How to unlock the Couch party achievement in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris - Definitive Guide

This one is very simple. But misleading. Should say "spend $200 on 3 more controllers for your xbox one."

Update serious guide:

If you have at least 1 friend and 4 controls this is easy to get. Just run the first tomb at the start of the game. Once u get past the first small puzzle / jump with all 4 players kill off players 3 and 4 and do not press *A* to respawn.

At the end of the tomb when you are running up the stairs to the exit. Kill off player 2 at the start to make the run easier. Finish the run without a death and this should pop after the cut screen.

This will also pop (No worries, I got this!)

The easiest tomb by far to get this is Khepri's, as there are no puzzles and it takes less than 5 minutes soup to nuts.

How do dumbshit developers keep thinking local multiplayer only achievements are a good idea? Especially for 4-player.

No sale.

I know! If I had friends I wouldn't be playing video games! It's all business, they know we can buy 3 controllers easier then we can buy 3 friends

What I mind amusing is Halo MCC also has a similar achievement, but at the same time it makes me think about all the people that moan about games (specifically Halo 5) that don't have split screen.

If anyone has someone they know who has an Xbox One in person, just ask to borrow a controller. I asked my bro for help with Halo MCC, job done.

why is it a deal-breaker for you if you have 4 controllers? The hardest part of the achievement is getting the 4 controllers...

By ArogueHaggis on 20 Jan 2016 18:12
Actually, that's all about money--that's not the hard part! Reading the descriptions, the hard part is requiring someone to play it with you at your console--that's the hard part!

Why are you saying that you need a friend? If you have 4 controllers, can't you just use 3 guest profiles?

@romisthebest: On normal tombs, you need at least 2 players to actively play the tomb, as there are passages, where you need the grappling hook and also need the guy that does the shield to overcome certain spots. I will try Khepri, as he's a boss level and you can just respawn the other controllers on the final steps to the exit.

^^ What a silly comment.... do you have any idea how many people 'borrowed' controllers from gamestop or elsewhere then returned them just to get that Halo achievement? Do you not realize that traditional Halo was 2-player, not 4-player coop!?! I have plenty of gaming friends, but only one of them has a One so far. I happen to have 4 controllers, but the average person will probably only have one. This achievement might be the deal-breaker for me, as I never locally co-op game on the One.

I found another way to get this achievement. If you have a Windows 10 PC, then you should be able to stream your Xbox One via a local network. By doing this, you can then plug your old Xbox 360 Wired Controller into your PC and use it to play the game.

Bit of a complicated set up, but I had my two Xbox One Wireless controllers connected to my Xbox One, whilst having my two Xbox 360 Wired Controllers connected to my PC whilst streaming, giving me the required four players I needed.
---
UPDATE 05/06/17
There have been reports of the Xbox App only allowing one controller to be added as an input device for the game. If you find this to be the case, then the other three controllers must be connected directly to the Xbox One itself, and the last can be streamed to the console to get you the four required players. You can find a growing list of supported / not supported devices for both Xbox One and the Xbox App at the bottom of this solution.
---
UPDATE 05/01/19
If you are having issues connecting two or more Xbox 360 controllers through the Windows 10 Xbox App, then you can try first loading up a game with four-players, such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection Achievements. Sign all controllers into guest accounts, then quit and load up this game. From here you should now be able to join all controllers to this game.

As I said, a bit complicated, and may not be helpful to many because of the various hardware and software needed, but helped me and is the only way I could have got this achievement.

If you are doing this, I would recommend killing two of your characters and leaving them unspawned, making sure you have at least one character with the staff. You will need two "playing" characters in order to complete some puzzles (they are different from solo puzzles) but feel free to kill them and spawn them as and when you need.

If you manage to complete the tomb without dying, you will also earn this achievement.

How To Stream Xbox One to Windows 10 PC
If you have a Windows 10 PC, you should have the Xbox app installed. It can be found on the start menu by default. Open this app and it will ask you to sign in with your Microsoft account. Make sure this is the same as your Xbox account. Once done, have both your Windows Xbox App and Xbox One signed in and connected to the same Wi-fi Network. On the left-hand side of the Windows Xbox App you will find an icon second from the bottom called 'Connection'. Once here, click 'Add Device' and pair your App with your console. Once paired, you should see an option to stream.

In attempting this achievement, you can use various devices to connect as a controller to either your Xbox One or Windows 10 PC. However, only some devices will work. Below is a list of devices and their confirmed status.

do the 360 controllers need to be the wired ones or do wireless ones with plug and play cables work fine too?? roll because someone mentioned a similar method for a local co-op cheevo in Rayman Legends and a wireless 360 controller with plug and play cable did NOT work when doing the streaming thing.. thanks for the info though!

I am unable to test this, but can't see any problems with it. As long as the wireless controller is connected, either by plug and play or a wireless adapter, then I'd imagine it would work fine. But, as I said, I can't personally confirm this as I own neither, sorry.

Slightly unorthodox, but can anyone confirm if rockband controllers (guitar/drums) count as a player? Also, for win10 streaming, would a 360 guitar controller or any non-microsoft usb gamepad connect?

By xJPOLLEY on 28 May 2017 22:03
I've attempted this method with the win10 streaming, however, only 1 of my controllers on my pc were able to select a player slot. All 4 of my controllers do in fact work and I cycled the usb ports as well. I can also confirm that rock band 4 guitar+drums do not work. Is there some setting to allow more than 1 controller when streaming to pc that I'm missing?

@xJPOLLEY - Thank you for your confirmation about the Rock Band 4 controllers. I have added a paragraph to the bottom of my solution to list the devices that have been confirmed to either work or not work using this method. In regards to your streaming problem, unfortunately I am unable to test this anymore as my wired Xbox 360 controllers are way past it. However I am sure I used 2 connected to my laptop as I can't think of any other way I could have got the achievement, as I only had 2 Xbox One controllers at the time. The only thing I can suggest is plugging in your controllers first, making sure they're connected, and then launch the Xbox App. Hopefully then it will recognise the 2 controllers as separate input devices. Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

@xJPOLLEY - I have just been messing around with the game and have remembered that each controller needs to be signed into a profile in order to play the game. So, when you 'Press X to Join', you will need to sign that controller in as a guest account, or as a different gamertag all together in order to play. This may be the solution as to why you can only connect one controller.

No, that's not it. The stream version at present is not letting anything more than the "First controller connected" to PC to run to the stream app. Some stupid revision they've made in a recent update. I've checked on multiple PCs, seems to definitely be a pathc to the streaming app. I haven't figured out how yet, but if oyu can roll back to an older version, all your 360 and bone controllers should work seamlessly.

I used 2 360s and 1 One controller on the streaming app for my TMCC boosting, so I know it works for a fact. Just aggrevating that it doesn't work _just now_.

I managed to unlock this achievement using 2 Xbox One controllers and 2 Xbox 360 wired controllers via the Windows 10 app.

I did encounter the not detecting both X360 contollers issue, but I came up with a soultion.
I loaded up Halo: The Master Chief Collection, went to custom games and signed in all 4 controllers as guests, then quit and loaded up this game, and pressed X to join on all controllers.
In theroy, you could do this trick with any Xbox game with 4 players.

Another way that could work in theroy, sign in with a different profile on each controller before starting the game.

@Hurball - for this achievement you will need four controllers connected to the device with four "players". However, when a player dies, you have to manually respawn them. When the game starts, kill players two, three and four, leaving you to control player one on your main account. This will still count as a four-player game, but it is essentially single player as there is only one character present. Some puzzles will require more than one player, so respawn them when you need them, complete the puzzle, and kill them again to make getting around easier. Some puzzles may be difficult to do on your own, as you need to control two controllers simultaneously, but it is possible. I hope this helps and sorry for the late reply.

@xJPOLLEY - With Xbox One, I was able to use my Guitar controller from Guitar Hero Live to register as a new player, although you will only be able to move forward and back due to how to controller is configured. I was unable to register my Thrustmaster Race Wheel as a new player, although I could navigate the guide with it, any inputs into the actual game were not recognised. So I assume it will vary by device, and unfortunately I cannot test Rockband controllers as I do not have any. As for Windows 10, the only controller I had to test was my Moga Pro Bluetooth controller, which I could connect to my PC, but it wasn't recognised by the Xbox App, and could not be used in the game. So it would seem maybe only Microsoft controllers work here. Hope this helps.

Tomb of Sobek

We are going to use this tomb to get all of the co-op achievements out of the way, as it is the shortest tomb. If possible, play through this your first time in 4-player co-op with four controllers for Couch party. This cannot be done online, so you’ll have to buy or borrow extra controllers if you don’t have four. Since you’re already doing Couch party, make sure you do not die with your main, and kill all three of the extra controllers at least once so that you get No worries I got this at the end. At the start of the tomb, have your buddy (or do it yourself with controller 2) put up their magic shield and place/detonate a bomb at their feet for Human cannonball. Then have them bomb themselves to death and revive them with cn_B for Not on my watch.

Lara Croft and the Temple of OsirisNot on my watch! The Not on my watch! achievement in Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris worth 18 pointsRevive another player in a local or online multiplayer game

The entrance to the Tomb of Sobek is on the right side of the entry area for the Pyramid of Osiris. He’s the large alligator boss. When the fight starts, just make sure all three extra controllers die and don’t revive them, and make sure you don’t die on your main. To defeat Sobek, use bombs to knock the time bombs into the center basket while holding cn_LT so they don’t detonate, then once a bomb is in the basket, shoot the eye switch above it. Sobek will jump up and eat it, damaging him and exposing his belly. Bomb his belly with your bomb, then rinse and repeat twice more to beat him.

While doing the initial phase of the fight, before the enemies show up, use your bombs to knock three time bombs up into the basket at once, making sure to hold cn_LT to slow their fuses. This takes quite a while waiting for bombs to show up, which is why you do it right away, while there are no adds to bother you. Once three are in the basket, shoot the eye above it to feed them to him and get the challenge done. After you do this the first time, grey alligator enemies will spawn. Put a bomb by one of these alligator enemies while it is standing up on a platform nearest the basket to launch it up into the basket, then shoot the eye to get Sobek to feed again and get this challenge done.

Kill a couple of his minions while doing this for Primus Inter Pares for getting the most kills in a tomb in co-op, and grab at least one gem for Oh we’re supposed to share these for getting the most gems in a tomb in co-op.

If you did this with the four controller method as advised, and ensure that the three extra controllers died while you remained alive the entire time on your main, you will unlock Couch party and No worries I got this as well. You’ll get Nothing a belly rub can’t fix for your first finish.

This requires you to finish any tomb with four local players so you will need to have four controllers and three other players. You cannot complete this by yourself if you only have the controllers.
