**Highly Missable**
During the ‘Necessary Evil’ main quest, you’ll be sent down in the dungeons in Trosky Castle to interrogate and torture a prisoner for information. During the interrogation we found out that Olda, the son of Semine, was involved. However, it was clear to us that he acted alone. You can get this information out of the prisoner via torture, or if your charisma and speech stats are high enough, by pure persuasion - we managed to do the whole sequence with words alone.
In order to unlock the ‘Silence is Golden’ achievement and stop von Bergow raiding Semine, though, when you report to von Bergow himself, you need to persuade him that “Nobody helped the bandits here.”
Now, this is fairly easy if you didn’t report Olda Semine’s disappearance earlier on when you reported to him after the wedding. However, foolishly, we did, and as a result von Bergow knew that information going into this conversation. That being said, you’re not locked out of this achievement, you just need to get a little creative to get it.
What we did to get this achievement was brew up a batch of Strong Lion Potions (2 Sage boiled for 2 turns, plus 2 x mint, ground up and put into the mix, and then poured into a phial) for a temporary Charisma boost (+7 for 5 minutes).
That, combined with a few perks gave us a massive boost in Charisma and Speech. Those perks being:
- Jack of All Trades - Speech perk (level 10) - +2 bonus to all skill checks.
- Local Hero - Main level perk (level 10) - +2 to all stats in areas with a good reputation.
- Burgher - Main level perk (level 10) - +1 bonus to Strength, Agility, Vitality and Speech in civilised areas.
- Flower Power - Survival perk (level 8) - +2 to Charisma when carrying many herbs.
That meant that going into that conversation we were 30 Charisma, 18 Speech with 22 Persuasion and when we selected “Nobody helped the bandits here,” von Bergow responded with “Why would young Semine leave his own wedding? Moreover right before the ambush?”
That’s when your temporary Charisma boost will come into play as you’ll need to pass a “Very Hard” Persuasion skill check by saying “I must have made a mistake.”
If he takes the bait and you pass the skill check (which we did with the above stats), he’ll say “Hmm… I have never suffered from that, but I have heard such things. That is plausible. Very well.”
If he says that, the ‘Silence is Golden’ achievement will unlock. Phew!
So, just to summarise: firstly, don’t tell von Bergow about young Semine when you first meet him; but if you do, you can still persuade him that they don’t have any relevance to the situation developing at the Nebakov Fortress if your speech and charisma stats are high enough.
