How to unlock the Ridiculously Awesome achievement in Kung Fu Panda 2 - Definitive Guide
The easiest place I found to collect these pieces of metal is on the rickshaw challenges. Finish story mode to make sure you unlock all the challenges available. Then go into 'Free Play' mode and find a rickshaw challenge. There should be 4 or 5 to choose from. There are three (3) difficulties to choose from:
Easy - Iron pieces
Medium - Steel pieces
Hard - Gold pieces
Choose your favorite (or easiest) rickshaw challenge and go to town. The pieces that glow on the ground are the pieces of iron, steel, and/or gold. Pick those up, finish the challenge, rinse and repeat.
This is the same solution for:
Good Luck!

I found that after completing the story and working on gold medals for each challenge at each difficulty this amount of steel came naturally long before I finished them, so I wouldn't worry too much about grinding it out

These Steel pieces can be achieved during story mode but you will gain the majority playing through Free Play. You will earn a lot of iron on the 'Medium' setting on the 'Target Practice', 'Noodle Challnge" and 'Rickshaw Dodge/Chase' challenges within Free Play. You will more than likely get these naturally while going for all gold medals, but if you need a few more, you know where to go!
