How to unlock the Art Connoisseur achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) - Definitive Guide

In the first room of the game there is a painting on the left and right walls. Choose one to stare at and AFK, simple as that. (You could also wait till late in the game at a point where you've already looked at paintings for a good amount of time and pick one to stare at, so you don't have to sit for an hour.)

In case anyone cares, you can make progress toward this in the Inheritance DLC also. Some of the paintings don't seem to work - like Furboy in the office (perhaps because it's torn?) and the painting of the daughter in her room - but some other ones work just fine. Best bet is to keep the achievement tracker on-screen so you can see which paintings help fill your meter and which ones don't.

Best to do with the fur boy painting as it doesn't always work when looking at random paintings.

I just did 2 runs, 1 thorough and 1 speedrun; progression was at 24%. Since the game requires at least 3 runs anyway, it might be a good idea to only idle at a painting on the 3rd run in Chapter 6.

Add another comment for this taking much less then an hour at the start of the game (furboy painting). Somewhere around 30-35 minutes for me.

Also took about a half hour. My achievement stamps prove it.

Yep, I also confirm that I got this in about 30 minutes. Stared at the Furboy painting in the upstairs office at the very beginning of the game.

Strange. Tracker is stuck at 100% here. Locked. Power cicle my Xbox, delete saves, reinstall game.. nothing worked. Seems I'll have to wait and see.

Art Connoisseur Achievement Guide

To make this easier turn on both the lights in the office upstrairs in Chapter 1, and just stand a few feet back from the Furboy Painting making sure the border of the hole painting is in view without standing too far back, this is the painting you already have to stare at for 5 minutes for a different achievement.

This painting for sure adds to the percentage, while other paintings do not count towards the completion of this. I learned this the hard way by staring at the painting with the two dogs by the piano for 2 hours to no avail.

Achievement will pop after an additional 55 minutes of staring at the Furboy Painting.

Happy Hunting.

The painting outside of the kid's room of the girl holding the ball (or whatever that is) works well. I have the entire frame being seen and the tracker is showing progress.

I’m staring at the dogs above the piano and my tracker is moving. I think the key is making sure the entire picture is in your field of vision. Make sure the whole frame is visible as you stare. I should have it in about 10 minutes.
