How to unlock the Romancing the Gem achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

To be able to craft an Epic Gem, you must have 8 skill points in Sagecraft. To be able to put 8 points into any skill, you must be level 16. Once you are, just go to any Sagecraft station and create an epic gem. Pretty much any combination of shards should work. The achievement unlocks once you craft the Epic Gem.

This has nothing to do with the achievement itself, but the name is a reference to the 1984 romantic comedy Romancing the Stone, which has a plot that revolves around a large emerald.

To be able to craft an Epic Gem, first you need to be Level 16 so you can put 8 points into your Sagecrafting Skill (you need to be Level 16 to unlock the last tier of your skill abilities).

Once you have placed 8 skill points into Sagecrafting you will unlock the ability to create Epic Gems at Sagecrafting altars. Head to one and just start combining pristine shards, nearly every combination imaginable works and creates some type of gem (I personally always create one Gem of the Assiduous by combining a Protection Shard with either a Fire, Ice, or Lightning Shard). Once the gem is crafted, the trophy will unlock.

Keep in mind you can always use a Fateweaver to reset your skills and stats (for a price), put points into this ability, net the trophy, then restore your abilities at a Fateweaver once more.

You will need to be at least a level 8 Sagecrafter and at a minimum level of 16 to craft an epic gem. Simply add shards you've made or found to create a combination that will make an epic gem at an altar. You can see what the output will be before confirming, so don't worry about trying different combinations.

Crafting an Epic Gem requires a Sagecraft skill level of 8. Which also requires your character level to be at least Level 16. In order to craft an Epic gem, you’ll first need 2 Pristine shards. You can either find them, buy them, or craft them (see the Diamond in the Rough trophy). Find a Sagecraft Altar, choose to Craft Gems > Epic Gems. Select 2 Pristine shards to your liking and craft an Epic Gem.
