For those having an issue with this.
I discovered that you have to actually go into the store section of the game and purchase and item from each sport. This can be either an outfit or gear.
Selecting the store option from your "Locker" before starting a game will not count towards this. I found out the hard way.

Are you sure?, I don't mean to doubt but i just did this and the achievement hasn't popped?

Yes. Make sure you go to the store from the main menu where you pick what sport you want. Then you have to buy something for each sport. Either an outfit or equipment.
