The easiest way to unlock the Higher Orbit achievement is when working through the last races on the third map, Hauntsborough.
One of the last races you'll need to complete in order to enter the Hauntsborough Grand Brick Arena is High Stakes against Baron Von Rose. As you approach the race, Von Rose will ask you to complete a quest for him before he will race you.
The quest requires you to collect a bunch of bats. Once you collect a bat, it'll cause you to float through the air but slowly lose altitude; you need to get each bat to the collection point without touching the floor.
During this, you float through the air slowly, so hold X and turn while traveling and you'll unlock this without any trouble because you're not using a jetpack.

Hey guys if you're like me and didn't get this achievement on that Hauntsborough quest like the other guide I have the solution for you!
What you need is the off road vehicle "Justa Plane Truck" equipped go on top of any high place and drive off hold X and turn, this vehicle helps you spin so much and makes it a piece of cake! Hope this was helpful

Great solution! Easy spot to do it is the Silent Ridge Garage in Hauntsborough (first one you unlock there). The garage is on top of a huge ridge. Jump off going through the Shocking Dive On-The-Go mission so if you miss you can just hit restart and be back at the top of the hill.

A couple recommendations for this achievement is to use the Justa Plane Truck, which unlocks through story progression. Additionally, it can be helpful to use the double jump perk, but these aren't required!
Head to the silent ridge garage in Hauntsborough and drive off the cliff next to the On-The-Go challenge (make sure you don't drive through the start gate or you will get a batpack, which negates this achievement) While in the air rotate your car to do spins and remember to use your jump(s) to maintain height and finish your rotations. Another option is to use the Airport Runway at the Big Butte County where you have at the end of the runaway a ramp jump that will allow you to fly in the air and higher.
You also need to unlock first the Jest PLane Truck (during story mode)
1. Go to Bug Butte County
2. Locate the Airport (South East, near to the World Challenge / Story Trophy race)
3. Change your setting and disable the "Automatic Transformation" in the Menu> Game Play > Off Automatic Transformation. (Because by default it will use the main race car since it is a main road). By disabling it, you will be able to select the Jesta Plane Truck.
4. Once you selected the Jesta PLane Truck, just race forward the runaway using the boost nearly end of the track to fly higher.
5. While in the air rotate your car using Left Stick and also holding SQUARE button (to rotate quicker).
You should be able to unlock this, the inconvenient if you fail, you need to drive back a bit up to the airport again but it is still ok as not far. You might need to get used to the rotation at first so you will probably unlock it after 3-4 tries.
Remember to use the SQUARE button to rotate quicker, at the beginning I did not think about it and just used the left stick and never worked because to slow to rotate.

It's still random, I wasn't so lucky. If it doesn't pop up on its own, take a helicopter, remove the automatic transport change in the settings, go to the airfield and accelerate along the ramp, spin in the air, it popped up in 1 try
