How to unlock the The Great Detective achievement in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - Definitive Guide

To be able to detect hidden things, you have to have at least two points in the Detect Hidden stat. You only get one point when you level up, so it'll take at least 2 levels to get the ability, unless your race starts with a point.

Once you've got the ability, hidden things will show up on your mini-map as treasure chest icons. As you approach them, your controller will vibrate and the item will glow. They're typically things like wells, piles of rocks or tree branches. Once they've been found, search them. You can take as many of the items as you want that are held within, but you have to at least search them for them to count toward the achievement.

These are scattered all around the world, so as you complete quests, you'll eventually come across 25.

I got it without that. You only need two points, there are ALOT of hidden items in logs and piles of rocks and whatnot.

This trophy is awarded for finding 25 hidden "objects" in the land of Amalur. To be able to see these objects you need at least 2 points in the "Detect Hidden" skill. Starting as a Varani will give you a point automatically in this skill making it possible to start seeing objects very early in the game.

Once you have 2 points in this skill, hidden objects will appear as a small chest icon on your minimap. These usually appear as a pile of rocks, tree branches etc in the real world and your controller will vibrate when you get close to them. An object counts towards the trophy once you are close enough to it that a prompt appears onscreen and the object glows brightly. From here you can loot the object if you wish but it is not necessary. Find 25 in this manner and you've got yourself a shiny new trophy.

Keep in mind you can always use a Fateweaver to reset your skills and stats (for a price), put points into this ability, net the trophy, then restore your abilities at a Fateweaver once more.

Detect Hidden is a skill that will allow you to see hidden rooms and places where you can find unique and helpful goodies to help you in the adventure (logs, rock piles, wells, etc). Take a few points in this early on and you will have this after a little bit of natural exploring - loot spots will show as orange dots on your mini-map. Maxing this skill will also help with "Loremaster" as the Lorestones will show up on the map as well.

Hidden things refer to either hidden 'containers' (Hollow Logs and Piles of Rocks) or hidden doors. To be able to detect and loot hidden chests, you’ll need a Detect hidden skill level of 2 for chests, or level 6 to see hidden doors. This will show hidden chests and/or doors on the mini map. If you discover something hidden, the game will notify you if you do so. You don’t have to actually loot the chests.

Among the “perk” (when you get level up, you are first asked to invest 1 point in “perk”, then 3 points in “skills”, then choose Fate) there is the detect hide skill. If you level up this skill, large brown circles begin to appear on the minimap; these are hiding places. Caches are located along the edges of locations or in corridors between “areas”. Hiding places consist of a lying log or a pile of stones. When you come close, the cache begins to glow and you can take loot from it. Find 25 caches and the trophy is yours.

In addition, you need to take everything that is in the cache. If you didn’t take it, then it won’t be counted.

To check how many have been discovered and how many are left until 25, go to the menu - status-stats.
