This is done during the quest "Portrait in Red". In order to get this achievement (I did so on Steam PC) - Go to the camp at night when everyone is sleeping, there will be a chest by the campfire next to a few sleeping tents, within it shall be the killers helmet, take this and go back to the painter. Pass a skill check saying you killed them and the achievement will unlock.
