How to unlock the Auto Fanatic achievement in L.A. Noire - Definitive Guide
First off, during the campaign, any parking lots or vacant vehicles you find, enter them to see if you have not yet driven that specific one. Trust me on this that a lot of the cars in this game look the same, so it's better to be safe than sorry and just enter any car you see. If you do this throughout the campaign, you will have a vast majority of vehicles driven. I had around 68 when I started to clean up.
Secondly, find all 15 of the hidden vehicles, which are marked by question marks on the map. The question marks will start to pop up every few levels (tied to correctly branching questions) that you reach throughout the campaign with level five unlocking the first 5 marks, level 10 the second set of 5 marks, and level 15 the third and final set of question marks.
Now we reach the clean up part. I am going to add a few links here that will help you considerably in your search. Something some of you may not know is that in the main menu of the game, below cases, is the extras menu which contains a vehicle showroom. Any car you are missing will be shadowed out.
Those two links within the spoilers is exactly what I used to get this achievement. Along with the links, I used a method created by Epic Awesomeness from the X360A community and LegendaryMarvel, who made a solution for this back on the 360 version of the game. This method is all thanks to them and involves
Vehicles such as Packard Custom required me to use the "Hot Property" street crime in the Arson desk and Buick Custom required me to use "The Set Up" case in the vice desk. Once again, I highly recommend you use the wiki as it gives an info on any car you may need to do a specific requirement for. I hope that this guide helps everybody and if you feel like I am missing any helpful tip, let me know in the comments.
The easiest way for me was to memorize what the front grill looked like on the vehicle and search for that. Good luck!

My Tip: Before you load up the free roam, get the car you're going for next selected in the show room! I got my last 10 cars like this 100% of the time, and most of them, 7/8 out of 10 were just driving right by me as soon as I spawn in without even needing to drive to the specific location!
My first "guide", let me know if it can improve it!
First of all you need to ignore the solution saying you can get this car in The Gas Man case. The car simply won't spawn. I've read that they replacet the car with InstaHeat car.
All you need to do is play the Street Case Hot Property. Drive after fleeing suspect but DON'T TRY TO STOP HIM and ignore Packard Customs ( If you are aiming for 100% completion you need this car saved in your gallery). The one you MUST get is behind the truck the suspect will crash at the end of the chase.
Below is a video about how to make cars spawn (I obviously don't take credit for the video.
Text Description: go to vehicle showroom (in extras) and go to the car you are missing. Stay highlighted over that vehicle then back out to main menu. Go to free roam (any desk case should be fine) and the car should spawn right near you
There are a total of 95 cars for you to collect in the game. You do not need to drive any of the cars, all you have to do is get behind the drivers sit for one second. If you don't know which cars you are missing you can go to the main menu and then scroll down 2 times and hit to go into the extras menu, from there choose the Vehicle Showroom to see which cars you don't have yet. Cars that you can see are cars you have driven and cars that are faded out are cars you haven't driven yet. Here is a link to the locations of each vehicle thanks to KryptoniteDragon: LINK
These are the 15 hidden vehicles that are in the game and are marked as a question Marks (?) on the map when you press . The question marks (?) show up when you reach ranks 5, 10 and 15. Showing up 5 at a time. Thanks to VidGamiacUnlocked for the video.
There's a total of 95 vehicles in L.A Noire:
- 2-Door: 25 Cars
- 4-Door: 19 Cars
- Sports: 8 Cars
- Service: 19 Cars
- Police: 9 Cars
- Special: 15 Cars
You'll have to search high and low for most of the cars but over 80% of them are on the streets driving about, so you'll most likely pass them on your journey. All you need to do is jump in and let Cole start the engine. Once that's done, a message letting you know it's a new car will pop up on the left side of the screen! If no message pops up, you've already unlocked it.
Out of the 95 cars, 15 of them are special unlocks that become available as you progress through the game and level up. To find these, locate the '?' on your map and drive to it's location. Once there, look for a garage with the 'City of Angels' logo on it and an entrance door. Simply walk in, and the garage will open and the car will be inside.

Go to the Extras menu, then to Vehicle Showroom, then scroll to the car that you don’t have, click , then exit (twice ). Go to Cases, select Homicide Desk, and then Free Roam.
There will be an intersection in front of you, drive up to it and look for the car you need, in 90% of cases it passes, if you don’t see one, then to the left of the place where you appeared there will be a parking lot, look there. If it’s not there, then repeat the procedure described above, but this didn’t happen to me.

The method works with 2 and 4 door cars, sports cars, and most service cars.
Also, if the desired car appears only in the Wilshire or Hollywood areas, then you can perform this trick in the arson department and the morality department, respectively.
The trophy is indeed very serious, I will describe my vision of how best to get it:
1) You need to keep it in mind when starting to play the game. Familiarize yourself with the list above (in Russian - it is much more informative) and somehow make a special note (or write out) cars that appear only in cases. And as you go through the game, you will immediately find these cars in your files.
*PS I made a mistake on this, because of the “1946 International KB5” truck I had to replay “Divine Predestination” until the episode with the sniper for the second time...
2) Most of the cars on the list just drive around the city and sit in parking lots. So from the beginning of the game we drive ourselves, often changing into different cars on the street and in parking lots. When the collection already contains 40-50 pieces, you need to look around more carefully and look for new ones. Unfortunately, the more cars in the collection, the more difficult it becomes to see the new items...
3) For the 5th, 10th and 15th levels we will be given only 15 prize cars in the form of garages with signs (?) on the map. You need to go open them - it's easy.
4) After transferring to the next department, we get a new main machine. There is no need to look for 4 more cars.
5) You can see your car collection in the Other section - Car Showroom. It’s better to go there at the end of the game, when most of it has already been collected, in order to compare it with the list and identify what’s missing (the procedure is also not easy). And then find the missing ones, it’s written there how. I was missing 3 pieces - it seemed like a trifle, but I had to sweat!
6) The above method "Click on missing car in the Auto Show - Cases - Free mode - Search the intersection" works well with cars. This method did not work for me with trucks!
*P, S. I myself found the police lockup while examining the corpse in the “Murder of the Secretary” case. Before this, the game didn’t let me get into it.
**PS If you look at the table carefully, there are two trucks in the game with exactly the same name “1946 International KB8” with slightly different characteristics. One of them is a special blue "Polar Bear Ice Company". You need to "ride" both trucks.
