How to unlock the Auto Fanatic achievement in L.A. Noire - Definitive Guide

Alright, this is going to be an extensive guide that is basically composed of a bunch of tips that will help you with getting all 95 drivable cars in this game. I would highly recommend you leave this achievement until the end of the game as you will have driven a considerable amount before the end of the campaign.

First off, during the campaign, any parking lots or vacant vehicles you find, enter them to see if you have not yet driven that specific one. Trust me on this that a lot of the cars in this game look the same, so it's better to be safe than sorry and just enter any car you see. If you do this throughout the campaign, you will have a vast majority of vehicles driven. I had around 68 when I started to clean up.

Secondly, find all 15 of the hidden vehicles, which are marked by question marks on the map. The question marks will start to pop up every few levels (tied to correctly branching questions) that you reach throughout the campaign with level five unlocking the first 5 marks, level 10 the second set of 5 marks, and level 15 the third and final set of question marks.

Now we reach the clean up part. I am going to add a few links here that will help you considerably in your search. Something some of you may not know is that in the main menu of the game, below cases, is the extras menu which contains a vehicle showroom. Any car you are missing will be shadowed out.

Those two links within the spoilers is exactly what I used to get this achievement. Along with the links, I used a method created by Epic Awesomeness from the X360A community and LegendaryMarvel, who made a solution for this back on the 360 version of the game. This method is all thanks to them and involves

Vehicles such as Packard Custom required me to use the "Hot Property" street crime in the Arson desk and Buick Custom required me to use "The Set Up" case in the vice desk. Once again, I highly recommend you use the wiki as it gives an info on any car you may need to do a specific requirement for. I hope that this guide helps everybody and if you feel like I am missing any helpful tip, let me know in the comments.

As of 12/13/17, I can confirm that the 'Extras->Vehicle Showroom->Press A' trick still works for the basic cars (not service vehicles). They didn't appear in the parking lot across the street but most of the time one passed me immediately or would be at a nearby intersection.

The easiest way for me was to memorize what the front grill looked like on the vehicle and search for that. Good luck!

This tow truck gave me trouble. What I did (and tried it several times so I know it works repeatedley) is Go to the showroom click on the tow truck back out to cases load up arson free roam and drive out to the street. There is usually at least 2-5 Chevy Tow trucks right there. Hope it helps someone.

Works great! The Extra showcase tip still works - even for service vehicles for me! Had two left, spent hours cumulatively looking for them, only to try this tip and get the last two within minutes of each other. Thanks!

By the time I finished the story I only had two cars left, the Pontiac Torpedo Six & the Studebaker Commander. I tried the looking at cars in extras and loading free roam homicide desk, got both cars in a few minutes trying. Good guide & tips, Thumbs uptoast

I spent hours upon hours unlocking all 95 vehicles and the achievement didn’t unlock! 😡 My husband said it’s because I just started some of the vehicles and didn’t actually drive them around. Does anyone know if that’s possible or what else could be the problem?

The showroom method worked 5/5 times I needed for cleanup of non-story based cars. When you spawn in, immediately turn 180 and run towards the intersection behind you for the car. If not, it likely spawned back in the direction you face when you originally spawned in and will be approaching you from behind after getting through the light and driving up the block.

Also, just in general, I only needed about 15 cars by the time I hit Arson case by remembering a basic rule. Anytime you stop somewhere on a case, either investigating something or conducting interviews, get in every car you see parked in the area and most likely you will get a majority of the to-do list knocked out. A lot of the car fixed spawn locations are based on points of interest during cases, so its just an easy rule of thumb.

Great guide, +1!
Just to add, one of the last ones for me was the International Police Wagon. You can get this one before the cut scene to the Bus Stop Shooting street crime as two are blocking the street. If you don't get it there, there should be one parked on the street behind your own car after that same street crime is done.

I had a problems with the Cadillac Series 75 Limousine as the Showroom method wasn't working with Homicide. I would recommend using the Vice desk for Free Roam as they naturally spawn in Hollywood and Franklin which is near Dept. Did it on my first try. Just hover over it in the showroom and then go to the VICE desk Freeroam via Cases and it shouldn't be a problem. The rest were all easy to find using the other methods. Good guide.

Going through the cars my last one was the service 14 international metro k1bm and the wiki doesn’t have a location for this a google search shows many people looking for hours for this last vehicle I was it almost immediately on the map where it says wilshire district in the ‘wil’ area of the script to the west of the park/art museum landmarks

Ok, so I had an issue where I had unlocked the 100% achievement but not this one.

I thought maybe I hadn't driven a car far enough and was planning on redoing this over again. However, I had one more idea and just loaded up the Arson desk free roam. Sure enough, I drove off and boom, achievement unlocked. I'm not sure if this will work for anyone who has this achievement glitch on them, but it's worth a mention

This didn't unlock for me after I drove off with vehicle #95 during an arson desk case late in the game. I backed out to the main menu, went to a random case (I think it was the driver's seat on the traffic desk) then I backed out of that when the case began and I started driving off with Bekowsky. I resumed my game with the previous save (my regular progress at an arson case) and started walking around and then bam it unlocked.

This one is definitely glitchy!

CREATE A TRAFFIC JAM - Another trick I used during gameplay was to get in any random car, then just pull up facing head on to a car at a busy stoplight (stopping them from going anywhere), and just waited as cars backed up from behind.

I had BLOCKS of cars backed up, and just got into each one, over & over again. Really helps.

I finished the game with 84 of 95 cars so clean up was much easier.

PS - One of the hardest service vehicles to find is the infamous Milk Truck (Metro KB1M). I can confirm all the confused & angry posts online that this truck WILL appear sometime near the end of the work day at La Brea & Hawthorne at the intersection(s).

Just be patient (I stood in the middle of the road creating traffic jams and policed the intersection to let cars go by), and ask yourself, "If I were a Milk truck driver, and did my rounds throughout the day to deliver milk, when would I head back to the Polar Ice Company (my employer)?"

Pro Tip: - You'll also find other service vehicles in the traffic around this time too (sunset-ish).

This guide is great. Saved me a lot of time. I had over 70 cars by the time I finished the main game just by car hopping while playing. The showroom trick worked for about half of the cars I had left. The other half were mostly service vehicles but could easily be found with the Wiki hints.

Wiki hints didn't really help with the Chevy tow truck. It suggested looking around McArthur Park. I drove around the park about 20 times before giving up and found another site in a googlel search that just said Willshire. So I started on one end of Willshire and just drove towards the other end and passed one within minutes.

Also the Wiki didn't suggest it but the last vehicle I needed which was the International KB5 I just happened to find during the Hot Property chase. You have to be quick to get it because if you take too long the guy will escape before you get into it. It's parked behind the Just Picked Fruit Market. It is there every time you run the Street Crime.

So i discovered a method a while ago and i posted the idea into the comments section of a YouTube video, which got a fair amount of traction so i'll post it here as well!

Video is by GTA Series Videos

Video link:

My Tip: Before you load up the free roam, get the car you're going for next selected in the show room! I got my last 10 cars like this 100% of the time, and most of them, 7/8 out of 10 were just driving right by me as soon as I spawn in without even needing to drive to the specific location!

My first "guide", let me know if it can improve it!

Still works. Was missing a few cars and after viewing them in the showroom they spawned right in front of the police station

There is a very big chance that the last car you will need to obtain this achievement is 2 door Packard Custom (13th on the list). There is very easy way to obtain it.

First of all you need to ignore the solution saying you can get this car in The Gas Man case. The car simply won't spawn. I've read that they replacet the car with InstaHeat car.

All you need to do is play the Street Case Hot Property. Drive after fleeing suspect but DON'T TRY TO STOP HIM and ignore Packard Customs ( If you are aiming for 100% completion you need this car saved in your gallery). The one you MUST get is behind the truck the suspect will crash at the end of the chase.

For those of you strugglinig to get the last few cars or if you just can't find one.

Below is a video about how to make cars spawn (I obviously don't take credit for the video.

Text Description: go to vehicle showroom (in extras) and go to the car you are missing. Stay highlighted over that vehicle then back out to main menu. Go to free roam (any desk case should be fine) and the car should spawn right near you

There are a total of 95 cars for you to collect in the game. You do not need to drive any of the cars, all you have to do is get behind the drivers sit for one second. If you don't know which cars you are missing you can go to the main menu and then scroll down 2 times and hit to go into the extras menu, from there choose the Vehicle Showroom to see which cars you don't have yet. Cars that you can see are cars you have driven and cars that are faded out are cars you haven't driven yet. Here is a link to the locations of each vehicle thanks to KryptoniteDragon: LINK

These are the 15 hidden vehicles that are in the game and are marked as a question Marks (?) on the map when you press . The question marks (?) show up when you reach ranks 5, 10 and 15. Showing up 5 at a time. Thanks to VidGamiacUnlocked for the video.

There's a total of 95 vehicles in L.A Noire:

  • 2-Door: 25 Cars
  • 4-Door: 19 Cars
  • Sports: 8 Cars
  • Service: 19 Cars
  • Police: 9 Cars
  • Special: 15 Cars

You'll have to search high and low for most of the cars but over 80% of them are on the streets driving about, so you'll most likely pass them on your journey. All you need to do is jump in and let Cole start the engine. Once that's done, a message letting you know it's a new car will pop up on the left side of the screen! If no message pops up, you've already unlocked it.

Out of the 95 cars, 15 of them are special unlocks that become available as you progress through the game and level up. To find these, locate the '?' on your map and drive to it's location. Once there, look for a garage with the 'City of Angels' logo on it and an entrance door. Simply walk in, and the garage will open and the car will be inside.

There is a great way to quickly find cars. (This method only works with 2 and 4 door cars!!!) Tested personally.

Go to the Extras menu, then to Vehicle Showroom, then scroll to the car that you don’t have, click , then exit (twice ). Go to Cases, select Homicide Desk, and then Free Roam.

There will be an intersection in front of you, drive up to it and look for the car you need, in 90% of cases it passes, if you don’t see one, then to the left of the place where you appeared there will be a parking lot, look there. If it’s not there, then repeat the procedure described above, but this didn’t happen to me.

this method sometimes works on other machines. For example, this is how I found a Pickup truck in the specified parking lot (No. 6 on the list of Service vehicles). Let me repeat, it doesn’t always work, but sometimes it works!

It is also worth adding that the Buick Custom can be found in the parking lot at the very beginning of the “The set up” (Vice desk) case. The car will have a white roof:

Personally, I could not identify this car using the described method, only in this mission.

This method doesn’t work at all, because the locked machine does not respond to pressing in any way , accordingly, there will be no spawning - at my intersection ordinary cars were passing by, cars of no interest to me, the parking lot was also either empty or with cars that had already been studied. Don’t get on your nerves and don’t try to cheat the game, as was already written in one hint, from the very beginning of the game get into every car you come across, don’t be lazy to check the cars several times, even if you are sure that you sat in a similar one, because the cars are similar to each other friend like twins. By the time I began to purposefully look for the missing ones, I only had 3 cars left.

Perhaps the most difficult trophy to obtain. Some cars are only present in business. Here are good lists of where you can find the cars you need and in what cases:

There is something like a loophole to get the missing car - go to Extras, select your car collection there, look for the not found car, click , get out, then go to Affairs, there you will find the Homicide Department and free mode, go there. There will be an intersection in front of you, with a very high probability the necessary car will pass there. If it is not there, then it can be parked in the parking lot opposite the site, or on the side of the road area of the site and intersection.
The method works with 2 and 4 door cars, sports cars, and most service cars.
Also, if the desired car appears only in the Wilshire or Hollywood areas, then you can perform this trick in the arson department and the morality department, respectively.

In total, you need to get behind the wheel of 95 different cars. The search results can always be viewed in statistics.
The trophy is indeed very serious, I will describe my vision of how best to get it:
1) You need to keep it in mind when starting to play the game. Familiarize yourself with the list above (in Russian - it is much more informative) and somehow make a special note (or write out) cars that appear only in cases. And as you go through the game, you will immediately find these cars in your files.
*PS I made a mistake on this, because of the “1946 International KB5” truck I had to replay “Divine Predestination” until the episode with the sniper for the second time...
2) Most of the cars on the list just drive around the city and sit in parking lots. So from the beginning of the game we drive ourselves, often changing into different cars on the street and in parking lots. When the collection already contains 40-50 pieces, you need to look around more carefully and look for new ones. Unfortunately, the more cars in the collection, the more difficult it becomes to see the new items...
3) For the 5th, 10th and 15th levels we will be given only 15 prize cars in the form of garages with signs (?) on the map. You need to go open them - it's easy.
4) After transferring to the next department, we get a new main machine. There is no need to look for 4 more cars.
5) You can see your car collection in the Other section - Car Showroom. It’s better to go there at the end of the game, when most of it has already been collected, in order to compare it with the list and identify what’s missing (the procedure is also not easy). And then find the missing ones, it’s written there how. I was missing 3 pieces - it seemed like a trifle, but I had to sweat!
6) The above method "Click on missing car in the Auto Show - Cases - Free mode - Search the intersection" works well with cars. This method did not work for me with trucks!
*P, S. I myself found the police lockup while examining the corpse in the “Murder of the Secretary” case. Before this, the game didn’t let me get into it.
**PS If you look at the table carefully, there are two trucks in the game with exactly the same name “1946 International KB8” with slightly different characteristics. One of them is a special blue "Polar Bear Ice Company". You need to "ride" both trucks.

It helped to compare the list of vehicles in the tracker in the Social Club and the search video from GTA Series Videos. In this way I found 10 cars, the remaining 85 were found in free mode/business in traffic, in parking lots, according to question marks on the map.

I put all the cars in a table - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing
In theory, this approach should simplify the task. You download the table and with each new task, in the table, through the filter, select the task that you are currently completing, and you can immediately drive those cars that are found only in certain cases.
The table helps you not to jump through the entire list on a page on the Internet, but to show you only those that you need at a certain moment.
The only caveat is that Google Sheets does not allow you to merge the cells that we will filter, so it is better to download the table to your PC and combine the rows in the column with the names of the cars.

Policeman "Bobby" - 1940 International Police Wagon

A truck with a compartment for criminals can be obtained in the additional mission "Bank Robbery". The mission becomes available in the Homicide Department and is obtained by patrolling the streets in a police car, then accepting a call for

As soon as you get to the crime scene, immediately choose the side you like, since this type of car is located both on the left and on the right.

The trophy will not seem difficult if you do the following (as I did):

1) During your FIRST playthrough of the game, try to frequently change into different cars as you complete “cases”, as well as minor crimes. Thus, closer to the end, you will get about 60 found cars. It will be easier to find in the future!

2) Rare vehicles from the “service” category are not necessarily found in any specific “cases”. He is carefully hidden around the city and can also spawn in a specific area or even a parking lot.

3) As described above. The trick of selecting a transport that has not opened to obtain it later through free mode works. BUT! Works only with 2 and 4 door cars.
Select a vehicle that is not found in the “Car Showroom” using the button and go into the free mode of the “Murder Department”. We look at the parking lot across the road, your car should be parked there. In the worst case, we guard the nearest intersection and hope for a quick spawn. If it does not happen, then we repeat this operation, only select another department. It may happen that a certain car spawns only in a specific part of the city.

4) If you still decide to tackle this list at the end of the game, then this video should make the task of achieving this trophy a little easier - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bgJuIPqtOU

To be honest, the videos and tables presented above did not help me, so I want to share what I used:
1. As you progress, change seats more often and by the end of the game you will have about 20 - 30 cars left (this is for those who have just started).
2. This only worked for me with two-door cars, click on in the car showroom menu, and try to look for a car in the Morals Department, because the desired car should appear to your right. And you don't have to go anywhere, just get out of your car and... you know what.
3. Use Fandom , all possible appearances of the necessary machines are described here. I found the last 5 cars thanks to Fandom. But everything is written there in English, but don’t be alarmed, everything there is intuitively clear where and what is located.

That's all!
PS If you are going through the game for the first time, then don’t focus on cups and platinum, just enjoy the game, and then commit evil!

I would like to add, in case someone doesn’t find it right away, “Car Showroom” is launched through the menu . Namely: in the main menu, where it says “Continue” or “New” in a shadow, if you haven’t started yet, press down on the crossbar and go to “Other” , there we see “Car Showroom” and “Authors”, first for you!
I spent a long time looking for where this “Extra” tab is located, as everyone writes, and where is this famous “Car Showroom”, which makes people’s lives so much easier, but it turned out to be banally simple and in plain sight)
