How to unlock the Good as New achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide
After you progress to the town of Gorhart, you should have some repair kirs in your inventory from finding then in the world or on corpses. Simply press Start and open up to the items menu, select the repair kits, and use then on an item or weapon that needs repairing. Bam, achievement unlocked.
As noted by a few other people, you can unlock this achievement as soon as you find a repair kit, have it in your inventory, and have a weapon or piece of armor that needs repairing.

Actually, do you not have to progress to the town of Gorhart for this achievement. This achievement can actually be earned in the first dungeon! I didn't realize what I was doing and earned this achievement by accident!
As you continue to make your way forward to the end of the dungeon, somewhere along the way, you'll earn a repair kit and some new items, such as new weapons and armor. When you have been in combat several times or so, I'm sure that your weapons or armor will need fixing. When you arrive at a safe point, like when you meet up with Encel's companions before going off on your own this time, hit up the inventory by pressing start, go to your items, select the repair kit and then use it on any item or weapon that you have that needs fixing. Once that's completed, the achievement should be unlocked right then and there, right after it's completed, the task that is.
Very simple! Have fun and good luck!

It is entirely possible to unlock this trophy as soon as you find a repair kit, have it in your inventory, and have a weapon or piece of armor that needs repairing. I found one in a crate in the Well Of Souls and used it on my Daggers.

This achievement also unlocks if you have something repaired for you by a blacksmith. I spent money in Gorhart to have the smith repair something for me, rather than use up a repair kit, and the achievement popped.
The earliest you can get this achievement is actually inside the tutorial. You can find your repair kits inside the menu: inventory>items>item. Highlight the repair kit with the left analog stick hit the button and highlight the item you wish to repair, then confirm and you're done.
Weapon and armor slowly lose durability when in use. You can see the durability at the top left corner of a weapon or armor, indicated as 50/50 for example. You can repair your weapon either at a blacksmith, or you can use a repair tool which can be found all over the place, or can be bought at a store. You can find the repair tool in your Inventory > Items > Items. Use it and select whatever item you want to repair.
