as suggested in this post. I got the opportunity to clear a split about 1-1.5 games or so. I just bowled down the center and once in a while I would get the set up I needed, I was unsuccessful multiple times before I got the achievement (no power up available). This is doable without the power up obviously, just easier. Hope that helps.

Got this today after reading the guide/comments here. I was able to get 3 splits in my first game. Bowl the ball as lightly/slowly as possible and hit the 1 pin straight on and the splits will come. Finally in my second game (4th split) I was able to get the achievement in the second frame even without the speed ball activated. Thanks and +1.

Finally, after spending many hours hunting this achievement for the completion, I got it with a 5-8-10 split, which I don’t think is technically even a split! The five and eight touch so I don’t get how it’s a split, and it seemed way too easy to clear, even without a power up handy.

The really funny thing is that I once cleared a 2-7 (two non-adjacent pins) thinking I had it only to learn it doesn’t count, apparently because you can’t use any of the first three pins, as KinectKid says. I later cleared another 2-7 just for good measure.😠

Personally, I found the slow and down the middle technique to be terrible, almost always resulting in strikes or at most leaving one pin up. I actually started to get slightly better results when I started to go fast down the middle and release the ball high so it flew a considerable ways. This would often yield strikes as well, but if you are struggling with the slow/middle rolls you might want to give that a try, it’s less boring if nothing else.

Any tips on how to get a Split?

You have better chances to see a split if you are bowling straight down the middle in my experiences. Just keep at it and you will see one eventually. Just remember to save your Speed Bowl power up until you see the split so you can use it.

Okay, I would aim for the 2 pin and the 3 pin. Take turns throwing the ball into the sides. I always went straight down the middle and every once in awhile I would get a split. Luck could be a factor. Maybe someone else can respond with a better method.
