How to unlock the It Didn't Explode! achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - Definitive Guide

The achievement is unlocked the first time you experiment and create an alchemical recipe. This achievement is technically missable because, when and if you reach alchemical skill 10, you learn all recipes and can no longer randomly experiment. Nevertheless, this achievement can be unlocked mere minutes away from the auto-save the game creates for you at the end of the prologue. So, from a practical standpoint, the achievement is unmissable: Load up the autosave, go to Gorhart, and use the solution provided below.

Stand next to any alchemical lab. The first one you find in the game is in the basement of the Golden Age Alchemy shop in Gorhart. Press cn_A to use the alchemical lab. Scroll down to the second option, "Experiment," using cn_down or cn_LSd. Press cn_A to select. Your reagent bag opens up showing all reagents you collected and have in your possession. If your alchemical skill is low, as it will most likely be the first time you use a lab, you can only craft recipes with two components. You can place any two in the lab by first selecting the reagent and then pressing cn_A. When you have two that you like, you can press cn_X to experiment. If the two reagents can successfully combine into a recipe and you have the required quantities, the alchemical lab will automatically determine proportions and inform you of the recipe you discovered. The first time you do this, you unlock the achievement.

If you are unsuccessful, you get a notification that says, "Experiment Failed" and "The reagents failed to create a potion." Contrary to what the achievement title implies, there is no explosion or adverse effect other than wasting one of each of the reagents you used. You simply try again with other reagents until you find a successful combination.

One of many possible solutions: You can pick up Black Cohosh and Embereyes on your way to Gorhart and they can be harvested with an alchemical skill of zero. 2 X Black Cohosh and 1 X Embereyes combine in a recipe for a minor healing potion. Enter the Golden Age Alchemy shop. If you haven't harvested two Black Cohoshes and one Emberyes, buy the quantities you need from the proprietor of the shop. Go to the basement and use the lab. After choosing the experiment option, place a Black Cohosh in one slot and an Embereyes in the other. The order in which you place the reagents does not matter. Once you have done so, press cn_X. The lab will tell you, "Potion Created" and state that it is a minor healing potion. The achievement pops right after that. This is illustrated in the following 30 second video:

Can be done in Gorhart at the Alchemy table. At the table, add random plants together (initially limited to two plants), trying to find a combination that result in a potion. The easiest to make is a minor health potion which is made with Black Cohosh (x2) and Embereyes (x1).

This achievement unlocks by creating a potion without having first learned the recipe. You should get this at the same time you do "Elixir of Fate" or you can check the potions list here and make something else that you don't already know.

If you get your Alchemy skill to 10, you automatically learn every recipe in the game, so be sure to get this before then. You can always respec if you accidentally do that though.
