How to unlock the Magpie achievement in L.A. Noire - Definitive Guide
The achievement will pop at 313 or so clues. What is important with some clues is to "inspect" them and look at them really good. (moving the item around until it completely zooms in and Cole will make a remark on it.
My achievement popped while I was doing the Nicholson Electro Plating case and I went into the apartment searching for clues.
(Which will net you the Skeletons in the Ice Box achievement if you found the wristwatch, ring, microfilm and tie pin)
Cases: Every case from Traffic, Homicide, AD Vice or Arson.
Street Crimes: None
When you get to a crime scene and/or a suspect's house, make sure you listen out for the chime and your controller vibrating. Both of these things indicate when you're near a clue! Make sure you search the scene thoroughly to make sure you have got all necessary clues to the case. As soon as the music stops playing, that means you've found all valuable clues in that area!
When you've completed the case and the rating screen pops up, it'll show you how many clues you've found (out of a total). If this is short don't worry for now. Just carry on playing the game and make sure you try and collect the rest in the other cases. You do not have to get every single clue in every single case but you must get the majority of them so that your clue percentage does not drop below 95% (guess work). If this hasn't unlocked by the time you complete the last case ('A Different Type of War') then you'll have to go back to each case you didn't get some clues on and complete them again. So take note of these cases.

Note: Clues found in the DLC do not count towards this trophy.
You can get this trophy by replaying cases. There are a total of 241 clues in the game, all from each of the 21 cases that are in the game. You will need a total of 229 clues to get this trophy. If you have beaten the game and still haven't received this trophy, you can replay case(s) that you may have missed clues in. The game saves all clues found and once you find a clue that you may have missed the game will register that one to the total already found prior to replaying the case. You should earn this trophy in the last case in your main playthrough or during your time replaying case to get the Shamus To The Stars trophy.
If you are having trouble finding the clues and you don't want to use a guide, there are Intuition points you can use. There are five points that can be used during each case once they have been earned, unless you are replaying a case (They are already given). You can use Intuition by pressing when you are at a crime scene or at a suspect's/victim's house and scroll down to show all clues, making all the clues visible to you (they will show up as a magnifying glass).
You will know when there are more clues in the area when the investigation music continues to play. There will be a chime and the music will stop playing once all the clues have been found. Also when you leave the location, press to see if the location has been crossed out, if so there are no clues left, if it's not there are more clues there.
Make sure to check your Notebook and to see how many clues you have. If you need assistance make sure to go to the options section in the pause menu to turn the hint music and vibration on. You can use this Guide to help find all the clues: LINK

If you want to look for clues yourself, I highly recommend that at the beginning of the game you collect all the collections (short stories, records, films, badges, landmarks) - the level will increase, and with it the intuition points that can be used when searching for clues. One point - and all the evidence in place will be highlighted on the radar!
