How to unlock the Catographer achievement in Kinectimals - Definitive Guide

You cannot get this achievement before getting the following achievements:
KinectimalsArgh Me HeartyThe Argh Me Hearty achievement in Kinectimals worth 36 pointsDiscover Fort Topaz in your own game.
KinectimalsSpelunkerThe Spelunker achievement in Kinectimals worth 59 pointsDiscover Kokopo Cave in your own game.
KinectimalsBear NecessitiesThe Bear Necessities achievement in Kinectimals worth 105 pointsAchieve at least a bronze medallion for every contest on Mira in your own game.
To be able to get to this achievement, you have to medal each challenge. However, you do not need to get Gold medals in every challenge. Thanks to SMULF for confirming this.

This achievement will pop when you've found the eighth gold piece of 'the golden crescent' shield, as long as you have completed every contest in the main game (thanks to Nuckinn for confirming).

To get to this point, you will have to go through eight different areas (from the main game, AND the two new areas from the Bears DLC). You have to have completed all the contests in each area and have filled the 'discovery' bar for each of the DLC areas to trigger the cutscene which starts this part of the DLC story.
In each area, you'll have to use the Superplunderscope (Which you get given as you play through the DLC) to find a sparkling area, and then dig it up. Before the feline cub/bear cub digs up the chest containing each piece, you'll have to do three activity tests, which, when completed, will allow your feline/bear cub to dig up the chest.
Eight pieces later, achievement unlocked. The last piece will be in the 'Crow's Nest' area of the Bears DLC.

Update:
ZeroDesolation says that the order of places you need to go for the Eight pieces are as follows:
1) La Selva
2) Suri Mountain
3) Celestial Glacier
4) Cherry Blossom Grove
5) Woodland Glade
6) Fiddler's Beach
7) Kokopo Cave
8) Fort Topaz

Update #2:
LausDomini says that if you get the final achievement from the main game, but don't watch the final cutscene, where you unlock the saber-toothed tiger, then you miss the scripted 'save game'. You need to replay the "Snow Smash" challenge in Celestial Glacier, and after some cutscenes, you'll be given the Superplunderscope.

I lost my save from the original game so I am guessing I need to atleast unlock each area again from it to get this?

@Nuckinn Unfortunately, I don't know. When in the main game areas, you play with Bumble & the feline cub you chose, but it's possible that could end up as a default. However, you'll probably have to play the main game again because it says "discover every part of the map..." which would probably involve the contests too.

Once I get to that point I will update this so you can update the post for those who are in the same boat.

So what I had to do is play the whole original game over and beat it. The only contest I played was the last one which was required to get cut scene and super plunderscope. So you have to have found all hidden treasure and beat last contest.

What exactly is it that we have to do here. I got all the 3 achievements that are needed for this one already but this one won't simply unlock as it seems that i may be missing something.

In the regular game I've unlocked every part of the map and got gold medals already in all of the challenges. In the DLC's i've unlocked all maps and got gold medals in all of the challenges as well. what exactly are the gold crescent shields? i've had the bear pull up the treasure chests and everytime i go anywhere it says that you have found all treasure in this area, move on..

also, where can i find the crows nest?

it seems that i still may be missing something.. any help would be great...

Ok. You're right up to the point where you can get the achievement, I believe.

Go to the last area you unlockd in the DLC, and make your discovery bar get completely full. I believe a cutscene should start where you can now hunt for the golden crescent shields. Keep doing this by using the Superplunderscope (you'll get given this automatically), do the tasks/mini-contests that come up when you find a sparkle with the superplunderscope, and after going to the 8th area, and receiving the final golden crescent shield part, the achievement will pop. :) Hope this helps. Post again or send a PM if you're still having problems and I'll load up the game and look for you :)

You are the best! I had to go through the tiger towns again with the superplunderscope and i checked all areas until one of them actually worked. Then I went through the 7 challenges, beat them and went towards getting the last three achievements in this game :) Thank You!

Are you sure you don't have it? You should if you've done all the contests in the DLC.

I would have it under my "Discovery" box right? and what happened was I finished the last territory and when I went to the Glacier level I had to go, I backed out of the game the right way(left hand down) and saved my progress but my cat never had the superplunderscope.

It sounds like your game has glitched then. Sorry :(

Just today I got the core 1k for the game. I know the ratios for the DLC are much lower than most of the achievements for the core 1k, but is this dlc easy compared to the contests in the core 1k?

Yeah the contests on the DLC are much easier for Gold.

Can you update your guide to add a little more info please. It will help clear things up on what to use and where to go.

After you get the achievements needed to go forward please add that you need to use the Superplunderscope on La Selva. Once you find the first gold medal there the game will automatically take you to each section you need to go. The order is Suri Mountain, Celestial Glacier, Cherry Blossom Grove, Woodland Glade, Fiddlers Beach, Kokopo Cave, and then Fort Topaz.

I'd really appreciate it if you'd add that into you description.

@sakic26 - The same thing happened to me. What it is, is that we got the final achievement in the main game but never watched the final cutscene where you unlock the saber tooth tiger then the game saves. Replay the Snow Smash challenge in Celestial Glacier and after some cutscenes the super plunderscope will be available.

I did everything and watched the final cutscene of the main game but have no 'Super Plunderscope'. When I played through the game the first time a year ago I didn't get a 'Super Plunderscope' back then either, despite getting everything all gold and all and watching all cutscenes including the last. It is supposed to be in the Discovery box or what?

@Cringer85 If I remember correctly, you get given the Super Plunderscope when you're playing through the DLC. You don't get it in the main game... I think.

The part with the Superplunderscope. You made it sound like you have to something totally special with the exact following of those areas et al. Where in fact it's just a piece of the bears story progression to get the superplunderscope and it takes you to those places by default without you having to read this and worry about going to the right places when the time comes. that leads to only worrying and confusing the reader, when in fact you only have to play the story. The rest of the solution is spot on though.

It doesn't take you there by default. It asks, and if you decline, there's no way (that I could find) to tell you where you were supposed to be going.

I did it just now. When I found the Superplunderscope, it took me directly back to Lemuria Island and then to one of the places after another, when I used the Superplunderscope, which was always equipped automatically. It just took me to the places one after the other without asking or anything, so it all worked directly just fine. the very last area, where the achievement unlocks, that's the only area where it asks, but by then you are back on the Bear island again and can choose it manually - you know the area, because you haven't been there before and it's the last.

Hm. They must have patched it since I did it then. Well, as long as the game guides you, that's ok :)
