Dead Stop

Dead Stop

Punch a Hunter as he is pouncing.

How to unlock the Dead Stop achievement in Left 4 Dead - Definitive Guide

When you see a hunter, he's gonna jump. Chances are at you if you're the pointman. Hit the LT to melee attack. Either you have great reflexes or will just get it luckily (over time like me)

* basically same as head shooting him *

If you hear a hunter it's best to just continually melee and hope that you hit him. Chances are you will.

Personally I have done this many times and it's just a matter of timing. If you see the hunter getting ready to jump just start meleeing.

Well since i can't post a solution for some reason, if you go to the No Mercy finale, kill your team mates, go to the pipe bombs, grab them, go out when you go up the stairs and you see the hall way throw the pipe bomb and run back down. Then position yourself so you can melee infected at the door but not get hit yourself and a hunter should be coming. Being a hunter it will keep pouncing at the door. So keep pressing LT until you get it. This works with the head shot achievement also.

1. Set up a No Mercy single player campaign on expert and start on the roof top finale.

2. Kill the other survivors and then change the difficulty to easy.

3. Grab the pipe bomb and head to the top of the stairs.

4. Throw the pipe bpmb and run to get the other one and repeat.

5. Wait for the hunter to show and when he does run back to the safe room and get to the back so the hunter comes right up to the door.

6. When he's at the door just keep swinging with mele until you hit him. shouldn't take long and you can do it while doing the Zombie Genosidist trick too.

For starters, I apologise for the quality of the video. It's not too good but it's a solid guide. This is not my video so credit goes to the person who made it.

As with several elements of L4D, you'll hear the Hunter long before you see the Hunter, and I'm not just talking about the scream. When a Hunter is around, the game will play three pairs of notes: the first note is a grace note and difficult to hear, making it sound like three notes instead of six. They are sounded in high, low, medium order. All three are on the high end of the keyboard, though. If the Hunter is spawned further away, these are played on strings, like in the theme from Psycho.

When you hear that sound, be ready for the Hunter. When you see a hunter jump, you won't have much time. Try to get in the habit of back pedaling immediately to get you a little more time and start throwing melee attacks. You won't always land the blow, but usually you will hit him mid pounce.

Dead Stop - 10G (Original Achievement)

This is not hard to do, but it may take some practice. I suggest you bring a friend along just in case you fail and get pounced.

The goal here is to wait for a Hunter to show up and let it get close. As soon as it pounces, hold the Left Trigger to melee it away and stop it from pouncing on you. I'd say there's a 50% chance you'll stop it.

I've heard a lot of reports that you may need to melee earlier than you might think in order to hit it. Either way practice makes perfect, you will eventually get this.

If you see a Hunter, right when he is about to pounce, just press to melee him. If you don’t succeed the first time, there are plenty of Hunters to try again. Start up the No Mercy campaign on easy difficulty on the Apartments, and once you get outside, there should be more than a few.

You need to press at the moment when the hunter flies at you, this way you will push him away from you.
