How to unlock the Lead Foot achievement in LA Noire - Definitive Guide
SO once you get the vehicle set a custom waypoint for Alameda, its a few blocks to the left of where you get the vehicle, and if you look it is a straight contiuos line, this is the tram line
When you get on the railtrack keep driving in straight line, traffic should be very low. After a while you will see the saving icon then the achievement will pop. It may feel like the car isnt going fast but just keep in that straight line.
After a short movie clip where Phelps and Rusty run after the suspect you jump into a car other than the one you drive in.
It's a fast car. You follow the suspect. Arrest the suspect, still have the sports car.
The street next to the police station (where there is a tunnel for cars and one for trams), start at the tram lane as almost no one rides over it.
Follow the metro rails in full speed, going over the street into another tunnel. Whenever you see the "saving" wheel come up, you net the achievement.
Easy as that.
The area is north of Beverly Blvd. Please see attached photo for the exact location.
The crosshair points to one of the entry gates. There is a straight line to drive through and you are surely going to be going over 80mph for more than 10 secs straight. You can also drive over the grass if you like.
Moreover, there are a bunch of cars usually parked behind the building so you can change your car if need be.
Hope this helps. Happy hunting and Godspeed!
There are a lot of cars that can go 80+ miles per hour. Once you get to the traffic case or any case that you want, just turn on the sirens and drive as fast you can on a straight road. Try your best to stay in the left lane, due to the cars always driving to the right when they hear a car is police car is coming. If you are having trouble getting this trophy, locate a rare car (marked as a question Mark (?) if you haven't found it yet or a car if you did) on your map once you reached a certain rank (5,10,15). Using one of those cars will net you this trophy very quickly.
Note: Trying to do this while on a case can affect your overall star rating if you hit any other cars or pedestrians.

If you are having troubles getting this trophy, find a Police car or one of the rare cars and head over to the airport. Here is an image of the location.
During The Fallen Idol Case: Thanks k1ll1ng5pr33 for the tip.
When you leave Marlon Hopgood's place, once you enter your car, they will shoot you and a chase will start. Keep holding and just keep driving on the road you're on. Once the chasers are gone, the trophy unlocks.
Most cars you see in L.A. Noire will push it to 80mph with a good enough run, but the best ones to stick with are the police cars due to the sirens. The only issue is, there is nowhere on the HUD that tells you your current speed, but if you just hold down you'll reach it in no time. You can get this achievement at any point while you're driving around, so simply get in a car and give it a go.
You'll need to make sure you have a nice straight road (which there are plenty of - 2nd St for example) and a fast enough car. It'll take a short time to get to 80mph as the cars are from the 1940s, but once you think you've hit the peak, just keep driving straight and try not to crash or weave. Again, grab a police car and put on the siren as this will increase you chances of not crashing as the pedestrian cars will pull over out of your way.

As a piece of advice, it’s better to do this in a racing car, fortunately there are plenty of them in the game, I got it on exactly this one
