How do you get gold on the later stage levels? Even though I do the moves without mistakes I'm way short on time. The animations from the moves take too long.

There are actually exactly 165 Challenges that you can enter by paying coins cumulatively in the areas that you can unlock with coins, including the starting area. You must get to trainer level 49 or 50 to have them all available.

As for the later Stage challenges, you can perform certain moves in one motion multiple times. For example, if you have to do 3 sitting spins in a row, after your make your pet sit and you begin moving your mouse (or finger?) left and right, to actually perform the move, you can keep on going left and right and you'll notice your pet keep on performing multiple sitting spins in a row in one animation (without stopping and getting up and you having to make it sit again). That is key to passing a few of the coin paid Stage challenges. Also works with Ballerina, Spinning Top, I think, and maybe a few others.
