How to unlock the Bookworm achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

An easy way to get this achievement is whenever you go into someones house or an Inn, find any bookshelves you can and just READ the books (hitting X twice). This counts as a read and you also can do it with anyone looking and not have to worry about committing a crime. I don't believe that scrolls counts but I am not 100% sure.

Yeah the achievement isn't just for those skill books, cause I don't even think there is 50 of them in the game but, can confirm it is any book what so ever long as you do read it.

^^ Thanks Shagga that put me over the hump as well. I had been using Sepharblue's XX tip since early on so it wasn't news to me but I was happy to see confirmation that it would work. Good advice.

Amorskii: I can't confirm but it popped as soon as I hit X not RB to flip a page. I'm pretty sure you just need to open them.

Actually for me Orwae Nes was in the Luminary Leaf. Just got the achievement to pop from the bookshelves in there and then noticed him. =/

I believe the Luminary Leaf is part of the Merchant Circle. As to enter it u enter a door named Luminary Leaf, but when you save there it says ur in the Merchant Circle.

This popped for me just before level 30 without going out of my way to earn it. You definitely just need to open the book, not read all the pages.

Finally checked out the comments in this guide, made my way to the Luminary Leaf in Rathir, bought all 17 books, and started reading. The achievement popped after I read the first of 17. haha. Guess I was closer than I had thought.

The scrolls counts. I got my achievement by reading one of the many scrolls scattered through the Teeth of Naros

You definitely only need to open the books, I haven't fully read any of them and I got this achievement and scrolls/documents/death notices don't count - I kept every book and scroll I've ever read in my chest at home and they added up to far more than 100, well before I got the achievement.

Along with the vendor in Adessa, there's also Orwae Nes (walking around reading a book) in the Merchant Circle in Rathir - the massive city out to sea on the continent you begin on.
He had 17 unique books when I went to him, couple that with ShaggaDew69's vendor and that leaves very little that you'll have to find by luck. The books range from 500-2500 but by the time you reach Rathir you're likely to have much more gold than you'd need. Cheers for the guides and comments, really helped :)

As an extension of Sepharblue's solution, i found the title of the books DO NOT have to be different, as an example, i read books everywhere i went using Sepharblue's guide, just reading the book while it was still on the bookshelf, but i mustve read at least 12 copies of The Adventure 1, and this seemed to count towards my 50 count.

I didnt try and just open a bookshelf and read the same book 50 times, but i did read the same named books on different bookshelves!

Hope this helps guys, just go and read every book you see, dont worry about the titles.

If I am correct, in Adyssa and Rathir you can find shops which sell books. One I visited had well over 10 books available for purchase. If you know you're close to the achievement (I believe you can check on the Statistics page) simply buy the books, read them until the achievement pops, then revert back to your original save.

(Don't forget to save before you purchase all the books otherwise you'll be stuck with them)

Also, once you've read a book you don't need to hold onto it to continue counting towards the achievement, so if you've already read a book and don't need it for any other purpose, feel free to sell it/junk+destroy it. They take up valuable space otherwise.

Orwae Nes is the Merchant in Rathir and he has a total of 17 books. There are also 4 bookcases in the room holding 1 book each (The 5th has a scroll in it.)

Hes in the shop called "The luminary leaf". His merchant mark is on the "Alchemist specialist" shop but hes in fact next door.

An easy way to obtain a lot of books is to do the Legend of Dead Kel DLC. I would say after 15hrs of play on my character i probably only read between 3-6 books at max. In the whole DLC exploring and looting everything i could see and find, i found nearly 50 books alone in the DLC. There was huge amounts of them everywhere. I got the achievement before i finished the DLC and still found more. Coupled with normal gameplay this achievement shouldn't be a hassle in the long term if you are looting and exploring.

One thing i made sure when reading a book was flip the pages to the end of every book to make sure it counts, just in case.

Good luck!

Books are available all over the world so as long as you're actively seeking to work on this trophy, netting it by the time you hit one of the major cities of Rathir or Adessa shouldn't be too difficult.

A helpful hint if you aren't looking to steal every book you come across in inns and people's houses is simply read the book (without stealing) by hitting Square twice. This will read the book and it will count towards your goal and you will not steal the book or have to worry about not getting caught.

Again, books can be found all over the world within towns and occasionally in Dungeons. Additionally Adessa and Rathir both have large libraries with lots of books to both read and purchase. Scrolls and the like DO NOT count toward this trophy, however reading two different copies of the same book DOES count.

Pick up any book you can. There are many books scattered all over the map. You’ll also obtain quite a few books via quests. You can find your books in your Inventory > Items > Books & Scrolls. You can also enter many houses and buildings and steal books from the book shelves. Instead of stealing, you can also press :square: to inspect them. Press :square: once more to read them. There are also a few merchants that sell many books. You can reload your safe file afterwards if you don’t want to lose any money.

Book merchant locations:
  • Adessa - Arcadium, Arthesa Lille. (16 books)
  • Rathir - Merchant Circle, Orwae Nes. (17 books)

Books can be found on shelves in buildings just about anywhere, look for highlighted bookcases to find books for you to read. You can also hit to inspect the book then again to read it to avoid having to steal it.

If you need a quick cache of books, head to the Luminary Leaf in Rathir. You can purchase 17 books there to read. There are also 9 to be found in the House of Valor (DLC).

almost every house has bookshelves; you don’t have to steal a book, you can read it without leaving the shelf > , so they also count.
