How to unlock the Zombie Genocidest achievement in Left 4 Dead - Definitive Guide

There is an easy way to get this:

Start up a campaign of No Mercy on the final chapter on EXPERT. Start by killing off your AI teammates and then grab a pipe bomb. Leave the safe room run up the stairs and into the hallway. Immediately throw a pipe bomb down the hall and then run back to the safe room. After the pipe bomb blows up run back up the stairs into the hallway. Next run back to the safe room and close the door behind you.

A boomer, smoker, and hunter should spawn. Stand a good 3 or 4 steps back from the door and rubberband your controller's left trigger down. The boomer will constantly puke on you from the stairs summoning a horde of zombies every 45 seconds. you will melee them all to death.

I rubberbanded my controller and left it on all night and got around 30k kills in one night. Did it again the 2nd night and got the achievement. Send me a msg if you have any questions :D Happy Hunting!

Note: Be sure to go all the way back to main menu before quitting to dashboard. There are reports of people losing kills while quitting to dashboard from the loading screen.

*Still works as of November 2013*

Definitely the best solution as of 5/21/24, just be aware the game tends to bug out the longer your session is. To explain, my first attempt I ran my XSX for 8 hours, got 20,000 kills. Wanted to bank those and give my Xbox a break, so I finished the level, and as the helicopter circled, my game froze. Pain. Lost all those kills. Second try figured I’d do it all in one session. I was at 10k kills, left it on overnight. When I woke up in the morning the saferoom door was invisible. The Boomer was invisible. Common Infected, survivor’s bodies, guns, literally everything except map geometry was invisible. Even at that interactables were missing such as ladders. I checked my kills and had 44k. Could not afford to lose those. I cautiously finished the finale again this time entering an invisible helicopter, halfway expecting it to freeze up. It didn’t, and I got the kills saved. If you’re over 10k kills and have a modern console it can be done in one (expect 12-14 hour) session. Wouldn’t try it on a 360 given the consoles are a little antiquated by now and may freeze up somewhere along the way.

For all people complaining, these kills take forever. I've gotten all except like 5 or 6 and I'm only at 15k, so this is awesome.

This is perfect, I would try it out before you put the rubberband on so you can get the distance just right. Also I hit the guide buttons and went into the properties to turn my controller vibration off so that the controller didn't get hurt and the band wouldn't come off :P

Yes, it works...did a few thousand each night and had it before too long. I found that standing slightly to the left side while facing the door allowed the Boomer to always see/hit you from the stairs.

And make sure that you're not too close to the door, as some enemies will get an occasional lucky hit here and there and whittle down your health. It may take a little trial and error, but it DOES work.

Im having issues with this one!

Im doing it in 2 Hour bursts in my spare time, Yet i kept losing my kills and it was random to!

If for example i started on 6000 Kills and got 7500 Kills, i would get myself killed (as recommened above) to save my progress.

But when it came to restart, i was on 6800 Kills :S How does that work out?

Wow JMJimmy. You will not RROD your system by doing this technique. If your system fails while playing halo 3 do you tell everyone that halo 3 causes the RROD? It was just a coincidence. My 360 stays on for days at a time all the time and no problem. My 360 is hardly ever off.

@Turonel Two systems in a row can handle Gears of War (Party Like it's 1999 achievement) running all night and RROD on this one. It maybe coincidence but it's also fairly taxing on the hardware since you have ~30 enemies (4 unique types) on screen in a tight area (ie: lots of collision detection going on) + lots of blood effects + the barf & smoker effects every 30 seconds. At the very least it's going to run your system hot which is the cause behind RROD (melting solders)

Might be my own system or connection. But in all respects This method did not work for me. at around 300-500 kills is would disconnect me from the server (too bad its not L4D2 with local server option).
And further more I agree with Brum. Rediculous that we have to pay 2x for the SAME DLC!!!! Valve thought you were okay till this little stunt. Want to send a shout-out to anyone who got this legit. But also in agreement with Roland and Brum again. Was at 46,000+ and then update erased my progress. Not worth the time to NOT boost this one. And one last thing Brum. With the new system not game updates all chievoes are added to your list if you bought the DLC or not.

Worked perfectly. Set it up before I left for work today(7am) and the achievement popped on xbox.com by 1pm. I needed about 17k after finishing every other achievement and plenty of playing just for fun. Love this game but 53595 is just excessive.
Won't be home for another 4 hours, so I guess poor old Louis is going to be pointlessly killing another 12-15k zombies for no reason before I get home.

Great solution. Thanks.

This still works as off 28/03/11. Got 20,000 kills in 7 hours. Even if the boomer moves and you don't see him anymore, he wil still vomit on you through the wall. It might take him an extra few seconds to vomit on you if you can't see him.

Just tried the solution today April 7th 2011 using a wired controller with this method and it would not work for me. After 5 mins of non activity I got "Connection to server has been lost" and got booted to the main menu. tried several times and kept getting the same message so this must have been patch this week seeing that my friend just got this last week.

I can verify as of May 15th, 2011 this technique does still work, though it did get a couple of tries before the spawning of the special infected to occur correctly for this achievement to work as described.

What I found worked for me was after killing the bots, deploying the pipe bomb and going back to the safe room, I waited for the Smoker and Hunter to come down the stairs with the door closed. I killed both (good time for the Jumpshot achievement if you don't have it already), then ran back up the stairs and the Boomer was waiting in the hallway. After running back down, he followed me but the horde's natural spawning cycle occured at the same time and kept him from coming totally down the stairs. Once inside with the door shut, I positioned myself as far left as I could go (the Boomer bile was knocking me out of position as he threw up so this helped steady me) and backed up as far as I could, making sure I was only hitting the infected that were right against the door, NOT the whole group at the same time. It took longer to do, but any closer and the Boomer can hit you and do damage and occasionally the Smoker and Hunter do as well if they manage to hit you at just the right point in your melee. By positioning myself far left, I also noticed the Boomer did spend a majority of his time on the landing before the landing facing the door, so he came to the door only very, very occasionally.

I noticed a wave of zombies every 45 to 47seconds that took about 20-35 seconds to knock down, depending on the volume of zombies and if the special infected managed to work their way to the front of the group. The Boomer did occasionally wander down the stairs and get knocked back to his position on the stairs. I can't be sure, but I do think I did manage to hit him enough where he died, though the waves of infected still come every 90 seconds or so (the in-game cycle) and another Boomer did eventually come again and the cycle repeated. When I was done, I didn't just log out, I completed the level so I could make sure I kept my kills.

For those who want a reference so they can try and duplicate where I was standing, I stood far left, facing the stairs... The bar just below the "exit" sign on the door was lined up so the bottom corner of the bar was almost exactly at the halfway point (or a straight line from the nose) of the on-screen skull for player 3 (the player furthest to the right, not counting you), and the very bottom edge of said bar and point was just barely, barely on the very top of the on-screen skull. Also, the railing for the stairs was exactly at the bottom right corner of the door's window and through the exact middle the intersection where the middle horizontal bar of the window intersects with the vertical bar that is second over from the furthest right vertical bar. The upper part of the railing went almost perfectly into the upper right corner of the open window as well. So from my angle, the railing made a visual triangle with the right side of the door's open window.
I did not do this until the achievement unlocked... I have over the course of normal playing killed about 42k of infected but somehow my counter was reset, so I did it only to get back to the level I was at before the mysterious reset that undid all the work I'd done since launch (so... 3 years of work?). However, I did over the time I did this go from 247 kills to over 37k.

I will say, make sure you remember to shut off the vibrate on the controller. I didn't and since it took me awhile to get set up the way that worked, I didn't want to go and tinker with the settings so I had to cram the controller between pillows on the couch to keep from hearing it go off for 8 hours.

I tried this last night, and I got myself up to around 18k kills. So I figured I would save these kills for now and carry on with them later. So I carried on with the level going all the way up to the top of the ladder and killing myself by jumping off, then quit back to the main menu. And now today I go back onto the game and find its gone back down to 8k kills.

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFF WHY DID THIS FUCKING HAPPEN? Thought quitting to the main menu works :/

This stills works GREAT !!! Did it last night went from 20,ooo killed to 53,000. I left my new slim xbox on 10hrs and killed 33,000 using this solution. If you have older boxes leave on for shorter times maybe don't risk burn out. Make sure get position right 1st attempt died within hr. re-positioned checked bck after watching tv 2 hrs. Left over night.

Also you must have wired controller or plug and play charge kit.
Amazon has Charge Kit for $14.99 not a bad price to pay.

I am using this right now and it works really well. For those like me who only have a wireless controller, you obviously need to keep the controller active. I found the easiest way to do this is quickly push the crouch button (LB) twice every 10-15 minutes. It is easier than moving the joystick because you can be sure that you are still exactly on target.

Also, make sure to save(exit to main menu) semi-frequently. Don't be stupid like me and try to get ALL 53,000 in one sitting. I checked a few times, went up to 22,000--then 34,000. Next thing I see is the damn Valve logo, and I get bumped back down to 6,000. So...Don't forget that!

I don't know if it's L4D or xbox being broken. I keep getting randomly put back to the main site and it states "a sign in change has occurred". I think it's from going afk for so long or something. I have no idea why it's doing it but it puts me at the main screen but i'm still connected to live. I assume it's from going full idle or it's part of one of the updates to prevent idling and I assume it'd stop if I removed the updates but to lazy and sick of it resetting my stats :P. Going to just tap A every now and then and it works fine when I do that.

Sometimes I can get it rigged up to the point that it appears to be working, but I check back in a half hour and the Boomer has moved to an area where his vomit isn't hitting me anymore. Most of the case though I can't get the boomer to stay at a distance. He'll just come down to the door with the rest of the zombies and starting hitting me and my rubber-banded controller melees him a few times until he dies and the whole thing stops.

Am I missing something or doing anything wrong?

FYI, this method did eventually work for me but it was a bit hit or miss and I had to do it several times. I had to keep moving so that the Boomer would be barely within my vision at the top of the stairs, kind of moving to the side so only his arm and part of his face was visible. Eventually I'd get it so that I could rubber band the controller and leave it, but a few times I'd wake up the next day to find somehow the boomer moved and wasn't vomiting on me anymore. Still, after a few tries, I did eventually rack up the kills. Thanks for the guide!

I did this for around 10 hours today and i was up from 181000 to 35000 the last time I checked on it (about half way through) but I left for the rest and when I got back I noticed the intro cutscene was playing so I figured the game ended somehow, I checked the achievement tracker and all my progress is gone! WTF!

Still works 12/08/13. Thanks for the tip, I like grinding for some achievements but this one I could not bring myself to do, was only up to 10,000 kills after attaining every other achievement in the game.
People really shouldn't vote negative for something that isn't cheating and is saving you mindless hours of replaying the same thing over & over.

Did this last night, took a couple goes to get it just right I.e. getting boomer to come to the stairs, but with boomer on the stairs barfing on me I got a horde about every 45 seconds I stood just to left of door rubber banded mêlée trigger and left it.
P.S I used wired controller

I was about 30000 kills before doing this and from approx. 1 am till 7am I got the kills needed over 20000+ kills in six hours pretty good going

Give this a go I would have got it far quicker, easily doable over couple of nights.
Thumbs up from me......thanks

This still works as of 2019.
If you're playing on Xbox One just plug in the controller via USB and it should still stay on.

Another tip i have is that taping or rubber banding your triggers could ruin the springs in the triggers making them loose so what i would recommend is to change controller preset in the settings to "Config 3" which moves the melee button to RB and then you can just tape down the RB button and leave it on for the night until you earn the achievement.

@HungryNic42 you should go to Settings > Power & startup > Don't turn off automatically. I also recommend you to connect your controller to a USB cable to avoid it turning off.

I'm doing this cheevo on Crash Course Finale over the top of the other generator (by the wall) and I think this method is a lot easier than this one, because you dont depend on Boomers. There's a guide from @Cheezy Cheezes here on TA.

Worked fine for me as of last night, post-update. Make sure you do a Single Player game and not creating a lobby on a server, because a server will consider you "idle" if your controller state doesn't change for a few moments (but a local, single player game won't care).

Also, as noted above (by Turonel A47), make sure you have the distance right. I recommend getting boomed on, then backing up several steps and inching forward until you find the point where you just start hitting zombies. Too close, and the boomer *will* reach through and claw you in between your melees. Watch the game for a few minutes before leaving it, to make sure you're not getting clawed.

(My first night's attempt only got me a couple thousand kills before the boomer must've clawed me to death, as I woke the next morning to find my character with the rest of the AI alive and healthy in the safe room waiting to move.)

I joined this website JUST because I read this guide. VERY NICELY DONE. My control and xbox are working its magic right now.
WORKING AS OF: June 24, 2009

Tips if this is not working for you:
You must stand in the HALLWAY! Throw the pipebomb DOWN the hallway.
After that, run back to the safe room, stand inside then run back into the hallway, turn around, run back into the saferoom and close the door.
Now you etheir:
a) Have the Boomer && Smoker (didn't see a hunter)
or
b) Just see a Smoker

In b)'s case, just kill the Smoker through the saferoom door (use a weapon) then run out back into the hallway again and run back.
This should make the boomer see you.
Restart if it did not work.

P.S. Heal after you see the boomer!!!!
P.S.S. You can stand farther away from the door & melee and still kill them EXPERIMENT.
P.S.S.S. Seriously? Rubber band the controller.

i would just like to say a big F*CK YOU to valve!
53,595 zombies is a stupid and unfun ammount to kill, this is not dead rising! (its not even original in that sense)
so i have to grind this out? damaging both my console and pad in the process?
maybe i would have, BUT the latest patch for this game just reset my zombie kill count to 1...
i have completed all the campaigns and have only killed 1 zombie? i don't think so
furthermore i will not be paying an additional 560MSP to play the sacrifice on L4D when i have already paid for it on L4D2 - thats 1020MSP to play the SAME DLC twice?
it also took the liberty of adding the DLC cheevos to my list when i havent even bought it and then i look on here and find that some of the SACRIFICE cheevos don't even work!?
crappy coding, lack of play testing, ridiculous pricing scheme...
NOT TO MENTION IT'S FREE ON STEAM - ABSOLUTE RIP-OFF - F*CK YOU VALVE!

Does not seem to work anymore, after a while, or more like one round of infected, even though the boomer hits you with vomit and more infected appear, they stop counting towards your total. You can then try shooting them or the boomer, and eventually you get wave after wave of infected anyway due to waiting around, but the melee thing stops registering kills and well it gets kind of boring if you actually have to shot and reload.

works as of 7/8/11. here's exactly what i did:

- change difficulty to expert
- kill teammates with a shotgun + grab a pipe bomb
- run up the stairs (melee'ing any zombies along the way), walk a little bit into the hallway and toss the pipe bomb
- run back to safehouse, don't close the door
- run back up the stairs a little into the hallway, wait 3-4 seconds, rush back to safehouse
- close the door and position yourself a few steps back. when you can't hit them, inch yourself forward until you can barely hit them. this ensures you wont take random damage.

taped down my lt with tape, let it sit there. watched tv and hit the jump button every now and then to make sure the controller doesn't go off. kills racked up, then i just hit start and quit and the kills were there at the menu. just make sure the kills are going up in the achievements list in the menu and you'll be fine

I had a weird little mistake all night. Somehow, after I turned my TV off, my reticule moved down enough so I wasn't hitting the zombies but I was getting vomited on all night. Now that I moved it back up and am killing the zombies, the boomer has stopped vomiting, but an infinite stream of zombies are running up to the door at super speed and waiting to be killed. Very strange!

Just as update for what I had to do. At first the boomer came as did a smoker and hunter... I killed them all and accidentally got the boomer too. Boomer never spawned for 5 mins, til I killed 3 smokers and 2 hunters... I got them to respawn after running back up the steps and right back down after hitting the hallway. Worked on the 3rd try, killed smoker and hunter and boomer has been on the steps for the last hour and a half, puking every 30 seconds... I have over 5k kills in under two hours. Absolutely genius!!!!!

This is what i did, after the crash course dlc came out. You can also get the littlest genocide achievement on the way too. Using this method i racked up almost 2000 kills in an hour, and is i think way faster than the boomer trick in No Mercy. Just keep in mind you can only do this with the Crash Course dlc.

1. first I signed in 2 controllers in the main menu.(my account and then you can sign in just a guest.)

2. go into split screen versus, and choose crash course truck depot FINALE. Have your account as a survivor and the guest account as infected.

3. First, kill all other survivors.(Note: you can do this either in the beginning of the level or wait to kill them when you reach the generator. personally i just killed them in the beginning, just to get more kills through the level and also to keep all 4 health packs by the generator at the end of the level, otherwise they will take the packs if you choose to kill them by the generator.) anyways proceed through the level as you normally would until you get to the generator. as for the other controller, DO NOT spawn as an infected. This makes things alot easier to where you can just rack up kills without worrying about specials. just let the contoller sit there beside you.

4. Once you get to the generator and stocked up on health and ammo by the truck, only restart the generator ONCE ONLY, after that camp out at he other generator that is by the warehouse. (see video if youre unsure where this is) Now once you start the generator, 2 tanks will spawn, but do not worry, because the other controller is what is controlling the tanks. so when the spawn, grab the controller and take the tank over to where you are so that you can kill it without it attacking. you HAVE to do this rather quickly since you will notice that the controller will lose control of the tank if it does not attack within a certain time limit, but its plenty of time once you get the hang of it. do this for both tanks. after that the game will say to restart the generator. DO NOT do it. just camp at your corner and kill the horde that come to you. This is where you really rack up on kills. Each horde will consist of about 25-30 zombies and will come about every ten seconds, which gives you time to restock on ammo and health by the truck in front of you if you need. just keep doing this until you nab the achievement.

i put up a link to a video to show what im talking about camping on top of the other generator. Notice how the zombies don't attack from your left side, They come around and try to climb the right side only. This funneling of zombies will make it easier to not get hit. Just shoot them and while you reload, melee to keep them off the generator. Once you get the hang of it, you wont need health for awhile, but if you do its in front of you by the truck.

Saved me alot of time. hope this helps. credit for the video goes to cbkste.

Semi-idle boosting works here by holding an assault rifle (I got hit too much with pistols, didn't try the other rifles) and holding down the left trigger...occasionally you'll get punched, but on easy, it's only 1 damage. It's been a very handy spot so far while working on homework. Every 30 minutes or so, I check to see how my health looks and use a heal if needed.

No longer works, when you get to end of the level in versus mode, the generator doesn't turn off for you to restart. It stays on until the car descends and so it doesn't work.

I do remember finding this same solution on my own, but I did it solo on easy.

If I remember well, once you powered the generator and killed your teamates, you can use the spot to take down the hunter and smoker on your own.
Once the boomer is down too, and if your IA teamates are dead (not just downed), the trio doesn't respawn, and the Tank doesn't appear as well, so you can melee the waves of infected without interruption after the generator is off.

This method only works if you have the Crash Course DLC (and a 2nd controller)

This was the easiest method I found to get the kills quickly without actually having to play or tape down buttons etc... You just have to leave your xbox on for a few hours. Obviously you can also get
Left 4 DeadThe Littlest GenocideThe The Littlest Genocide achievement in Left 4 Dead worth 70 pointsKill 5,359 Infected in the Crash Course campaign.

Load up a versus match on the Crash Course finale, with yourself on the survivors and your second controller infected. Just rush through to the generator section with your main profile. Now you want to practice climbing the generator a few times. You just have to stand under the light bulbs and jump up the pole. Keep jumping until the bulbs/light itself is at eye level.

Once you can confidently climb the generator, turn the power on and get climbing. Your second controller will soon be given control of the tank, ensure you walk it over to the survivors and get killed before you lose control. This will happen once more before the generator dies.

Jump down when it's as clear as possible and re-start the generator, and get climbing again (quickly!). Now the 2nd controller will be given a tank again, this time go and kill the AI survivors, who by this stage should be in the back of the van. Once they are dead just stand the tank near enough to your main profile, so you don't lose control.

Now the horde will just continously spawn and attempt to attack you, if you are positioned correctly ( you may have to play around with this a little bit, dead center seems to be best) they will fall over as they try and climb towards you, although you aren't killing them, they do count towards the achievement. Now just put your controller down and go to sleep or watch TV or whatever (watch the screen for a while just to make sure you aren't being hit). I'd estimate about 6 or 7 hours maximum, it may actually be much much quicker than that.

isn't the player/controller go idle after a few minutes? If that's the case, the "idle" survivor can fall down from the generator pole without you notice to the ground.

Yeah! Hey Lafta good guide! I remember one guy had a video of this guide. It was nice...Let me know if you want me to do a YouTube for you, and give you full credit in the video. For this you definately want to do one of those classic Local Split Screen Games. Then when you get on generator you can even just pause the game if you want, and the infected still die...Good stuff!

This is WAY the best solution, I have no wired or play and charge controllers, both my controllers went idle, I unplugged them actually! Left it on at night.. turned off the TV. This WORKS!! And here's exactly how fast--unless there's something real goofy between different boxes, you should get the number of kills i did--I timed it twice. 4 hours = ~13,000 kills, a little less than 8 hours = 25,500 kills. Just make sure you stay connected to the internet, as I had mine reset once the first time I did this.. took two tries, two nights. :-)

Up vote - great solution, thank you.

I can confirm that this still works, with all updates, as of 19th December 2013.

My advice:
* I did not kill my team straight away. I waited until I got close to the generator area. This way you can get through the level much easier, and avoid the risk of dying and having to set everything up again.

* When in position above the generator, make sure that the zombies are actually trying to climb up to reach you. I found that moving slightly to the right was the best bet, as when I was dead centre the zombies did not seem to want to climb up.

Overall, I would say this is a very easy and painless way to get the achievement!

Zombies can now easily climb the pole to the top, I've tried it in multiple areas, and still they climb up, and attack with ease.

Se Sir Lumbo's comment, it still works!

Pretty sure there hasn't been a patch on this game for a long time and this isn't a widespread method. Most people use that safe room/boomer bile method.

Just a note, since it took me a few minutes to realize, you have to climb the generator from the front pole, the same front side where the switch to turn it on is, not jumping on the more obvious wider back part of it and then trying to climb higher.

This works really well for sure!

Although it could be you just didn't position right.. it's been a long time, but don't you need them climbing the pole so you can melee them?

This works like gangbusters. Also, if you spawn as a Boomer after the Tanks, you can get into position and puke on the survivor to draw more Infected in. Just a tip, don't do this in offline system link. I lost 10,000 kills when I had signed back into Live even though I had finished the level. In any case, great guide. This is definitely the fastest way to get the kills.

Chapters by kills-

No Mercy- 550+
Death Toll- 650+
Dead Air- 800+
Blood Harvest- 500+
Crash Course- 250+
The Sacrifice- 300+ (I just noticed it said "The Passing" Sorry about that.)

[EDIT:] This is based off of three playthroughs for each map and I rounded them together.

Dead Air is the best choice for kills because it has more moments that cause more zombies, such as metal detectors and stuff.

Ok here's what I did. It appears to be the fastest way to get this achievement. I read what peeps above me wrote and i did a mix of all. I'll try to make it clear as possible. Here's the steps:
1.) Play expert on No Mercy Rooftop Finale

2.) Once game starts kill other survivors

3.) Pick up a pipe bomb (and maybe auto shotgun to kill close up)

4.) Go upstairs and throw the pipe bomb down the hall about half way.

5.) Go back to safe room and get the other pipe bomb and repeat step 4.

6.) Run back into the safe room and shut the door

7.) Wait until you see the smoker and hunter that spawn and kill them, but NOT the boomer.

8.) Sit back far enough away from the door so the boomer can't claw you, but can vomit on you.

9.) Face the bars on the door and rubber-band the Left trigger on your controller down so you continuously melee the bars of the door.

10.) Finally just chill. The boomer will vomit on you every 45 seconds or so and a horde of about 15 will show up. Basically by the time you melee the horde to death, the boomer will vomit again bringing more to you. And as long as you don't leave the room the smoker and hunter shouldn't reappear but they have on me before, so just kill them again and they shouldn't come back.

***Be sure to check it periodically because the boomer may move to a bad spot and unable to vomit you or something else may happen. I tried leaving it running all night and get the achievement that way but when I checked it in the mourning i was on the start menu and lost ALL my kills and was back at 10,000. Even though your character is swinging away the game thinks your not playing after so long of repetitive actions. So just move your player around every few hours or so and you wont run into that problem. Plus you may want to quit to main menu after you get a lot of kills so it saves where your at. I got it done from about 10,000 kills in around 16 hours of doing this method if you wondering. You get about a couple thousand every 30 min. If any questions message me and I'll try and help out. Hope this helps yall : )

the easiest way to get this legit is to go to the sacrifice go to the last level and go to the bridge but DON"T RAISE IT, there will be infinite horde and special infected spawn, but no tank and they bottle neck. I got about 600+ kills from just doing this. hope this helps
EDIT:I got 906 kills in 22 minutes so if this is a faster way give me a positive

There are two GREAT ways to get this, and a few longer ways. My first suggestion is:

No Mercy Finale: Play on expert, and kill your teammates. Then switch it back to easy and clear the hallway above. Now go back to the saferoom, stand a foot or so away from the door, and melee. You can also use your play and charge kit + a rubberband and work on this overnight.

Second suggestion:

Survival Mode: You can download survival mode free off of the marketplace. For those who don't know what survival mode is a mode where endless zombies attack you. So start up a game with bots and play. Since you are playing with bots, you won't last a long time, so use all your healthpacks and molotovs/pipe bombs early to take out the zombies! You can probably get a few hundred every ten minutes or so. This can also be done with friends online- but if you are going for survival mode time don't use all your equipment right away ;).

Third Suggestion(Mediocre one, the first two were the best):

Play the finales over and over. Each finale only last fifteen minutes or so, usually less, and you can easily net around 100 kills in this time. Just play like you normally would, except die before going in the rescue vehicle. Stay out and fight, so you can net extra kills then restart the levelw ithout going back to the menu. The best levels for this would be Dead Air or No Mercy.

I was playing earlier, and found a somewhat of a solution to the achievement.

Start a single player campaign. You're going to do No Mercy on Expert, on the rooftop finale. Once it loads up, grab a shotgun and kill off your fellow survivors. Expert makes them killable in 2 or 3 hits, so just start on there. You can now boot up the start menu and call a vote to change the difficulty to easy. You may need to change back if you end up messing up, which I found easy to do. Grab a pipebomb, shoot any zombies blocking you to the top of the steps. Chuck the pipebomb down the hallway. It'll kill all those zombies, and should trigger an attack/swarm, along with a Smoker, Hunter and Boomer. Go in the safe room and shut the door. Kill off all the common infected, and the Smoker and Hunter. Now, all you have left is a Boomer who will vomit on you, causing successive infected attacks.
The trick is to have the Boomer either not or barely visible, as shown in this picture:
External image

Just make sure you're just close enough to the ammo to be able to restock without moving and you should be golden.
It may take several tries. Sometimes the boomer comes up all the way the door and tries to smack you. Kill it, and new special infected will spawn eventually. All you do is wait for the swarm to show up, and blast the pump shotgun like four times across the door to wipe them all out. Rinse and repeat many, many times.
I found the majority of my swarms to be 28 common infected, and sometimes 27. It'll still take a long time to get this achievement either way. It's very boring to use the same method for so long, but it can help a little. Hope this helps.

I'm currently on 26,000 kills and bored out of my mind. :P

I got this achievement by playing The Sacrifice. My father discovered this trick and by using it we got between 2k-6k zombie kills per hour.

1) Load The Sacrifice Chapter 3 on easy or normal in single player

2) Play normally. Activate the generators and kill the tanks. Take an M16, Pipe Bomb, another pistol and a Med-Kit. Scout the area for more Pipe Bombs, Med-kits, Pills, gas cans and ammo. There should be ammo and Med-kits near the generator in the courtyard.

3) When the bridge lowers DO NOT RAISE IT! Raising it will cause tanks to spawn and your fun is over. Crouch down with the M16 and kill the never-ending hordes of standard infected that swarm you. If you placed gas cans, ignite them to save ammo. Special Infected will spawn and try to kill you so keep an eye out for them.

4) When getting ammo, use the duel pistols and watch for the Specials (you can stun unters in mid-pounce with a well timed melee) they will tongue/pounce you if they can and the AI on the bridge are reluctant to leave to help. Boomers aren't an issue if you can kill them fast enough. If there are more Pie Bombs nearby, use the one you've got to make this step easier. After restocking run back to the bridge and repeat.

Tips: Only heal if your health is yellow.
Pain pills when your heath is red, the AI will heal you
Burst-fire the M16 to save ammo and be the most accurate.
The AI will eventually run out of primary and be forced to use their pistols, more kills for you as the range is shorter.
I played Zoey as Bill and Louis are Special killing machines.

I hope the guide helps.

give this a try.
1) start the no mercy finale
2) play as usual with friends or alone your choice of difficulty
3) once you summon the rescue vehicle, go into the jesus room
4) go into the left corner facing the doorway and go idle
5) after a few seconds this will then teleport you back to the safe room!

a friend and i basically just grabbed two sniper rifles and picked off any and all infected that came down the hall. you do get more kills while doing this alone. and since the a.i. cant make their way back, its unlimited kills for you! (however long you last). now you will get tanks and other specials but luckily you can do this on easy and save hours of frustration.

ALSO!: if you have trouble teleporting, try turning the flashlight off or looking down. if this has been patched in any way please let me know.

Ok, first things first. This is not a solution, its an important note.

After more than 3 years since release of the game i had built up my killcount up to about 38k kills in a legit way. But i recently cleared the chache of my harddrive in the Xbox system settings.

Besides removing updates (on any game), this reseted the ingame kill counter. So i have to start all over again. Other ingame counters are effected on ths too by the way.

Just wanted you to know.

Here's a solution I learned from the various solutions above me.

Make sure to have a second controller for this. Have your second controller be the infected.

Start Versus mode on the Crash Course level on Depot Finale and make it to the generator. Grab a weapon (preferably an assault rifle since it's more accurate) and another pistol so you have 2.

As the human player, survive until the generator blows out. Make sure to guide your Tank 2nd controller toward the survivors so they can kill it.

When the generator dies, run over and restart it and immediately begin jumping up the front of the generator until your right under the light. You'll be high enough up so that it will take the horde awhile to reach you.

Now here's the crucial part: The Tank (your second controller) will need to be near a survivor or else it will turn into an AI Tank. Have your Tank placed behind the generator so that the bar won't go down. As long as you don't get off the generator the bar won't go down.

Your AI partners will end up being inside of the truck so if you wish to kill them quickly with your Tank by attacking the side of the escape vehicle for the Wipefest achievement then go ahead but the survivors shouldn't be a burden since they'll be sitting in the truck.

Now use your pistols and just keep hammering away at the zombies as they come. They will attack one and a while if your not fast enough but they only do 1-2 damage.

I made the mistake of jumping off the generator to grab more assault rifle ammo when I didn't need it and I died from both the horde and the AI Tank.

In about 5 minutes I managed to net about 200-300 kills using the pistols so it won't take long if your about 10k-15k left.

You can always try the Dead Air campaign. I don't remember which safe room it is, but one of them has a boomer inside. Now if you have a friend or a 2nd controller, have them go into the safe room with the boomer and close the door. Have him go up the ladder and all the way in the back right. The boomer will follow but he can't harm the other player. Now facing the safe room door on the outside, go left and crouch in the corner right next to the door. Every 15-20 seconds I had a group of about 20 run in towards the door. They rarely ran after me. The boomer will puke on the player spawning a group of zombies that will want to attack him. There will also be random groups of zombies that will run to the door. I don't remember if the ammo is inside the safe room or around the corner to your right. If it is in the safe room, only go and get it once you have killed the group of zombies. Quickly open the door, grab ammo, and close the door and go back in your corner. I believe it is a faster method then the No Mercy finale safe room, but it requires you to be active.

There is an alternative method to the boomer glitch mentioned by Turonel A47. It may not be as effective because there isn't a boomer constantly attracting zombies but it is easier to set up.

Follow as I do in my video. (and do a better job of staying alive) sorry about the bad quality of the video

Playing through the entire game on Easy should net you quite a few kills. Good thing the game has tons of re-playability because it should take you quite a few play-throughs to achieve this goal. It’s cumulative, so you don’t have to get this all in one sitting.

During each 'movie', I got about 1k kills with 3 other players on Normal. Playing on Easy would ensure you would get more. If you die and start the chapter over, all the kills you got prior to dying will still count towards the achievement.

There's a little trick for helping you faster, though. See the video below.

It's easier to do in company - "No Mercy" in the last chapter.

First, we set the difficulty to expert, kill the bots so as not to interfere, then set it back to easy difficulty, take the grenade and leave the shelter, go up the stairs, walk a little forward along the corridor and throw the grenade further into the passage, after that, wait for the Fat Man to appear , if other special infected appear first, then simply kill them, and as soon as the fat man appears, immediately run back to the shelter and wait for him to go down the stairs, then open the door and expose him to vomit on you, like As soon as he does this, immediately run back into the shelter and close the door behind you.

And start shooting zombies through the window in the door.
When you shoot zombies, be careful not to hit the Fat Man.
And so many times.

Watch the video at 2:37 minutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doiQJs117gI

Also keep in mind that in addition to the fat man, another special infected may appear, so before running out of the shelter, look around the door and listen to the sounds, if in addition to the grunting of the fat man you hear the sounds of another infected, then be extremely careful when leaving shelters.

There is also another way.

If you have the DLC - "Fatal Flight" - in the chapter where you need to activate the generator, after activating the generator, run in the opposite direction to the building where the same generator stands in the corner, jump on it and start shooting enemies.

Once you have survived all the waves and you need to move on, don’t go anywhere, stay sitting on the generator and continue shooting zombies.

But first, kill the bots so they don't bother you.
After you kill your bots, start killing zombies with a simple blow of the butt - LT button.

By hitting the butt, you will repel zombies and kill them at the same time.

The longest achievement in the game! It's better to farm on the 1st "No Mercy" campaign. Activate all alarms, expose yourself to fat people, etc. In one run you can score about 500-600 kills! Complete the first campaign 70 -90 times and the achievement is yours. It will take about 50 hours of play.
