Wooden Overcoats

Wooden Overcoats

Bring down a total of 30 bad guys with head shots.

How to unlock the Wooden Overcoats achievement in L.A. Noire - Definitive Guide

If you want this achievement fast, you can select the "Cases" option in the main menu (scroll down on cn_LS when the screen loads - by default you'll get the "Resume" option instead), and replay any case with a large amount of enemies.

I went with the easy Patrol Desk case called "Armed and Dangerous". It's the second case in the file. Once the level loads, drive to the location, and you'll automatically retrieve a shotgun from the trunk. The shotgun has a large spread, and at times, even without aiming for the head, you may get a headshot credited to your kill, as shown in my video below:

You can check how many headshots you've done by pausing the game with cn_start, and choosing the "Statistics" option. Scroll down to the part that says "Gunfight" to see your total number of kills, and total number of headshot kills.

If you want to be sure of getting a headshot, press forward to the cars near the bandits. They'll retreat into the building, and at least one will take cover at a ledge near the windows. As his back is facing you, you should notice the head popping out (thanks, hat!) for an easy kill. Use the statistics page to check whether the kills count if required.

To continue the grind, let the last enemy kill you, and you'll restart right at the shootout. If you want to take a break, finish the level by killing the last enemy to make the game saves. If you don't save the game, all your progress will be lost. So either get the required number of kills in one sitting, or finish the level to save your progress.

You can obviously use the same method to get 100 total kills for:

You should have no problem getting this. First of all, make sure you use a pistole or the M1 Grand etc. As these are easier to pull off single fire shots and are more accurate than something over a Thompson which kicks up and sprays bullets. Simply watch where your enemy comes out of cover and then aim in that spot. Once he pops out, pull off a shot to get that headshot and instant kill!

I advise going for this trophy very early in the game and go for headshots only. There are enough enemies in the game to get this trophy. If you are the type of person to use free aim, this will be easy to obtain. Just use cover and wait until the person you want to shoot gets out of cover, Cole can take about 3-7 hits from most of the guns in the game before he dies. You can replay a case after you beat the game if you haven't achieved this trophy at that point.

Note: If you are having trouble taking too much damage use the Hawkshaw suit (take an extra dose of damage and stay standing).

A fairly simple trophy, because... Automatic aiming is enabled in the game. So, leaning out of cover, the main character automatically aims at the criminal, if he is in his field of vision, all that remains is to slightly raise the sight to his head and shoot (like in GTA).

At first, you have light aiming assistance, so as you see the criminal, you aim and raise the sight a little :RS: to the level of the head and shoot , repeat 30 times, the achievement is yours. To see how many people were shot in the head, go to the statistics.
