How to unlock the Message in a Bottle achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

Looks like a wine bottle lying down in the ground. No loot sparkle.

1) In the starting area, along the edge (return via the Flooded Cavern if you missed it)
2) Outside near Souldeep Fasting (east)
3) In front of the Tidal Pools. Can jump down from the ledge on the gallows.
4) Northeastern part of Scuttle Beach
5) Near Aubrey Gilcrest on the other side of the river
6) The end of Mudhold Fasting
7) The end of Undersea Fasting
8) Near the entrance to Brigand's Hideaway

If you have a dousing rod (pre-order bonus from Amazon) they show up as a reagent on your map.

It's worth saying you can only get to Brigand's Hideaway after you've completed the main quest arc. You must then get the quest called The Invaders. Then you can get to Brigand's Hideaway.

I'd like to add, that if you're trying to find 'em with the drowsing rod as mentioned above, the bottles will NOT show on the mini map. They'll only show as reagents on the main map (when you hit BACK)

At least you can see what you're missing with this ach. Check inventory and then use this list. Thanks vitaminamy.

Very helpful! Especially that map which is awesome. Found a few bottles by myself but wouldn't have stood a chance with the hand.

If you want a visual here a great map from IGN for the bottles and lore stones.

To elaborate on the first solution and to add a little more clarity I have added a video with all the credit going to Mr.Vuul, who I may add, has some pretty good videos that may help with other achievements related to KOA. It is to be noted, that in order to get the 8th bottle you must finish the main quest and start the "Intruders" side quest.
Happy hunting.

The eight bottles can be found in the following locations:

  1. As soon as you wash up on the island, on the right side of the beach.
  2. To the left of the entrance to Souldeep Fasting.
  3. At the bottom of the ramp leading to Tidal Pools. You need to jump from the platform the gallows are on in Cape Solace to reach this area.
  4. In the "middle finger" of the northern shore of Scuttle Beach.
  5. Directly across the river from Aubrey Gilcrest.
  6. In the "outdoor" section of Mudhold Fasting, where the woman for the side-quest is located.
  7. In the "outdoor" section of Undersea Fasting, the very farthest point of the dungeon.
  8. Just outside the entrance to Brigand's Hideaway. You must start the side-quest "The Exiles" after completing the main quest to access this area.

The bottles do not show up on your map (unless you have the Dowsing Rod pre-order item), nor do they have any type of "glow" like normal lootable objects. The achievement will unlock as soon as you hit to take the eighth bottle.

These bottles are pretty easy to miss. You’ll see a ‘Pick Up Message in a Bottle’ in the bottom right corner of the screen when you’re close. These 8 are scattered throughout the whole bottom part of the island. One of the bottles can only be collected after completing the Main quest line.

These locations are written down as seen on the local world map.
  • Bottle #1 - The beach you wash up on. In the top left corner, near a chest.
  • Bottle #2 - Jump down at the gallows in Cape Sollace. It’s located where you reach dry ground.
  • Bottle #3 - Close to Souldeep Fasting, bottom right near the shipwreck parts.
  • Bottle #4 - East from Cliffbreak Fasting, near one of the shipwreck parts.
  • Bottle #5 - West from Aubrey Gilcrest, on the other side of the cliff.
  • Bottle #6 - In the Mudhold Fasting dungeon. Reach the outer part, end of the dungeon. Close to the grass.
  • Bottle #7 - In the Undersea Fasting dungeon. Reach the outer part, very end of the dungeon. Close to a torch.
  • Bottle #8 - Close to Brigand’s Hideaway, bottom right near the cliff.
    • Before you can collect bottle #8, you’ll need to finish the Main quest line and start the ‘The Invaders’ side quest afterwards by talking to Alder Malloi in Cape Sollace.

the last bottle will be available after completing the main story of the DLC. You need to take the quest “The Invaders” and the location will become available, info on the quest “ The Invaders ”.

I encountered a bug with this trophy (I wrote it on the forum). When opening the fourth bottle they gave me a third letter. As a result, there are two third letters and no fourth. The trophy didn't drop. When you take the bottles, save and check the letter.

Patch 1.11 bug was most likely fixed, because... I collected the bottles out of order, and when picking up the bottles everything was fine.
