How to unlock the WING AND A PRAYER achievement in Left 4 Dead 2 - Definitive Guide

The easiest solution to this is to load up the map with friends on Easy difficulty. Then the person who wants the achievement stays in the Saferoom while the rest of the team goes and does the event. Boom. Achievement.

The alternative is to load it up in Splitscreen with a second controller and use the second controller to go and do the event. This requires some controller juggling as your first may go idle and start to move; also your AI teammates will be constantly running back and forth between both players and opening the Saferoom door so being quick about it is advised. When the event starts the AI will join up with the second controller so just make sure the first stays in the Saferoom with the door shut.

EDIT: Thank to bobrepuS LOL for pointing this out a few comments down, DO NOT HEAL when you start the event, it voids the Cheevo.

Good idea, I'll have to try this out and see if it works. I'll post another comment if it works :)

Positive vote for now.

If the achievement is not unlocking for you no matter what method you try, go for it while playing offline. That did the trick for me.

Very nice, worked first try. I'd add in that you can just rubberband the sticks together on your main account's controller to keep it from going idle.

I tried this one a couple of times with no luck, with the same amount of health at the start and end of the event. I finally got the chievo offline, cleaning the cache. Popped right up, so if you have problems getting it, try that.

You can do this alone, work slowly and carefully killing all zombies towards to plane, open the emergency door and book it back to the safe room. Lock yourself inside and let the bots kill the horde that comes. the achievement should pop up in 2-3 min.

Did it offline, split-screen, as told above. Signed in on my account as player one and guest account as player two; kept player one in the saferoom and made player two run as far as possible - although the stupid AI didn't bother following until after I lost half my health from a jockey while a third of the way to the crashed airplane with a witch nearby. Quickly grabbed player one's controller and shut the door again, and then kept playing as player two, occasionally moving player one around the saferoom a little bit. Fairly simple, although I got worried at first that a zombie might've swung at me while getting player two out of the saferoom. Great solution! Thanks!

I'm going to agree with Tm5k here, this isn't guaranteed to work.

I followed the video without fail half a dozen times, never getting hit--one time, I even still had 100 health, and I never healed myself--but the achievement never unlocked. Eventually, I decided to try split-screen, leaving the guy I wanted the achievement with back at the safe room, and it finally unlocked for me. It was a real bitch to get, since the bots kept running back and forth between my guest account at the plane and my Live account in the safe room, but I still got it on the first try.

Well then try it again, you probably haven't followed the guide and have wandered. You need to stay in that position and not wander, that is important.

By JediJohnny7 on 20 Dec 2009 12:06
I think it was the latest update because I definitely did not wander on any of my tries using this method. Last night I tried again on Normal while disconnected from Xbox Live (ran up the tree to the back of the plane for a change) and it unlocked no problem. Must be that bug in Valve's servers that was causing grief for some of the Crash Course achievements on L4D.

I have to agree with the dissenters here. I did the above method three straight times without taking damage (even having 100 without healing), and it didn't pop. Then, I tried it splitscreen and left my Live character in the safe room, and it popped on the first try. The latter method was easy as pie - the only problem was touching the controller once in a while to keep it from going Idle.

It's strange, I did it first time and did not get hit at all. Followed the guide down to the letter. Nevertheless it didn't unlock. Tried it again, once again followed the guide, except this time it unlocked.
I think this achievement has a mind of its own. =\

So i did this amazing thing, i initially followed this video, i did not find a single pipe bomb or boomer bile at both of those areas pointed out so i had to go with molotov,
after i opened the door and went in behind the seats and realized that there was a tank in the plane, so i decided to run all the way back to where he switched to the boomer bile and just fend off everyone including the tank, and also there was a witch sitting in the river besides the boomer bile location but i didn't piss her off.
and i anyways managed to get this, that was amazing laugh

Reading the description of this achievement sounds like this would be hard & you're probably thinking "OH NO, NOT ANOTHER UNTOUCHABLES ACHIEVEMENT!" But really, this is much easier.

This is what I did: I played on single player, once I got to the airliner I opened the hatch and quickly ran up the fallen tree to the left. (The AI will usually distract the zombies while you make it to the top of the plane.)

Now, make it to the top of the plane, run to the tail and get on the end of the wing. Now this is not a glitch, this is legit, so zombies can make it to you, but since you are way up and at the edge, then nothing will come from behind you and nothing can come beside you, so all you gotta do is worry about your front.

The view from the wing is really great, so you can kill everything quite easily. Just survive without taking damage for about a minute and a half to two minutes & the achievement will unlock. At first I thought that my achievement was ruined when one of my AIs got hit by a hunter, but I still got the achievement, so I actually think that the AI or the other players on your team can get hit by infected and you can still get the achievement, unlike Untouchables. So really, this isn't as hard as it seems.

Edit: I had to clean up this and organize it. It looked horrible.

Someone may have friendly fired at you. Even if you have it on easy and you take no damage from the friendly fire, it still voids the achievement. So do not friendly fire.

I did it this way as well. The achievement pops on an individual basis, so if your teammates get hurt but you don't, you'll still get it. Likewise if you get hurt but they don't, they'll get it.

I had to play with two bots that fell off the plane halfway through and got mobbed, but my partner and I still got the cheevo since we were safe in our tree house.

This worked like a charm for me, other than a prob I had for the chieve to actually pop. Every time I did this I was careful to check my health before opening the door and made sure it stayed at that number. But the achievement wouldn't pop until I did it again offline. So heads up on this possible glitch.

Great solution. Got it on the second try, though, presumably because some of my AI friends got incapacitated by the Tank which spawned suddenly on the first try. Thought the achievement was glitched, but tried the same method again and it worked.

The achievement is known to be buggy. You still should've gotten it even if your AI went down. It's based only on you taking damage.. Unlike Untouchables from L4D1

Okay, so here is what I did for this achievement. You need to be on Swamp Fever Part 2. When you get to the Plane if you have two or three buddies playing with you and one bot you should eb just fine getting this. There are two spots that you can hide out in and miss damage.

The front of the plane and all the way to the left is one place and the place where I was and got it was in the middle of the plane. We had another person blocking the door that was on the side and the Bot was watching the backside of the plane.

So if you have two to the front, and two to the back/side you should be fine. Might have to do multiple runthroughs if you have more than one person who wants to get this, but that's how I got it on my frist runthrough.

Hope it helps. :)

'Edit'

Okay, so even though Wooberhead was wrong about me saying it was chapter 1, I was wrong for saying you get this in chapter 3. It is in Chapter 2. Otherwise everything else i've said works.

I tried this many many times with friends and never succeeded. The way I got this achievement was on single player.

First load "Swamp Fever chapter 2" on easy difficulty. Leave the safe room and head straight until you see the motorboat, check this for the Grenade Launcher. If you don't find one then there should be one a bit further on in the map, just before you get to the area with the plane there is a little shack and it may spawn leaning against that.

Anyways you now have your grenade launcher and a throwable (either a pipe bomb or boomer bile, i recommend the bile because it attracts them longer and you can easily take the group out with one shot from the launcher). Go to the hatch on the plane and make sure your ready to go, as soon as it opens head immediately to the left and climb up the fallen tree onto the roof of the plane and move directly above the hatch that you came out of but be careful not to fall, your bots will follow unless something unfortunate happens.

From this vantage point you only have to worry about your left and right and can pick off the zombies in large groups with the launcher while your bots take care of any remaining. Save your bile for the second wave. Just be patient and keep trying and you will easily get this achievement.

If your going to do this achievement with a full team make sure none of them friendly fire you. This may sound obvious but it actually doesnt have to be the whole team not taking damage, just one person. Someone on my team was hitting everyone with an axe while doing this achievement so we took friendly fire damage but it turned out that he got the achievement at the end and we didnt because he was not getting hurt but hurting everyone else. So watch out for that

like the other comments, have a partner and dont heal. once u get to the plane, theres a small space in between the seats on the far right. whoever is going for this should crouch there with a melee weapon. the AI should cover u but have ur partner cover too. it'll pop up as long as u dont get hurt

An easy way to get it without boosting with a second controller or staying in the safe room is to first load up swamp single player. Grab the shotgun in the safe room, and the boomer bile from beside the burnt down house. Make sure to not take any pills or adrenaline or anything before doing this. Near the break in the plane, by the first row of seats on the left side is a little space in between the seat and the wall. Crouch in there after you hit the alarm. The shotgun works because you can reload after every shot, making sure you never run out of ammo, and if they start swarming you throw the boomer bile outside the plane and let the AI take care of them.

I got this one tonight. There were three of us playing and one AI. The first time I tried, I was in the front where Geoff is in the video. I had one friend standing in front of me to help cover that side of the plane, and the AI and my other friend in the aisle. Unfortunately, I was backed up against the window and got attacked that way. My friend that was on that side of the plane switched spots with me as he hadn't been injured yet, and he got the achievement shortly thereafter.

The second time we tried it, I was looking out the window at the front of the plane. My other friend was facing outward to take any zombies in that direction. The guy who got the achievement the first time opened the door and stayed there to get anyone coming through the door. He got jumped by a jockey and ended up getting incapped, but I got the achievement, and so did my other buddy.

you can jump and crouch in the seats just to the left of the hatch, when i got this achievement all zombies jump up and go through the roof making it impossible to get to you...i didn't have any trouble with special infected either

i done on it single player, difficulty easy. opened the hatch and ran back from the plane quite a distance. no zombies came from behind me so just had 2 worry about the ones from the plane direction. equipped a sniper rifle and picked them off. any that get too close the computer controlled characters get them or i just equipped my 2 pistols and shoved them as well.

The second controller methods above work too, but also can be obtained by using the Mutation Gib Fest, just don't heal during the event of the hatch door being used, and then head outside to the left of the hatch door, walk along the fallen tree on the plane, and head along the top to the tail wing on the right from walking towards the tail and just use the M60 and watch out for the special infected. Good luck on this and I hope this helps!

100% no strings attached way to get this as of Oct 13 2016.

Okay, so I gave up on this award in 2013. Came back to it as of this day.

Fallowed the whole open the door and go to the corner of the isle strategy on single player. Then made a dead lobby online. Nothing. Did it over and over. Then I tried something that made some sort of sense. Made a dead lobby online, looked at the achievement and thought about what I could possibly be missing.

"A wing and a prayer" well, the name has "a wing" in the title. I did the basic strategy in a dead lobby, opened the door. Walked out onto the wing, ran back inside to the corner in the isle on easy and it finaly after all these years unlocked.

*** Even simplified version.

I don't know if it will work on single player or offline campaign.

Make a dead lobby (easy now not many people play this game anymore)

Set it to easy

(you want no one to enter the game, keep it public. Chances are no one will join)

Open the door, walk out it onto the wing and run back in

Run to that corner.

Let bots handle everything

Should unlock.

Campaign: Swamp Fever
Level 2: The Swamp

This is a lot easier than it seems. Once you get to the plane, open the door and huddle between the seats either to the right of the door or as the videos shows to the right. The AI will kill off most, if not all of the Infected so you can sit back and wait.

The AI can take damage but you must not take any, this is the same for other players. Anyone who wants to earn the achievement must not take any damage.

Check your health before you start this as if it becomes lower at any point, you will need to start over.

Completed in the Swamp Fever Campaign, Swamp Chapter
In the Swamp Fever campaign, there is a crashed plane in the second chapter.

There are fully locked doors inside. According to the plot, the survivors need to go there, and there will be no other way. After opening the doors, depressurization begins, which captures the hordes of the infected for the survivors.

To get achievements, you need to hide in reconnaissance and repel the attack of the infected. Your task is to survive all the waves without losing a single point of health. The rest can take damage. Achievement does not earn Anyone who has received at least 1 damage.

Many players fail to get this achievement. I don't know why, because there is nothing directly supernatural here. So try to get it on all difficulty levels.

Campaign: "Swamp Fever"
Level 2: Swamp
Doing this is not as difficult as it seems. Sit between the airplane seats and you will be almost safe. AI will stand in front of you and destroy the majority
infected. The main thing is to keep an eye on your lives; if their level has dropped by even one point, you can safely start all over again.

The most important thing is that YOU don’t take damage, and if the bots do, it’s okay, the achievement will still open.

Just sit between the chairs until all the waves are over, as soon as you wait out all the waves, the achievement will immediately open.
