Out Of The Frying Pan
Pursue Vernon Mapes from the burning house to Hughes Aircraft on your first attempt. Details for this achievement will be revealed once unlocked
How to unlock the Out Of The Frying Pan achievement in L.A. Noire - Definitive Guide
First of all, when pursuing Vernon Mapes you do not need to follow him between the houses or down all the small alleyways. Doing so increases your likelihood of driving into a fleeing pedestrian. In fact, you can stick to a main road route the whole time which I show in the video.
Two Military Police cars will enter the chase towards the end. In the video I nudge the first one causing it to crash, but this is unnecessary. You can pretty much ignore them as they eventually crash themselves.
If you use the route I show in the video, there is no real time pressure, so take it easy. Keep a good distance so you know when to make the turns and make sure your sirens are turned on.
Note that you must do this "on your first attempt". So if you mess up (cause too much damage or spin out) and/or lose sight of him, then before you fail, go to the menu, select Quit, then go to Resume. Annoyingly you will find yourself outside the house before it gets torched by Mapes, so you will need to go inside, find all the clues, and escape, but it will allow you to bag the achievement.
Good luck!
Towards the end of the case, you will need to investigate the house on 3941 West Second Street from the photographs you inspect at Tech Services in the police department. After searching around the house for clues, a Molotov cocktail will be thrown into the house. Escape from the burning house to see Vernon Mapes jump into his car and book it for Hughes' Aircraft. Simply follow Mapes to Hughes' Aircraft. Do not let Mapes get too far away from your vehicle and do not focus on trying to shoot out his tyres or running his goons off the road. Once Mapes pulls up at Hughes' Aircraft the achievement will unlock and a gunfight will ensue.

*Missable* During the course of the case, you will investigate a house from a photograph clue that was discovered. Following a cutscene there, you will begin a vehicle pursuit with Vernon Mapes. Unlocking the trophy requires pursuing Vernon all the way back to the Hughes Aircraft facility without failing (losing sight of him). There will be other vehicles in the pursuit that will attempt to stop you. Remember when pursuing that the red vehicle icon on the map will show the suspects direction and will fade to indicate you are getting too far away.
If you fail at this challenge you will need to “Quit Out” to the main menu and “Resume” your case from the last automatic save checkpoint (which is just prior to entering the house).
Accidents during this pursuit could negatively affect getting a 5 star rating for the case.
We chase Comrade Mapes quickly but carefully - the most important thing is not to lose sight of the “object”. If you see that you have moved away a lot, it is better, of course, to immediately reload the checkpoint.
Took it from the first approach, it doesn’t go very fast.
