On the first map, after you play with your cub a bit and teach it tricks, your cub will wander off screen and bring back either a ball or rubber pig. After you learn the basics of throwing it at targets and playing fetch, You will be introduced to your first contest called "Piggy Skittles." This game involves you to take a rubber pig and knock down targets in three rounds.

After the initial adoption, you will find yourself in a forest named Woodland Glade. What you need to do is just play with your animal, teach him tricks, pet him or try out whatever other items you might have. After and during each task, you gain points that fill the Discovery bar located at the top of your screen. Once you get enough points the first contest will unlock and you get prompted to travel there. Say yes and then participate in the event and this will unlock.
