How to unlock the It is Your Destiny achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

It is Your Destiny - 50g
Unlock a top tier destiny.

Top tier destinies require 109 ability points in a single tree of any of the destinies, or require a careful distribution between 2-3 of the trees.

Warlord - 109 Might
Nightblade - 109 Finesse
Archmage - 109 Sorcery
Blademaster - 55 Might, 55 Finesse
Shadowcaster - 55 Sorcery, 55 Finesse
Champion - 55 Might, 55 Sorcery
Universalist - 37 Might, 37 Sorcery, 37 Finesse

Every level gives you 3 ability points. 109/3= 36.33, so you have to be level 36, probably level 37, to be able to have 109 ability points in any tree, 110 points in any two trees, or 111 points in all three trees.

Don't forget, if you get to level 36/37 and haven't focused on only one tree or haven't done a careful distribution between the trees, just go to a Fateweaver and re-do your destiny tree. Put your points into the destiny of your choice, get your achievement, and then return to the Fateweaver to reset up your tree(s) the way you really want.

*EDIT* 2/15/12_Credit to Emotional REX: Thanks to REX for pointing out that it's probably a good idea to save you're game prior to using the Fateweaver to reset your destiny trees. This will allow you to return to the setup you had prior to doing so, AND will also allow you to save some money. Saving and then fateweaving will also help you to get the achievements for blacksmithing, sagecrafting, alchemy, and the riposte achievements.

*EDIT* 2/15/12_Credit Dream Fiend: Thanks to Dream Fiend for confirming that you have to be level 36 to get this achievement. He was level 35 and had 108 ability points, SO you will have to be level 36 to get this achievement.

*EDIT* 7/22/12_Credit Lunchbox1112 and RunJebus: There are THREE (3) sets of armor available in game that will aid in leveling up. One comes from when you complete the Travelers quest line and awards +10% experience. The other two both come from the House of Valor quest lines, one giving +10% exp and the other +5% exp. Thanks for the tips.

Happy hunting! If you're voting negative please tell me why so I can fix my solution!

It is indeed level 36, as I am level 35 right now and have 108 points total.

Great solution.

I would also suggest to do the faction quests. I was a level 2 or 3 and did only the faction quests and now I am level 22. You gain a lot of experience and equipment along with those faction achievements.

im not sure how dividing 109 by 3 is considered a "solution" to get the achievement but hey, what do i know

Sorry... I also listed every single option for top-tier destinies, the required skill point distribution, the recommendation of using the fatweaver and saving the game so you save money, and confirmed that you do have to be level 36 in order to complete this achievement. Does this guide not tell you how to obtain the achievement? I would say this is more of a solution then the ones where people just tell you to play the story and you will get the achievement.

i didnt vote negatively just so you know, but i just dont see any information here that isnt easily accessible to the user in-game. all the numbers are a few quick analog strokes away with simple division required. obviously multiplying 35 by 3 will only give you 108 so obviously you wont be able to hit 109 at level 35. the saving before you fateweave is more of a tip for the other mentioned achievements, which most people with half a brain can think of for themselves (id hope so anyways). while you dont just repeat the solution (y i didnt vote negatively), there's no real SOLUTION. one of the comments gave a good tip tho in completing all the side quests to gain valuable XP.

To epand on lunchbox1112's comment, there is also two armor pieces with exp bonus from the house of valor (arena) quests. One with 10% and another with 5%. Very quick quest line to do.

I see there's a slight misunderstanding in your latest edit.
The pieces from House of Valor are individual items. A purple hat with 10% to exp, and legs with 5%. Both for finesse.

Since writing the last comment, I've discovered a few more things that can up your exp gain:

-I found a ring at a vendor with +6% to exp. It seems to be a random attribute, though quite rare. It could be worth it to check the higher end vendors now and then.
-You can craft an epic gem with 10% to exp. It goes in chest slot armor.
-So far I've unlocked 3 different twists of fate that give exp bonuses. Total of 12%.

Big negative vote for the solution from me - you shouldn't really write a solution for an achievement that you haven't unlocked yourself.

Especially one that's just a rephrasing of the information available in the game.

As well as saving, changing your features at a Fateweaver, applying what you need to do to get the achievement, then re-loading your previous save instead of spending more money.
Although, by level 20 I'm already in the 300,000 area with gold so money may not be an issue.
I used the save, Fateweave, re-load to get all achievements relating to alchemy, sagecraft and blacksmithing. Then re-load. I will do the same to get the Riposte achievement.

You're going to have to just grind it out, as I'm running into the same problems. The faction related sidequests are going to be the best way to level up, including the DLC released for the game. Completing the faction sidequests should take very little time in the level 30 area as you should be able to fast travel to nearly anywhere, and you should eliminate all enemies very quickly. Due to the experience reward and the ease of completion, factions quests and other side quests should be your best bet. Your other option will be to just kill as many enemies as possible, and for that I'd recommend finding a specific "dungeon" that you enjoy completing or that you can complete quickly, and just doing so over and over again, though this method should take much longer. Just make sure to fateshift as often as possible to increase your exp bonus, and that will possibly make your grind easier, and do so in Alabastra as your enemies will be higher levels. Look for trolls and ogres, and if you clear an area, save and quit the game, and then return in order to reset that area. Quests and grinding... I don't know any tricks outside of that. Like I said, just grind it out, and keep fateshifting whenever you get 4-5 enemies.

The only reason I never unlocked the achievement was because I got tired of doing enough side quests to level up my character to the necessary level to unlock it. Trust me, when I wrote this I had every intention of unlocking it.

But anyways, why should it matter if I've unlocked it or not? At the time I wrote it, there were no other solutions on TA so it probably helped some people out (maybe the 35 positive votes?) in unlocking the achievement.

And it's not really just a rephrasing either - sure you may be able to easily decipher that 109 skill points in a single tree will unlock the achievement for you, but the game doesn't tell you the distribution between the skill tress that you would need to do in case you've put your points in to more than one tree.

Lastly, I've continually updated this solution with additional tips - such as the level requirement, the saving tip, and in game items that will boost XP gain. So, it is more than a rephrasing. If you just don't like rephrasing, I hope you also give negative votes to every single guide that says "Kill/complete X in game Y and you get the achievement - story related, not missable." Those are way more of a rephrasing than what I've done here.

I'm not trying to make you change your vote from negative to positive, but I do think the way you looked at the solution is unfair.

As mentioned you need 109 points to get your last tier. This is obtained through achieving level 36,

This will differ for everyone but i finished the main quest line at around 33 so had some work to do. There is no exact science to this but I can give a little insight to how I did it.

Firstly forget any old quests you have, Waste of time. Concentrate on the last area in albastra (just the camp onwards). Clear all your quests there then move onto what I call the grind point,

You start from cann-rane. kill everything heading towards the house of vengeance. Then clear all the house of vengeance(very few annoying priests in here so its easier to group kill them) There are about 7 rooms full of enemies in here. Use your fate-shift on the last group as there are about 6 overlords. ( i was clocking up 3k a room , 6/7 with fate shift)

When you’re in the last room there is an alchemist bench. Use it to make more fate potions. Don’t bother with XP boosting potions as fate shifting gives you more fate essence which in turn gives you more fate potions.

Then fast travel back to cann-rane , rinse repeat. Took me about 45 minutes for 2 levels.

Hope this helps.

P.S

This was written before the DLC came out.

After playing the DLC i imagine you will hit this naturally.

Have fun

A quick suggestion if you're following this XP boosting method: release the Prismere Trolls found outside the House of Vengeance. There are three in the area, each penned in by its own magical field, and they can be released one by one by pulling the appropriate lever, placed just outside their pen. The trolls give massive XP compared to the other enemies in the area. You could release all three at once and use your Reckoning to double the XP from them - you could theoretically get around 10K for the one battle, if you can kill all three in the time you have.

If you're going for all the achievements in this game, including DLC, it's really hard to imagine you'd need to keep running this over and over. I finished the base 1000GS about halfway between 35 and 36 and I haven't started the DLC. I ran this once just to see how effective it was - after killing the trolls, I barely made it into Vengeance before I leveled.

Old solution on an old game, but adding my two cents.

This solution doesn't work very well for people like me who hurried through the main storyline. The issue is that every area in the game has a level range and will lock when you first enter the area. The House of Vengeance, for example, has a level range of 23-99. If you're level 23 or under when you first get there, the monsters will ALWAYS be level 23. If you're 24 or higher, the monsters will be whatever level you were the first time you entered the house of vengeance. So in my case, as I'm getting into my 30s, the enemies are ten levels behind me and are giving very little exp.

An alternative place to grind is Prismordia, the cave right near the start of Alabastra. Its minimum level is 35, so no matter when you first stopped by it's always good for grinding.

For those still playing this game:

Do not worry about grinding until you have completed all the other achievements. After beating the game on hard, switching to easy and cleaning up all the other achievements (while killing most enemies and using reckoning frequently) I ended up at level 32. I had 2 rings with 6% experience boost (generic ones found through playing), as well as some twists of fate that also boosted experience. I used a gem slotted into my armor for 8% experience, the the Sorrows set will give you 10% boost for the set.

For getting up to 36, I found the following method to be quite efficient:

1. Craft as many Master Experience/Greater Experience potions as you can

2. Re-fate yourself into sorcery, with emphasis on Smolder, Meteor, Chain Lightning and Tempest.

3. Go to Ysa and pray at the 6 shrines

4. Go to Primordia in the northern part of High Fulgen in Alabastra

5. Go to the room in the back right which has several Murghans and Banshaens

6. Group them up and perform reckoning, then a meteor. Clean up what is left. You may also have time to go around the corner and kill the sprites.

7. Pop an experience potion

8. Finish reckoning to double XP.

9. Clear out the rest of the dungeon while potion and shrine is still effective. This should get your reckoning meter back to full.

10. Rest somewhere for 2 days to respawn enemies.

11. Repeat steps 3 to 11.

This is the method I found to be the quickest and most reliable. Clearing the room with reckoning was netting be about 30k exp a run, plus around 8-10k extra for clearing the rest.

Thanks to Peaches 518 for the inspiration.

A top tier destiny is a Tier 6 destiny, which requires 109 points in 1 of the 3 ability trees, 55 in 2 of the 3 ability trees or 37 in all 3. The soonest you can unlock one of these is at level 36.
  • Might: ‘Warlord’ - 109 Might.
  • Finesse: ‘Nightblade’ - 109 Finesse.
  • Sorcery: ‘Archmage’ - 109 Sorcery.
  • Might-Sorcery: ‘Champion’ - 55 Might/Sorcery.
  • Might-Finesse: ‘Blademaster’ - 55 Might/Finesse.
  • Finesse-Sorcery: ‘Shadowcaster’ - 55 Finesse/Sorcery.
  • Might-Finesse-Sorcery: ‘Universalist’ - 37 Might/Finesse/Sorcery.

If you’re playing as a different destiny class, make a new save file of your current character. Go see a Fate Weaver, reset your destiny and reassign your ability points. Once you’ve obtained the trophy, reload your save.

You can get this trophy only at level 36, after which you need to “pump in” 109 points into only one skill branch, after which you will receive a level 6 fate card.

You can redistribute your skills from Agarth, who, after completing the main storyline, is located in the city of Rathir, you need to go up to The Upper City, where your Orbocant villa will be.

Advice for those who don't have the DLC. After going through everything you need to , may not have enough experience to gain 1-2 levels (35 and 36). It takes quite a long time to collect the remaining quests around the world, and the efficiency of gaining experience per unit of time is not very attractive. It’s easier to go to the southeastern location (Shadow pass) and take out everything that moves there, looking into the local dungeons along the way, of course (there are at least five of them). The desired level 36 will come up quite quickly and, if you have previously thrown all the skill-points into only one talent tree, immediately after Levelup take the last (6th) card of fate and ready.
