How to unlock the Omniscient achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) - Definitive Guide

Hey Guys. So basically this achievement is for witnessing all the endings. The game has a total of three. These include the Wife ending, Self Portrait ending and the Wife and Child ending. I have made videos for all three. By following these three videos you can pretty much get the full 1000G with the exception of maybe one or two achievements.

You can do the endings in any order. However I would recommend doing the Self Portrait one first to get all the collectibles out of the way this includes Rat drawings and Mementos. Once these have been picked up they stay collected and you don't have to pick them up in other playthroughs. Next I recommend doing the normal wife ending followed by the wife and child ending last. You don't have to do them in this order but it does make it a bit easier in my opinion

IMPORTANT READ BEFORE VIDEOS

With the Wife and Wife and child endings I don't pick up any Rat Drawings or Mementos as I had already collected them in the Self Portrait ending.

IN THE SELF PORTRAIT PLAYTHROUGH I MAKE A FEW MISTAKES AND QUIT OUT INTO THE MAIN MENU TWICE THEN CONTINUE FOLLOW THE VIDEO EXACTLY INCLUDING BACKING OUT LIKE I DID FOR THE ENDING!!!!!

Here are written guides for each one (Thanks to YAZITE for confirming these!!!!)

Self-portrait ending (the selfish ending):

This is achieved for essentially being selfish throughout the game. Ignoring your family and focusing on your paintings.
- Deathless run
- Stare at paintings frequently
- Follow rats whenever possible
- Interacting with only story related items OR items relating to your selfish personality (crooked glasses is an example)
- Possibly achieved for going below the neutral ending.

Wife ending (neutral ending):

This is confirmed to be the neutral (loop) ending and is achieved for gaining a neutral number of points in relation to the other two endings.

Wife and child ending (family/regretful ending):

- Throughout the game you should ignore anything relating to your selfish past (except story objects of course)
- Pick up items relating to your wife
- Approach your wife at EVERY encounter and "embrace" her
- Ignore rats and paintings as much as possible
- During the child chapter, approach the child in the red hall rather than back away

Wife and Child Ending in more detail!!!!!

-Prologue: run straight upstairs, grab key, back downstairs to unlock the studio

-Chapter 1: hairbrush on windowsill to the right (early on in chapter, sort of easy to miss)

-Chapter 2: piano notes in room right across from small room with key; scary baby chest by creepy window; violin in closet in vinyl room

-Chapter 3: room that appears behind you after looking at it through a window has a calendar in the left top drawer, turn on lamp in next room; library room turn on lamp in the corner next to small table with tobacco pipe on it and push ladder to get key and unlock upstairs door; basement staircase turn on light

-Chapter 4: note on floor from fire horse room; birthday hat on teddy bear; kids shoes in bow room; break mirror in vanity mirror room (open two drawers); checkers puzzle (beating heart); out of apples note in top right drawer under the beating heart on wall; feed fake cat with fruit on same table; walk under chairs death; open cupboard in floating crayon room; doll hallway near the end look through window on the right at carousel outside; pick up perfume on windowsill; look at creepy kid's picture in pool of blood door/room right after perfume; kid's room interact with jack in the box and picture in same dresser

-Chapter 5: Die in flashing lights wife hallway with item on floor next to candle (do not pick up item); "don't look back" jump scare death; pull chain three times; fold up mirror on windowsill, go in other blood pool room right after; go into room with wife in floor right after that, exit and then go back inside to get that death; phone numbers in order, 363, 853, 354

-Chapter 6: Die in yellow hallway, "each mistake a pitfall" death (very easy to miss, after you drop down door on the floor, look straight ahead at the only exit while walking backwards); jump into picture pit without pulling up pictures; bed on fire room and bandages; necklace on windowsill, walk into area next to it, then walk into wife's room then look at everything in room; push wheelchair as far as it goes; knife in bathroom

-Ending sequence, note in child's room area on floor; secret safe code (hard to decipher what the actual code is on the vid but starting at 0 if you move the dial counterclockwise from 10 to 20 to 30 to 40, then from 40 go clockwise to 30, then to 20 and the safe should open) then go to stairs and watch them collapse; light tri candles with little floating house next to it in checkers room

(CREDIT FOR THE WRITTEN PART OF THE WIFE AND CHILD ENDING GOES TO UNDEAD SHROOM) Thank you for taking what I did in my video and translating it to written text

I played thru first time with no guides and used beth bear on 2nd playthru to mop up everything. On 3rd playthru, I needed 1 item and thats the #21 palette that did not show up on 2nd playthru and ended up with another repeat ending so read around and found out the best way to get paint palette then tried repeating chapters 4,5,6 to get wife/child ending but couldnt get it. Maybe I messed it up when trying to replay just the last chapters but then I remembered its a point system so that meant another full run thru. While playing beth bear play thru, I noticed a speedrun on YouTube for wife/child ending by CCLSama that takes 45 minutes. Got it first try following that speedrun which nabbed me another 1000 gs.

Note that chapter 6 and maybe 5 have different order to follow as playstation run is different than xbone run thru. If you get confused, just watch for extra 2 minutes and you will see the differences between the rooms. They are almost exact except it looks like it was edited in wrong order so you can still find and earn all cheevos using these videos.

Do not know if its true or not but others said you had to collect everything to have better chance at getting wife/child ending.

The other thing I noticed in my last play thru was each time you paint to complete that chapter, the picture looks more like your ending.

Now I have to decide if I should do the DLC. hmmm

like i mentioned above, my save was deleted, [ not sure why ], so i had 0 collectibles, i also got the rat puzzle for the door, and i still got the wife and child ending from following the guide. it could be as simple, as not looking out the window in act 2 to see the wife, or didn't look at the selected few paintings [ ones that shakes], or didn't look at something long enough. since no one is sure for 100% what the triggers are it could have been anything.

Followed HellCreeper's link and that guide did it for me the first time.
Video guide above did not work for me. Followed exact on 2 playthroughs and still only Wife ending.

Can anyone confirm if self-portrait really needs the rat drawings? I missed one on a play through and unsure if I need to restart. That stuff stays collected even on a new game so if related to an ending wouldn't that block other endings?

@Danny Seattle, I tried this on my first playthrough and I just got the wife. SO you must need all collectibles to unlock the wife and child. I can confirm that you will not get the wife and Child on your first playthrough

Got the rat code instead of the dog, probably looking down too much at the rat while watching the guide, but still did everything else the same and got the wife/child ending no problem. Awesome guide. Also confirming this was my 3rd playthrough and already had all the collectibles.

Fresh save, 0 collectibles [no Mementos in the book, no rat drawings on the wall], i got the wife and child ending, following this video, so i can confirm that you don't need to have collectibles, and can be done on your 1st run.

Thank you!! Seriously, thank you! I followed your video exactly and finally got the wife and child ending. The difference between your video and my last run is so tiny, it's ridiculous (in my last run, I did everything exactly the same, except I also picked up the sketch of the wife that's on the back of the painting that gets flung against a wall).

Excellent, the wife and child video guide worked for me. Thank you!
I thought I might of screwed up by accidentally picking up the note in the room opposite the one with piano music sheets, but I got the ending I needed at end. Makes me wonder what the actual criteria is for this ending.

For those who basically know where the all the items in the game are and who don't want to sit through the video and watch yet ANOTHER playthrough. ALL CREDIT GOES TO BETH BEAR FOR THE AWESOME VID!! Can confirm if you follow the guide below it will get you the cheevo as I pretty much translated her guide from video to text smile

Again, I would recommend that you have a handful of playthroughs under your belt as I don't guide you from item to item.

Again thanks to Beth Bear for solving all of our dilemmas with completing this awesome game!

I notice that a few people are saying they have followed the wife and child ending vid and not got the ending.
The only thing I can think of it... 1) It has something to do with the rat drawings and mementos ( as I had collected all these from past plays) although people have said above that they followed the vid without having any of the rat drawings and mementos and still got the endings or 2) People are missing something I do in the video - I can't think of anything else as to way it might not be working for them.

First playthrough for me and I followed this guide to the absolute T. I even went as far as opening the drawers as you did and looking down corridors etc, so it must be to do with collectibles. I never picked up or collected anything you didn't in your video. The difference that I did have was the Rat instead of the Dog when you pick up the drawing and have to figure out the code. I'll probably make a second runthrough collecting everything and go for this again on my third run

Only if Beth collects every collectible in one of the videos. I've only watched the wife/child one so I can't tell.
I would do an all collectibles run first following the guide from playstationtrophies.com and then do 3 runs following Beth's videos.
Remember to start a new game for each run.

There's a simple way to get the self portrait ending. Just load up chapter six walk towards wife after the room where the 3 paintings fall, when you reach the crank room with the black pit crank up the paintings and fall into the pit. Pick up the bandages in the room with burning bed and the knife in the bathroom, just finish the chequers room and that should get you the self portrait ending.

tvsr... No idea why this is happening but I did the wife and child ending last..
I did the self portrait one first, followed by the wife then the wife and child..
For me this was the easiest way...
As I said previously its either something to do with having all the collectibles..
or when you are following the video you are possibly missing something.

Get ending with wife and child again..
I Think just need find a whirligig in last blue room for this ending. What you think?

Maybe try speedrun without collectible, but with whirligig

Nice guide Beth, but you leave out a VERY important detail in the WIFE ending. You just quit out after the guy throws the painting in the room with the others - you need to go to the MOR and start a new painting to complete the WIFE ending. I had to watch some PC-guy on Youtube finish it, to get credit for this ending. This is an important detail. See Lone Wolf up above - if he quit out like you, this is why he is still stuck @ 66%.

I have gotten the wife ending twice now, but no "Finishing touch" achievement and no Omniscient achievement!! I don't know what else to do. I have beaten the game five times already and it just seems to be broken.. angry

The game doesn't save once you get the wife ending? I exited out and when I cam back and clicked "continue", it took me back to the beginning of chapter 6. I beat chapter six again and the game just doesn't want to register that the game is completed..

@ Epsilon Factor

===> The wife Ending in the video posted does NOT show that in the end you need to go up stairs to the office , get the key from the desk , go downstairs and unlock the portrait room , look around till there is a fresh canvas on the stool there and push it down .Then the game will end giving you the Wife Ending credit .

I my self had the same issue .

Some questions. Why would I need to quit and reload twice? Also, Ii have followed the video for Self Portrait and it doesn't match with my play through. The rooms you went through before the Ouija Board, I had them after the Ouija Board. What gives? Also, I have collectables in different locations

Used your video plus Undead Shrooms written checklist to get the Wife+Child ending. Too bad my game crashed after finishing the painting. Reloaded and had to do the ending checker section again. Finally made it to the credits but my achievement didn't pop even though it was the last ending I needed. The snapped achievement tracker says 66%, but the achievement app says 100%. Gotta love those Xbox One achievements sometimes. Thank you for a perfect walkthrough, though. I guess my achievement will pop eventually.

*EDIT*-Finally got the achievement to pop by replaying chapter 6 and getting the wife+child ending again. Thanks again for the perfect guide.

For the wife ending video (at approx. 14:11), in the room where the piano flies down the hall, you turned around and left through the door you came in. When I tried, the door was locked. Not sure how to proceed. I even tried quitting and restarting the chapter a few times, but its always locked for me. Any suggestions? I was following the video 100% and would prefer not to stray of course as best as possible lol

About W&C ending:
>out of apples note in top right drawer under the beating heart on wall; feed fake cat with fruit on same table;
I have no notes in this drawer, i dont have a fake cat and i can't interact with fruits. It's critical? Until then, I strictly followed the video. Fresh save.

UPD: Anyway, i got the achievement. Thank you.

Worked great, I just replayed chapter 5 and onwards, picking the selfish choices, and ended up with wife. 1000G in two and a half playthroughs. Thanks so much for the guide.

Thanks for this. This was the only ending I needed and the guide worked for me. I just wish there was more diversity in the levels based on the ending you are going for. It's way to nuanced and repetitive chasing every ending. Anyway, thanks!

Upvoted, but don't follow the guide exactly. I have problems where I can't mimic the SP video. I couldn't pick up the gun after the baby bedroom in Ch4, the cabinet was locked. And now, I can't get the paint palette on Ch5.

ALSO, you forgot to mention that at the end of the neutral run, you have to grab the key and go back to your art room to finish the run and get credit.

@iKushtyy and any others that have the problem with the gun and the palette this is what I found. I tried opening the cabinet with the gun but I never was able to get it open so I skipped it. Still got the selfish ending. The palette didn't spawn initially either so I continued with the video and it spawned after turning the lamp off, turning the light switch on and opening the door on the left of the light switch.

I would also like to add that if you don't want to do 3 full playthroughs you don't have to. Using the guide below and chapter select works. I did the selfish one first then with the other 2 endings I selected chapter 5 each time and played through to the end. Each time I changed how I acted to get the different endings

So with the Wife and Child ending, it works without having every collectable in the game. I followed the text guide as best as I could (had a little bit of trouble with the ending) but it unlocked. I played through the game normally twice, one for a normal playthrough, one to speedrun the selfish ending, then I completed the Wife and Child ending though chapter select.

Hm, i finished the game first with the Self Portrait ending. Then i finished with the wife ending. After these i restart the last chapter, followed the video guide from chapter 6, and i got the achievement. So you don't have to do 3 full playthrough fortunately.

Great guides beth bear. I have seen all three endings but two of the endings didnt give me the achievement for them, the mother and the father endings didnt pop their ending achievement. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it in the Done. Unlocking phase? not sure what to do, Is there a way you get the correct ending but mess up slightly to not get the achievement? does that happen?

I got wife and child portrait on my first playthrough, then self portrait, and lastly I got the wife one... but the achievements didn't activate. I ended back in the house, is there a way to trigger the achievements here?

Edit: (fixed) All I had to do was go get the key on his desk again, go back to his workshop and start again. This will trigger the credits and the achievements.

Just incase anyone else has Breedhate's issue where after the second quit out you're stuck in the hallway with the bathroom (it happened to me as well I think I walked too far into the bathroom) all I did to fix it was quit back to the menu again and chapter select chapter 6 then finished following her amazing guide step by step and still got the self portrait ending despite my mistake. Hope that can be helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos :)

In case this helps anyone else, here is what I did to get all the achievements without three playthroughs.

1) Played through the game without any guide. Opening everything and picking up everything I saw. Encountered the ghost when I saw it and child. Ended the game with the wife/child portrait.

2) Used chapter select to pick up any collectibles I had missed; 4 words, 5 mementos and 4 rat pictures I think.

3) To be safe, loaded up from chapter four, followed the rats, looked at pictures, avoided ghost and child, didn't pick anything up except the words. Ending was the self-portrait.

4) Loaded up chapter four again, avoided rats, didn't look at pictures, encountered the ghost and died at each opportunity. Fell down the hole where you would use the crank to raise the portraits up. Avoided any items and child interactions. Ending was the wife portrait, which allowed me to pop all achievements.

Guide works perfectly. Scooped it up like ice cream. I did the neutral ending first, then the self portrait when picking up the collectibles and the rat drawings seemed to outweigh the other collectibles. I followed Undead Shroom's text guide and, although I didn't get it the first time because of a chapter 5 death I missed, I ended up getting the wife-child ending by loading up there and finishing. Of course I'm doing this in 2018 so maybe the devs patched some things up but it just requires some perseverance.

The game is definitely frustrating with all the vague requirements for the wife-child ending, the low-budget horror cheese, and the checker scavenger hunt but at least its easier than sawing off a leg amirite?

Not sure if anyone posted this. Played on the Xbox One, I can confirm I got the wife and child ending. Only difference was that in chapter 2 (I think) when you walk towards the piano that moves twice, I couldn't go through the door that was gone through in the video. It was locked. I went past the piano and into the same room. Other difference was that In chapter 6 near the end with the checker board in the middle, the staircase didn't break as it did in the video. I lit the candles, then walked over to the staircase and it broke.

First play through I got Self portrait following the Walkthrough getting all collectibles.

I HIGHLY suggest do as a few have said and chapter select Chapter 5 and finish the game following the text version steps above. I received the wife/child ending following it first try and will also try this for the wife ending.

+1 for the work! I just dont have it in me to copy cat 3 hours of video so Im glad someone mentioned the chapter select thing

For anyone struggling to get the wife ending like me (even though it's the easiest to get) I would suggest speedrunning the game. The game can be completed in roughly 40 minutes if you completely ignore everything that doesn't progress you through the game. You are pretty much guaranteed to get the wife ending this way as you haven't done anything to influence the other 2 endings. Your painting looks like it will turn out as the wife and child all the way until the end, don't worry about this as you still end up with just the wife. You don't have to waste time looking at her items and embracing her at all opportunities for the wife ending.

I forgot to report back! So, after getting wife/child I loaded up chapter 5 again. Went through and embraced wife when I could, looked at bandages and necklace, avoided child in red hallway, avoided kid stuff as much as possible. Got wife first try!

Give the Chapter 5 reload a try, it will save you some hours

Followed walkthrough, got self portrait.

Reloaded chapter 5, followed text guide above and got wife & child.

Started new game, speed ran through the whole game, picking up nothing and avoiding all contact as much as possible, avoiding rats, avoiding looking at anything except my next door, got wife.

Followed through the video step by step, but got the wife ending instead. My collectibles reset somehow when I started this play through, so there might be something to that as this should have been the last ending I needed with 100% collectibles. Did the walk through not trigger the wife and child for anyone else?

Can confirm that I got the self-portrait ending without getting all the rat drawings. I suspect endings may be connected to just the spoken word items as they never disappear. I had Wife for a 2nd time but had forgotten the necklace in chapter six, quit out and started from beginning of the chapter. Interacted with all objects that trigger dialogue and then got the self -portrait.

For the Wife and Child ending video: at around 14:10 in the hallway with the piano, when you turn around and open the door in that hallway it is locked for me. I have every collectible, both of the other endings, and have followed the video completely. Do you know why?

I just read the writing guides as I watch a video for collectibles, but there is something I didn't quite understood. You said it was better to begin with self ending to clear collectibles. That's good, but then you say that we need to collect only certain stuffs for that ending and I follow a collectibles guide. I'm only at chapter 4 first run so I don't worry too much as I have no real way to know which ending I'll have, but could you precise this a little?

Worked great for me. I missed a couple of things; I forgot feeding the cat and picked up one of the "selfish" echos and forgot the crayon drawing echo, but still got the Wife/Child ending no problem. After getting the Selfish ending on my first collectible run, time to try to go for the "common" Wife ending...

I got it perfectly fine, 3 playthroughs, 3 different endings and 1000G (inheritance DLC this weekend.) Thanks Beth Bear! (fellow Welshie.)

I personally think the guide which said "literally do everything exactly the same" is wise advise; however, it is pretty much what you do and don't pick up. The idea is that you ignore everything not related to your wife and child, and DO pick up everything related to your wife and child. Things like staring a portraits is quite vein and thus helps the selfish ending etc. At least, thats my knowledge of it.

@sanityends Self Potrait is one of the easier endings. If you pick up all collectibles you'll probably get this ending.

I just earned the final three achievements for completion. Due to some confusion I experienced, here are some tips to complete this game in one play through with chapter replay only for extra endings and missed items.

Potential Spoilers below: Please play this game through x1 on your own so you will understand the tips and experience the immersion.

I used the TA walkthrough guide (thanks Yazite, Beth Bear & SpiralGamerPro for your excellent work) to collect items and earned the 'selfish ending' first. As I reloaded the saves to gather missed items, I realized I was changing the outcomes and the pathing. That is: I went different places and had different experiences from any video/written guides available. My game had missing items that were available in some guides. In order to follow the guides "exactly" I would need to start a new game. Didn't want to do that if it was not necessary.

Edit-wildwest08 points out that you need to understand you may have to change your actions,i.e.- read different notes, or otherwise 'tinker' with actions to get your desired ending. as I indicate above.

So, I reloaded chapters 5 & 6 to experiment. Chapter 5 glitched & I could not get a final path to open up after the 'telephones' sequence, so I went out to the menu and reloaded chapter 6 and continued. Now, I wanted the Wife ending so I focused on letting her kill me every time and looked at her items like brushes, notes she wrote, pushed her wheelchair, focused on her necklace which is found in the windowsill, etc. Because I went through the 'bright light doorway' into the child's room in chapter 5 in my first run and I went down the 'red hallway' to the child in chapter 6 on my chapter replay, and because I looked at child items...I earned the Wife & Child ending. Surprise.

After the second ending I replayed Ch. 5 & 6 again and focused on letting the wife kill me every other time and looked at more paintings, rats & avoided looking at the child items. I skipped the bright white light doorway after the telephone sequence and instead followed the dark hallway that opened near where the timbers blocked my pathway. I avoided the child at the end of the dark hallway, in red. I turned right instead. Pushed the wheelchair in the hallway a bit but ended the sequence looking at the paintings vs pushing her chair until the hallway turned black & paintings disappeared. Continuing to the end the Wife ending unlocked. This occurred in spite of the starting painting in Ch.6 which had the outline of the child in the painting with the mother!

After you stack the painting in the cut-scene, go to the office and pick up the key from the desk. Go downstairs and unlock the painting room. It is on the same wall as the chest nearby the house front entrance. Go into the painting room and touch items or walk around until the scene lightens and a fresh canvas appears on the easel. YES! touch the cloth covering the easel and the achievement(s) will unlock. Be sure to find the developers notebook prior to unlocking the painting room. It is by the couch after the cut scene with the Wife painting.

My thanks to No Parasite & justGOTwicked for their posted comments that helped steer me in the right direction.

Interesting thing happened to me.

Tried going at it the way you mentioned where I start on Ch.5 and onward where I only focus on the wife since I had gotten the self-portrait/wife+baby ending.

Every time I only paid attention to the wife (her killing me, her memorabilia, etc.), I kept getting the wife+baby ending. So for the hell of it, through those 2 chapters, I only invested in being selfish and not paying a lick of attention to anything that relates to her.

Apparently that works since I managed to get the wife ending by.....not giving a shit about her at all. You'd figure that'd lean towards the self-portrait ending but guess not. I dunno if my actions in the previous 4 chapters would have an impact but even then, Ch.5/6 always gives me the nearly finished portrait of the wife+baby so no idea there.

So if anyone's having trouble trying to get the wife ending by focusing on the wife, try neglecting her entirely at the start of Ch.5 and see if it works. If it worked for me, it can definitely work for you.

Yes, AndALargeSodah, focusing on watching rats, looking at paintings, etc. counters the previous chapter experiences saved in game memory. I completed all rat drawings first run and had to reload and play to find the letters I had missed the first time, from the wife and some child drawings. This contributed to wife & child the second time I played the 5th & 6th chapters. Had to go more selfish again the 3rd time I played ch 5&6. Everyone's game is going to be different in the order the collections are found, missed and saved. Thanks for commenting and I hope your findings help others. Interesting game that is free on Gold right now. I think I had to replay ch. 5 because of the number of missed items, one paint holder (Word) and a few written notes and one child drawing and a toy gun). Others may only need to replay ch. 6.

Worked like a charm! While it was a fun game, thank you for saving me two more full playthroughs, haha! I personally replayed Chapter 6 to get the Wife ending, then Chapter 5&6 for the Wife & Child ending, doing everything possible to please my ghost-wife both times. People will definitely have to finagle this, depending on how much 'karma' they've accumulated in their previous runs.

Thanks for the tip! It helped me to avoid 2 more full playthroughs. I think it should be noted in your solution that you might have to tinker with the choices to get the right ending. I never could get the endings from selecting chapter 6 only. I had to start from chapter 5 each time to get the different ones.

Thanks PTGigi and wildwest08 for your comments. I also had to repeat 5&6 but even though I had a problem completing ch. 5 x1 the game progressed with the changes I made when I started ch. 6 ; and I still got the second ending needed to progress to ending #3.

This didn't work for me when going for Wife & Child. I'm not exactly sure what I missed. I replayed chapters 5 & 6, while consulting both the video from Beth Bear and the text written about how to obtain Wife & Child. I did everything detailed out there. Right before I added the eye ball to the painting, the painting was indeed of the wife holding the child. But once I added the eye ball it transformed into just the wife.

Roman Navel, did you head straight for the child's room toward the light on your right or did you head into the darker side? Do not let the wife kill you next try. Turn around & run away but do let the child kill you by running toward her. Do not look at the wife's articles, look at paintings on the wall & do not push her wheelchair. Go down the Father's side. You may have spent more time on wife items in earlier chapters than I did. How and when you found and viewed collectibles, toys, etc. has an effect on the final painting. Keep track of what you have seen & done. I skipped some areas on my last play-through to shorten the game.

Hey guys so I think the only ending that actually needs a step to step guide is Wife & Child
ending. I found something that really helped me. credit goes to Escapistmagazine.com
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
for the wife and child ending try to do as many of these steps as you can but if you happen to miss some, don't worry just try to do as many as you can.
.
.
.
Whispered Word: Chapter 1 / Room 5 - When you input the lock code to open the ring case with the words "THE PAST HOLDS BACK LOOK CLOSER" on the interior. The code is 484. Grab the collectible.
Event: Chapter 1 / Room 7 - In the room with the painting in the back that drops you into the basement; don't look at it, just turn around and leave.
Whispered Word: Chapter 1 / Room 8 - Enter a hallway filled with portraits. One of the paintings will fly off the wall. Interact with this painting to pull it down and you'll discover a sketch.
Event: Chapter 1 / Room 9 - Once again, you'll reach a room with a painting in the back where rats scatter on the floor. Ignore this room, turn around and leave through the entrance.
Whispered Word: Chapter 1 / Room 11 - Enter the hallway with a candle on the window sill on the right. Grab the brush located here.
Whispered Word: Chapter 2 / Room 4 - Enter a small closet filled with paintings to collect a key. Through the door directly opposite this closet is another small room with notes inside.
Event: Chapter 2 / Room 6 - In the plain room with a chest in the corner, don't miss the chest. Open it to find a baby doll inside.
Event: Chapter 2 / Room 8 - Continue two rooms later and ignore the locked safe there.
Event: Chapter 2 / Room 10 - In the mirror room, don't turn around and look at the mirror again.
Event: Chapter 2 / Room 12 - Enter the room with the wheelchair. Once you see it, turn around for a scare.
Event: Chapter 2 / Room 13 - One room later, ignore the rat that runs left and continue on through the door on the right.
Whispered Word: Chapter 2 / Room 17 - Explore the large phonograph bedroom. Open the cabinets in the corner opposite the bed to find a violin.
Event: Chapter 3 / Room 3 - In the hall with the chained-up piano, go ahead and approach the piano.
Event: Chapter 3 / Room 5 - Trapped in the room, turn until a path opens. Move toward the exit, then spin around again to find a new door. Open it.
Whispered Word: Chapter 3 / Room 10 - In the hallway with the balcony and phone that reverses upward onto the small table, backtrack until the phone falls and breaks right in front of you. Check the receiver to get the words.
Event: Chapter 3 / Room 12 - Enter the hall with windows on the left. Walk forward until a force pushes you back. Approach your ghostly wife.
Event: Chapter 3 / Room 17 - Explore the bathroom through the door on the left and look into the black gunk in the tub.
Event: Chapter 4 / Room 2 - Enter the hall with candles lining the floor. The ghost of your wife twitches in the darkness. Run toward her.
Whispered Word: Chapter 4 / Room 3 - Reach a room with trees drawn on the walls. Open all four doors and they'll slam shut. Keep turning until an exit is revealed. Grab the door but do not open it -- turn around, witness the fire event, walk to the back of the blank room, then turn around to see a new note has appeared in your path.
Whispered Word: Chapter 4 / Room 4 - Leaving the room and entering a hallway with chalk lines drawn on the floor and walls, grab the party hat from the teddy bear.
Event: Chapter 4 / Room 5 - Don't interact with the lamp on your left as you pass through this room.
Whispered Word: Chapter 4 / Room 6 - Get to the simple sitting room with baby-shoes on a table to the back-left of the entrance door. Turn toward the window to get a glimpse of the baby doll.
Event: Chapter 4 / Room 7 - In the wooden room with the vanity mirror, look at the mirror and wait for the candles to light up.
Whispered Word: Chapter 4 / Room 8 - Enter a hallway and turn right to a dead-end with a checker's board. Find all three checker pieces to reveal a whispered words item on the board.
Event: Chapter 4 / Room 9 - There's dark room on the right. Go inside and take a look around.
Whispered Word: Chapter 4 / Room 17 - Escaping the multi-colored maze past the doll room and you'll wake up from the floor. There's an open door here, but don't go through it. Turn around and look on the floor of the closet to get a unique toy.
Whispered Word: Chapter 4 / Room 18 - Moving on, you'll reach a simple hall with black lines and a window sill on the left. Check the sill to find an item.
Event: Chapter 4 / Room 18 - In the same room as the collectible, try opening every door.
Event: Chapter 5 / Room 4 - Encounter the ghost wife down the hall. Run toward her instead of running away.
Event: Chapter 5 / Room 6 - In the hall with the bright light in the distance, run toward it to enter the next room.
Event: Chapter 5 / Room 15 - Ignore the instructions and turn around.
Event: Chapter 5 / Room 16 - Even if you collected the crank from Room 14, make sure to use the chain to open the door here. Do not use the crank.
Event: Chapter 5 / Room 19 - In the elevator, turn the switch right instead of left.
Whispered Word: Chapter 5 / Room 22 - Enter a hallway with a window on the left. The next collectible is right there in the window sill.
Event: Chapter 5 / Room 22 - Check out the door that's cracked open. Take a good look inside.
Whispered Word: Chapter 6 / Room 5 - Enter the melting hall and run toward your ghost wife in the distance.
Event: Chapter 6 / Room 9 - Once you fall into the lower level, enter the darkness.
Event: Chapter 6 / Room 11 - In the strange room, leave the pulley and drop into the hole in the center.
Event: Chapter 6 / Room 13 - Use the Ouija board in this room. Input the code 363-853-354 and grab the memento that appears.
Whispered Word: Chapter 6 / Room 15 - In the area with the black sludge blocking the path ahead, check the window sill. There's a necklace here.
Event: Chapter 6 / Room 15 - In one of the side rooms, you'll find a large portrait of your wife. Squeeze into the room itself and take a close look.
Event: Chapter 6 / Room 16 - In the opulent hallway, push the wheelchair to the end of the corridor.
Event: Chapter 6 / Last Room - Open the safe. The code is 042

Just a way to go a little bit faster if you want. Go for "Wife and Child" ending first, according to the excellent guide above, then, when you finish the game just reload the last chapter and be very careful not to die against your wife (in the yellow corridor and after falling through the horizontal door). Don't pick up the knife as well.

It should unlock the Wife ending, with only one chapter completed. It worked for me. Don't hesitate to tell me if it works for you.

This guide only focuses on the ‘Wife and Child’ ending and compiles the information detailed from the walkthrough and 2 other achievement guides. Credit goes to them!

I had completed the game using the TA walkthrough by Yazite which is a great guide. From this I was able to get all the achievements apart from this one and I received the ‘Selfish’ ending.

I then used Marine1Ten achievement guide for the ‘Wife’ ending. Again – another great guide and great tip on loading up the prologue, chapter 5 then chapter 6.

As I didn’t want to replay the whole game again for the ‘Wife and Child’ ending, I ran though the prologue, chapter 5 then chapter 6 again – hoping this would work. From using Beth Bear guide I completing the following list (see the walkthrough for the location of the important places and items listed) which gave me the ‘Wife and Child’ portrait and the achievement popped!

Prologue
- Get the key from the desk upstairs.
- Open the locked door downstairs.
FINISH PROLOGUE.

Leave game and load chapter 5.

Chapter 5:
- At M#11, let her kill you.
- The room after W#19. This is the room with the sign above the door "Don't Look Back". Look back and let her kill you.
- In the room with the wheel cog lock -- Pull the chain 3 times then go through the door.
- W#23 – collect the fold up mirror in the window sill.
- Just after W#23, you will see a door on the right – open it to find a ghost. The door will close on you. Re-open it, go in and let her kill you.
FINISH THE CHAPTER

Chapter 6:
- After W#24, head down the green tunnel. Let the ghost kill you.
- Once you walk into the door on the floor, walk backwards – let the ghost kill you.
- In the room with the crank and pit, jump into the pit and die.
- W#25 pick up the bandages in the room with the bed which goes on fire.
- W#25 pick up the neckless in the window sill.
- Opposite side of the hall from W#25, go into the room with the wife’s portrait on the wall. Look at all the items on the dresser.
- In the long hallway with the wheelchair. Push the wheelchair until it won’t move any further.
- W#27 pick up the knife in the bathroom.
- During Sequence 5 as the kitchen appears - Light the 3 candles, Open the safe (counter-clockwise 40, clockwise 30 then counter-clockwise 20) and look at the stairs for them to break.
FINISH THE CHAPTER

First of all: Thanks Beth Bear for AWESOME guide

Let me clear it first, this is my FIRST play though (no collectables and no ending). I only got following in Prologue:
Layers of Fear (2016)Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 125 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

Layers of Fear (2016)Art ConnoisseurThe Art Connoisseur achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 137 pointsGaze at paintings for a total of an hour

Layers of Fear (2016)It's covered up for a reasonThe It's covered up for a reason achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 25 pointsGet working on your Magnum Opus

I started a NEW GAME for next play thought and targeted Wife/Child first (as this one is said to be the hardest one). dance

I followed exact steps from the video. But on chapter 4, I am not able to get the note "out of apples". I retried loading game again but same outcome, no note again. I reloaded the chapter twice, no luck. I don't know what went wrong. So I continued with the game. Did all steps exactly as in the video. Once more something happened, in my case the ladder (in the end part of the game-play) didn't shattered. So I again moved on also kept on checking ladder. After I took the "weights" I went close to the ladder, and it shattered... Awesome. Finally finished the game and got WIFE/CHILD ending. FINALLY.. headspin
Also in the same play-through, I got this chevo:

Layers of Fear (2016)Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 573 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

So if you are playing this game for the very first time and going for wife/child ending, you may not get the "out of apples" note. So don't worry keep playing the game following the video exactly.

Moving On:
I want to finish wife ending without playing full walk-through so after finishing my Wife/Child ending, I reloaded "Chapter 6" from the main menu ("Continue" will be disabled) and followed the "Wife ending video" (44:43 - thanks to Beth again), and finished the game (by getting key and revealing blank canvas - this was excluded in the video). I got WIFE ending clap. I also kept tracking "Omniscient" ach progress (to be safe). As soon as credit rolled the tracker moved from 33% to 66% hence I got both ending in one play through (sort of).
In this process I also unlocked:
Layers of Fear (2016)Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 73 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

and
Layers of Fear (2016)Finishing touchThe Finishing touch achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 78 pointsComplete a painting

Now only one ending remains to complete (also all the collectables)

Start a new game and follow Beth video exactly. Only one place you will have to quit to the main menu and select continue (to get the other collectable as both CANNOT be gained in the same playthorugh which is Rat #13). Noe Beth said that she maid MISTAKE so restarted the Chapter 6 and her mistake was that didn't collected the necklace and Memento #16 -where all wife's stuffs are placed) - so keep this in mind so that you don't have to restart the game or just follow this side-by-side (which I did, just to be sure wink):
While this play through I shoot for:
Layers of Fear (2016)Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 101 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

Completed the game as shown the video and finally got:
Layers of Fear (2016)Secret AchievementThe Secret Achievement achievement in Layers of Fear (2016) worth 865 pointsContinue playing to unlock this secret achievement

when the credits rolled.... 1000G "in the bag" toast

NOTE: In my playthorugh there was issue with Memory #21. It did not appear as shown in the video so I enter the room as normal and watch the window shut and knock the candlestick over. Then interact with the lamp on the desk to your left. Next, by the door where you first entered, press the lightswitch. The room will go dark and a new door will appear in the room (opposite the lamp you switched on), open it, then the fireplace will light up with the memory in front of it. Thanks to RebornPasture. So keep this in mind. DO COLLECT MEMORY #21 before taking the elevator.

... PEACE!!! rock

For the Wife & Child ending i used this Video
there are some differents because i think its from PC
on Chapter 6 (37min) after you drop down

In the long dark hallway continue forward to the door and collect the chain on the window then further in the room enter the code on the ioja box
that happens just before you push the wheelchair to the front.

at the end i open the save (042) just to be sure its not in the video so better you do it

Hello. I just need to share with my findings about the "true endings".

After my first contact with the game I finished with Wife Ending. So my next step was to get self portrait ending using the video guide above. I have done everything exactly like in the video and in the end I've got Wife ending again. Then I have restarted the Prologue and tried to do Wife & Child ending. Without success - still Wife ending.

After couple of another tries with solution from the youtube videos I still finished with my wife portrait.

So I decided to START A NEW GAME.

After that I achieved the other endings in no matter of time. First the Self Portrait (with youtube video from first post), then after another START A NEW GAME - Wife & Child portrait (again using the video from Beth Bear post).
