To gain the achievement simply build 50 build-its throughout any part or mode of the game.
A build-it is a cluster of Lego bricks which is build-able into a item, usually a object or vehicle. The bricks in a build-it usually jump around slightly on the ground.
To build a build-it approach a build-it and hold the 'B' button.

This is a very easy achievement. All you need to do is progress through the game building everything you can. It can be obtained fairly quickly.
UPDATE: To answer Numpty's question (see other solution), they do not need to be different build-its; any and all build-its count towards the achievement.

I dont think they have to be different build-its, so every time you play a level on free play, build everything you can and the achievement will pop very soon.
