How to unlock the Bulletproof Windshield achievement in L.A. Noire - Definitive Guide
Go to Options set AIM ASSIST to HIGH
As soon as the fight starts run to the trunk of your car and select the machine gun.
Remember to press to reload
STrategy
A total of 4 cars pull up but ignore the first one it pulls up straight away, focus on changin your weapon. After selecting the machine gun, stay behind your car, DONT RUN INTO AIRBASE. Pick off 1 or 2 enemies, but wait for a car to come down the main road, with aim assist to high you will easily kill him
Now run into airbase and head behind a truck, 1 car will come from the left and one from the right, from behind the truck you will be protected from any fire and have a prime position to take the drivers out. Focus on the 1 from the left first, if you fail you should be able to get the 1 from the right.
If all cars have pulled up and the achievement has not unlocked allow 1 of the enmies to kill you, if you restart you have to play from the burning house.
From Comment:
I used the auto aim, but I switched outfits to "The Sharpshooter" which allows improved shooting with the Colt .45. After putting this outfit on, I was able to get the driver in the car on the main road, then the one that came from the left quite easily on my first try with that outfit on using the handgun

Personally I would use the Tommy Gun, that may be the reason for some of the down-votes (video they use pistol). Tommy Gun is in the trunk of your police vehicle. Just follow along with their directions and it should work after a couple tries when you get the hang of it. Took me 5 or so tries.
1. Most important, turn aim assist off. All that ever did for me was focus on someone I didn't intend to aim at. =)
2. Immediately focus on the first car that arrives and shoot the driver.
This can take some practice, but the car always stops right in front of Cole and just to the left of the red barrels and the driver's head is just under that top ring on the left barrel. Watch and study where they stop. I did not change to the sharpshooter outfit and immediately focused on the spot to aim. Sometimes you will kill the passenger, and if you do, likely the driver survives. If you succeed, the driver will have his head leaning against the steering wheel. If you fail, immediately run into the fire and try again.
As others have said, do not quit and start over, you will have to go back to the house prior to the chase again.
2. Once the driver from the initial car is shot, go to the back of your car for the automatic gun.
If you shoot at anyone, press to reload.
3. Run down the street and look for the red car on your radar. If it doesn't show up, run back up the street a little and it will appear.
4. Once the red car is in focus, aim at the windshield and fire,
If the car swerves, it does not mean the driver is dead, it means you hit the windshield. Keep shooting.
If you succeeded at killing the driver in the car coming up the road, you will see the achievement, and congratulations. If you did not, run into the area and start over.
I had no luck with either vehicle inside and wouldn't bother with them. It was much easier staying out and getting the two drivers I mentioned.
5. If you want to, turn your aim assist back on to help with the next 2 scenes. I didn't use the sharpshooter outfit for this, but you may want to consider it for the upcoming battles.
Good luck with this. =)
*Missable* Immediately upon finishing the chase sequence with Vernon Mapes (see Out Of The Frying Pan trophy) you will become engaged in a shootout. During the shootout, 4 enemy MP vehicles (green with star on the door) will drive into the shootout to join the gunfight against you and your partner. To unlock the trophy you must kill 2 MP vehicle drivers prior to them exiting the vehicle. Getting very close to the MP vehicles and to the locations they arrive is paramount to getting easier kills on the driver prior to the vehicle stopping.
The first thing to know is that your aim assist will pull your gunfire and will cause your gun to aim at enemies running nearby. Aim Assist should, however, be set to high to assist with this trophy ( to Pause then choose Options > Controls > Aim Assist > High).
Immediately at the start of the gunfight, quickly shoot the guard at the guardhouse to your right. Then sprint forward to take aim directly over the front hood of the MP vehicle already parked here. Aim toward the direction of the green truck while you await the first vehicle’s arrival. Take careful but fast aim at the driver’s head for a quick kill. Pre-aiming at the spot helps ensure you are ready and closing the distance allows for more of a chance of getting on the driver as a target. Learn the location of the where the vehicle will stop if subsequent attempts are necessary. The vehicles arrive and stop in the exact same location each time provided you are moving in the manner detailed.
With the first driver dead (you will hear the horn sound from the driver slumping onto the wheel when successful) you now need to sprint back to the street. Soon another MP vehicle will drive down the street toward you (a red vehicle icon always shows on the map). Take a position out into the middle of the street and get close to take aim while the vehicle is closing toward you. The other MPs can’t shoot you there and will not follow you. The lone driver of this MP vehicle is an easy kill when you get close enough. Take aim as early as you can and hit the button repeatedly to get aim assist to help target him. Pull up slightly for headshots.
The trophy does not unlock immediately upon finishing the two kills so continue to try with the next two vehicles just in case. Actively sprint toward where these MP cars will stop and try to get in front of them to more easily shoot the driver through the front of the windshield. Remember that you may want to try with different guns available in the trunk (including the DLC Piano gun if purchased) and bonus outfit choices (such as the Sharpshooter's accuracy bonus) can also be beneficial. Concentrate on getting kills while very close to the vehicles and don't be overly concerned about being killed as this is usually a minimal risk.
All MP vehicles inside the fence (where the first vehicle was) will appear each time in the same pre-determined locations with the third one coming from the left and then the last one appearing from the right. Killing a certain number of enemies or advancing forward is what triggers the MP vehicles 2-4 to arrive.
If the trophy does not unlock, or you failed to get two driver kills, then retain at least 1 or 2 enemies at the end so that you can run into their gunfire and die. Continue will reset you immediately prior to the arrival cutscene and you will still be able to unlock the trophy. Be aware that 3 failures will prompt you to skip the shootout (unless skip action sequence option is set to off) and you must respond “No” so that you don’t save beyond this save checkpoint until you've earned the trophy. Remember that this trophy is Missable and if you reach the next auto savepoint you will require a complete case restart.
During the final part of this case, you will be caught in a gun battle outside of Hughes' Aircraft. In order to unlock this achievement you will need to kill two different drivers before they pull up and get out of their vehicles. You will have the following four different opportunities to do this:
- The first vehicle will pull from left to right of your original position you start at.
- The second vehicle will come from the street behind you after taking out the first vehicle.
- The third and fourth vehicles will pull up a little bit further behind where the first car pulls up.
It is recommended to take out the driver's of the first two vehicles because those seem to be the easiest, and if you fail then simply run up to the remaining enemies, die and try again. Listen for the horn to make sure you've taken out the driver. Watch the following video from the guys at Achievement Hunter for some help.

I'll put all the tips together:
-In the settings, set auto-aim to “high”.
-Wear the “Sniper” suit.
-Do not be nervous.
You must kill 2 different drivers in a shootout near the factory at the end of the mission.
-1 car can be missed and 2 warriors can be shot for the next car to appear.
-2 a car comes from the road and you can run towards it, only the driver is sitting there, kill with a targeted shot from a pistol and run to your car to take Thompson.
-There is a truck parked on the territory parallel to the plant, we run towards it and hide behind the cabin, the 3rd car will stop right in front of your position for shooting at point-blank range.
- 4 the car will arrive from the checkpoint and will be at your fingertips.
I killed 3 drivers this way.
