Experience is earned every time you complete an event. Each event also has bonus experience awarded for individual accomplishments, IE a spare or a strike in Bowling, tricks in Wake Racing and special shots in Tennis such as lob shots, aces and power shots.
Play the event and gain experience until you reach level ten and the achievement pops. This can be done in story mode, solo events or over Xbox live. It also includes Rival challenges, all played events earn experience towards the sport you played. I was able to gain anywhere from 1/2 a level to over a level for an individual event over Xbox Live so this will take between 15 and 25 events for most people which is 1 1/2 to 4 hours depending on the sport and how good you are at it.
If you work on knocking out all the achievements as well as the storyline for the game you should easily be level ten in every Sport.
Experience is not to be confused with Fans which are also earned for every event but are global, not individual as the sports levels. It appears the opponents level up as well and the money rewards go up in the higher levels.
