How to unlock the A Wink and a Smile achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

I found this link to be a lot more helpful than the one provided in the other solution.

http://amalur.wikia.com/wiki/Persuasion_Attempts

I went off the information provided in this link and was easily able to grab the 9 attempts that I was missing after completing the game.

I would also like to add that it appears that this achievement is not cumulative through multiple playthroughs.

I have also found that on my hard playthrough the difficulty had no affect on my persuasion success rate.

I needed about 20 more persuasion successes after the main game and this guide really helped. Thanks for posting this. I liked this guide list much better than the other one.

A persuasion attempt is a speech option that appears on the right hand side of the speech options circle during quest conversations and is green with a percentage next to it in brackets. The higher the percentage is, the more likely you are to succeed.

The persuasion skill effects them the most I believe, but some other skills can effect some as well (disspelling if a curse is involved, detect hidden for some, etc.)

Below is a link to a forum on xbox360achievements that has numerous persuasion check locations. (I didn't copy paste it here because it will likely be updated as more are found)

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35...

According to the comments, it seems that persuasion attempts are easier on a second playthrough. I haven't tried this myself, but it may be worth trying.

**NOTE: I recommend saving before talking to someone that has a persuasion check because once you fail, you can't try again without a reload.**

Also, bribing guards does not count towards this achievement for those wondering.

Are the number of successful persuasions tracked anywhere?

By DrJekl on 21 Feb 2012 00:30
Unfortunately no. I believe, after the main quest, as well as the side quest lines (achievement ones) I needed 15 or so (passing all of the ones in the quest lines)

Played though once on normal and after starting a second playthough on hard, all of the "persuasion" options are suddenly very easy (with no persuasion points) . They are typically 95%. The lowest of the 7-8 I've seen so far is 57% success. Is it possible the devs are rewarding second timers? Anyone else have this?

Reddle Mane the honcho on the top floor of the Adessa Hospitalis Quarters can be persuaded to pay extra if you will do 2 quests from the job board.

Quest 'Tirin's Secret' from the guide will yield 3 total. The shopkeeper, the gate guard and if you talk to the priestess later on you can threaten to expose her to shut her up.

Do all 50 have to be done in the same game or do they stack across multiple playthroughs?

Has it been confirmed if the DLC will add to what you have done in a run through. I have beaten it on hard and don't feel like doing another run through. I'm probably at 46 or 47 with the dead kel DLC. Awaiting the next DLC and hopefully it will pop.

it hasn't necessarily been CONFIRMED, but I don't see why the dlc persuasion attempts wouldn't count towards this.

@HICKMEAT; if you read that thread linked in the solution, it includes a handful of DLC options, and the last couple of threads are by someone who claims to have finally popped the achievement in the Teeth of Naros DLC. His statement was that there are 6 more persuade checks in the newest DLC, so hopefully you can get it.

ok, so they seem to be stackable through second playthroughs... but even if i repeat the same ones?

lets say in my 1st play i persuade a guy in the first town. if i do the same again on my second playthrough does it add up or only count once?

also: what if i make a new character? does it add up or start from zero?

i have this chievo now. while playing normally i was putting points balanced into stuff i like. blacksmithing, persuasion and a few more. half through the game i had persuasion maxxed, getting real high % on my first playthrough and playing on hard. the achievement popped long before i reached the last zone of the game. i put around 100h. into this game, i am a explorer.

I've been counting my persuations and it unlocked at 54. I'm guessing the dispel options at the end of the House of Ballads quests don't count.

^ this. I checked and dispel options on people count as a dispelling, not persuasion (check it for yourself in stats screen after 'dispelling' a person)

If you are using the list attached to this guide, then scan through it first to find the quests that yield multiple attempts. This should be worth more than 15 points!

I'm getting kinda worried. I just pumped 10 hours into my first save on hard and reading the comments above, I see that 95% persuasion attempts are what people get on normal and casual? The past seven I've encountered were all at 95% on hard.

Difficulty looks like it's on hard still. Eh, I guess I can just rush through it a second time if I ended up messing up my hard playthrough.

Not too far into the game in terms of plot even though I have 20+ hours played, so far these checks come up rarely enough .but what I can say is dispell is vital for passing the checks on the House of ballads, on later speech checks at least ther are at least 3 or 4 that need some points in dispell.

Unfortunately I can't say what level is required as once i saw these achievements I pumped points into dispell and persuasion,, I'm at level 14 now and I can't progress then till I hit level 16 but have passed every one I have found so far.

A Persuasion attempt is a speech option that appears on certain characters throughout the game. If you come across one, a Green dialogue option will appear with a percent chance of success. After you make the attempt, the game will flash whether it was successful or a failure within the text box.

As always with other skills, the amount of points you have it the skill increases your chance of success, however other skills occasionally play a role in increasing percentages as well. As the game gives you no indication what-so-ever about who will have a Persuasion check, and once you begin talking you cannot back out with having to pass or fail the check, I will link you to two handy guides.

http://amalur.wikia.com/wiki/Persuasion_Attempts

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35...

These guides will help you identify who in the game you can get Persuasion checks from so you know ahead of time. As always, I recommend saving before each one. I have failed a Persuasion check on a 95% guarantee of success (the highest possible percentage) and also succeeded on a 10% check so be aware the game really does randomly "roll" this one to figure it out.

In conversations with NPCs there will occasionally be options that arise where you can persuade the NPC for items, gold, help, etc. These are highlighted in green text and can be found on the radial wheel, inside of dialogue. There will be a percentage next to it which shows your chance of success. It will be wise to invest points in, and seek out trainers for, Persuasion to maximize the number of outcomes towards this 50. Save often so that you may revert, if need be, to pass all attempts.

A large list of quests that can offer persuasion attempts has been compiled HERE.

***MISSABLE***

When talking to a NPC, sometimes you’ll have the option to persuade someone. These are highlighted in green text, with a percentage of success next to it. You’ll have to succeed in 50 attempts. To make it easier, you can invest in the Persuasion skill to increase your chances. All 50 persuasions have to be done on one save file (character).

If you don't feel like investing many points in the Persuasion skill, you can save before a dialogue and reload your save whenever you fail the persuasion. However, a few points make a big difference. If you've done pretty much every quest in the game and haven't gotten the trophy yet, you'll have to start a new game and find any quest that gives you the option to persuade.

Here's a good list by Vindicator51 over at X360A with quests that contain persuasion options: Persuasion Quests (May contain spoilers).

It's better to start knocking out at the beginning. pump persuation to 3 at the beginning and then try to pump it up to the maximum because in the end it will be very painful to get

To be sure to successfully convince, save in front of that person; if you are not convinced (the inscription will be red), just boot up and try again until you are successfully convinced

I advise you to always have at least three bottles of master persuation with you. Because Saving in front of a character who needs to be convinced does not always help, no matter how much you reload it will always fail.
