How to unlock the Riposte! achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

Once you have 50 points into the might skill tree you can unlock the riposte ability (Brutal Weaponry IV) for longswords, greatswords, and hammers.(Left hand side, 4 up)

If you have 50 points in the finesse skill tree you can unlock Punishment (Precise Weaponry IV) in it for a "from parry" attack for daggers that works towards this achievement.

To use these abilities do a timed parry (use the shield/block button just before an enemy's attack hits you) and attack directly after it hits. (I just spammed x during the parry)

The full 3 hit combo doesn't have to land, when I got it I only landed the full combo a couple of times.

I popped this achievement in Castle Yolvan (Northwest in the Webwood territory) as there are many giant rats and venomspitters which are easy to parry against because they get into an attack stance, and jump at you making it easier to know when to block.

**Alternatively the Universalist destiny will unlock all weapon mastery abilities including the ones needed for this achievement.
Thanks to 'Rei Anime Geek' for this.**

Just as a note...if you are not using a "warrior" you can do what I am and just use your points in finesse or magic until you have more than 50, at which time I will be saving my game, re-spec'ing to be pure warrior, and knocking this achv out. I have a nice balance going, ad am not going to mess it up for one achv!!

So you have to have at least 50 in one of those skill trees before you can do it?

Yes, as that is when that tier of abilities unlocks.

You also have to have the abilities directly beneath them unlocked, but if you have 50 in that skill tree, you'll have likely unlocked them already.

I got this by saving and respecing at a faeweaver once I had enough points.

Just a tip to speed up the actual achievement..... do it on humanoid enemies as they attack with weapons so are easier to time and parry.

I got this achievement with only 40 invested... I'm guessing it was the Universalist. Another creature that is easy to parry against is a barghest or wolves are even easier. That's how I did it.

Slightly off topic but the combat system would have really benefited from some of the more advanced combat moved being unlocked from the beginning in my view. Almost all you can do for the first few levels is spam X to win - and that applies to Hard mode too.

If you don't want to invest 50 skill points in 1 area you can unlock the Universalist destiny (http://amalur.wikia.com/wiki/Destinies#Universalist) which then unlocks all weapon mastery abilities.

Once you unlocks all weapon mastery abilities you'll be able to land the special attack after parry with almost every weapon type!

The Riposte skill will require 50 points spent in one of either the Might or Finesse class specializations to unlock the final Weaponry focus, which will unlock the after-parry attack for the specified weapons. It is the leftmost tree in each of those classes. Note that the Sorcery tree does not have an after-parry special attack! Alternatively, you can put 37 points into each of the three trees to unlock the "Mastery of Arms" perk which will give you every available weapon ability.

To perform the special attack, follow the method to parry found in the "Foiled Again!" achievement, then simply use a basic attack with whichever Weaponry focus you've obtained during the "slow-mo" time after the successful parry.

The only weapons with which you can perform a special attack out of a parry are the Longswords, Greatswords, Hammers, Daggers and Faeblades. In order to unlock these moves, you’ll have to either unlock Brutal Weaponry IV or Precise Weaponry IV. Longswords, Greatswords and Hammers require a total of 50 points in the Might tree and at least 1 point in the previous levels of Brutal Weaponry. You need to be at least level 17. Daggers and Faeblades require a total of 50 points in the Finesse tree and at least 1 point in the previous levels of Precise Weaponry. You need to be at least level 17. Once you’ve unlocked Precise or Brutal Weaponry IV, go find yourself some enemies. Wait for them to attack and press :l1: to block. If you time it right, you’ll parry them. Quickly attack afterwards for a Special attack. You can check the Moves list in the menu to check which attacks you’ve unlocked and how to perform them.

Fist icon: Attack by pressing :square: or :triangle: once.
Pause (||) icon: Brief pause.
Shield icon: Parry by holding or pressing :l1:.

If you’re playing as a different destiny, make a new save file of your current character. Go see a Fate Weaver and reset your destiny. Once you’ve obtained the trophy, reload your save.

To parry, you need to get the maximum weapon skill (in each branch the left column is responsible for weapons, you need to learn the top skill in it). Then, when attacking the enemy, we press block in time and immediately strike with the corresponding weapon, the animation is different than with a normal strike. We do this 25 times and the trophy is ready. The easiest way is to fend off spiders; they are quite slow.

The trophy cannot be obtained by playing a pure sorcerer. To get the trophy you will have to redistribute your abilities to a warrior or a robber.

We are talking about the maximally pumped talent Rough Technique IV (top left in strength)
At the moment the enemy hits, press (block with a shield), while time slows down for a fraction of a second. Immediately spam the weapon strike button.
If everything is done correctly, the player will perform a special attack. Visually it can be seen in the menu in Techniques. For a sword, this is "Retaliation: Parry". Hammer: Crushing Strike: Parry

I’ll also add that there is an alternative option for leveling up the left columns of skills - the Universalist fate card. It opens all Weaponary attacks with a maximum level (3) + gives a bunch of other good bonuses (for example, +3 to all skills, which is very cool). To get it, you need to have 37 points for each class.
