How to unlock the Crime Doesn't Pay achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

Get caught committing a crime, and when guards come up to you select the "Pay fine" option.

If you have a full inventory, and you attempt to steal something a message will pop up saying you can't carry anymore items, and when you press B you will be able to try again and again (obviously with no success) If you are seen doing this, every time you attempt to steal the item, it will count as a new crime and your bounty will go up again. This makes it easy to get this achievement all in one go.

**Note: It makes sense to do this while working on the "A Life of Crime" achievement.**

If for whatever reason you've already gotten the A Life Of Crime achievement, 2 quick counts of murder will net this no problem. Head to a village, switch on aggression mode (attack then press up on the D Pad) and slaughter 2 civilians. Their fine is well over 10,000.

Crime Doesn't Pay - 10g
Spend over 10,000 gold in crime bribes.

Any crimes you commit and then choose the "pay fine" option for will work for this achievement.

HOWEVER, the fastest way to do it is to remove the safety by pressing "Up" on the D-Pad, and then striking a guard. Striking a guard gives you a 988 gold fine to pay. Stealing items and getting caught only gives you around a 300 gold fine. SO, math says you can either strike a guard 11 times, or it would take stealing nearly 40 items. The only benefit to stealing or pickpocketing is that you're clearly rewarded for your crime as well.

I found when I got caught pick pocketing gold it was around 988 each time, level 38 night blade with 6 stealth, I only went after gold so I didn't have to worry about inventory. The places I went to were gorhart and rathir

VERY EASY WAY TO GET THIS ACHIEVEMENT!!!

Go to the large double door to the right of the Inn located in Gorhart. Pick the lock and enter what is actually a jail. Go in and pull the lever that releases the prisoners and you will get hit with a hefty 20,000 gold fine. Done.

Tip: If you want to save your money just save before entering the jail and reload your last save after the chevvo pops. :)

This trophy is best worked on in conjunction with the "A Life Of Crime" trophy as you can work on 2 trophies at one time. Going this route, I found making a separate save (as I was on my "good" playthrough) and just heading into a larger town and pickpocketing everyone netted this trophy in a little over 10 minutes. Didenhill was a good option for me as most people had something to pickpocket but most larger towns are a safe bet. Don't forget to select the "Pay Fine" option each time the guards come for you.

Kingdoms of Amalur: ReckoningA Life of CrimeThe A Life of Crime trophy in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning worth 35 pointsGot caught committing a crime 25 times.

However for those looking for a quicker way on this one, simply murder a few townspeople and when the guards come to collect you, your bounty should be much higher than necessary. Striking (and not killing) a guard is also a pricier bounty over lesser crimes, but according to another guide you will need to do this roughly 11 times before you reach the required amount.

Honestly this achievement isn't too difficult. The way I did it is as follows:

When you first arrive in Adessa as part of the main questline (during the quest Enemies in High Places), you get given a place to stay. Three people send you letters demanding that you meet with them (This will give you a quest called New In Town). If you choose to meet with the guy in the Hospitalis Quarters (known as Reddle Mane) he will give you a new quest known as 'Community Service' and requests that you complete some tasks for the citizens of Adessa.

On the noticeboard, one of the tasks you can take is called 'Shipping Error', and requires you to break into the armory and smash crates. Doing this you're likely to get caught a few times (I was running Finesse-only build and still got caught 3 times trying to work out exactly how to manuevor around the guards). Sometimes the guards here will fine you with a ridiculous charge such as 22,000 gold for breaking and entering. Pay it once and there's your achievement.

(Sounds complicated I know, but it is one of the ways to forward the main story, which means you can do it just to move forward. The whole ordeal actually only takes about 10 minutes if you know what you're doing)

Hope this helps!

Go to a town or village with guards. Go into stealth mode and press  to activate aggressive mode. Kill 1 or 2 NPCs and wait for the guards to arrive (some will attack you but there are always a few guards that want to talk to you. If you kill a guard however, it might take a while before they want to talk to you instead of trying to kill you). Choose to pay your fine. The fine is about 8k per murder.

Instead of murdering people, you can choose to obtain this trophy while going for the A Life of Crime trophy.

A different tactic by F8L Fool:

Remove your weapon and walk up to a guard. Turn on aggression then punch them. Immediately pay the assault fine, then punch them again. Rinse and repeat.

See "A Life of Crime" for more info. Just keep choosing the option to bribe instead of going to jail.

After committing some crime, when the guards catch you, a dialogue appears in which you need to choose “give a bribe.” To get the trophy you need to spend 10,000 coins on bribes. The developed Persuasion skill reduces the amount of payoffs.

Again a quick way. We go into the city. We switch to aggressive mode (upstroke on the crosshairs). We kill a couple of townspeople and attack the guard who came running. Then the amount of the payoff in the dialogue that appears with the guard will be exactly about 10,000 gold. If it wasn't enough, repeat again.

If you do it not in the early stages of the game, but when you already have money, you can simply kill 5-10 guards in one city, teleport to another city, steal from the guard and the trophy is immediately yours. (My fine amount was around 1kkk, so I recommend making a safe before this.)
