How to unlock the Pieces of Eight achievement in LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game - Definitive Guide

While this is pretty easy once you get all the stud multipliers (since you end up with x7680) a good easy place to farm studs if you need it is right at the beginning of Port Royal. There is an area behind silver bricks near the crank you need to use a blacksmith on which yields about 35,500 without any multipliers. If you've got all the multipliers that's 272 million right there. More than a quarter of the way with one room.

And if you do have all the multipliers you may as well finish the mission since you'll be able to get around 900 million studs fairly easily on this or really on any mission. Also remember that you don't have to finish the mission to get the studs. Whenever you feel you have enough you can save and exit to take what you've got and run in true pirate fashion. (Thanks to rebus01 for suggesting I include this idea)

For your convenience I'm copying the locations of the stud multipliers and the treasure magnet into this guide from MissJaded's guide for the "You may throw my hat" achievement. All credit for the following goes to her.

Treasure Magnet:
Price: 225,000
Description: Studs will be magnetically drawn to you as you walk by them.
Location: In the main port area, you will see a ladder leading away from the main level select area into the water. Swim towards the screen to find a beach in the left area. Build the golden blocks on this beach area and then destroy them to make the hat appear.

Double Treasure:
Price: 600,000
Description: For example if you have no multiplier then Double adds 2x. If you have 4x with double then it's 8x. If you have 4x and 6x it's 48x instead of 24x.
Location: Take the left Gold Port Gate. Should be the first thing on your right when you walk through if you have enough Gold Bricks to unlock the Left Gate. You will find two cannons above the entrance immediately when you walk in. Use the cannons to shoot the targets. You have to use a torch to light them.

Treasure 2x:
Price: 500,000
Description: Adds a times two multiplier to your stud count as you pick them up.
Location: In the main port area where the Treasure Magnet was, there are 5 pillars near the water in the middle, just jump on them quickly and the hat will appear near them. You only have to tap it just enough and move on to the next pillar. Keep trying if you are having a hard time.

Treasure 4x:
Price: 1,000,000
Requirements: Black Beard
BlackBeard Cheat Code: D3DW0D
Price: 500,000
Description: Adds a times four multiplier to your stud count as you pick them up.
Location: When you unlock Blackbeard you can use a cheat code or play the story Strange Tide to unlock him. Go through the left Gold Port Gate and you'll come to a door across the well, it only can be opened with Blackbeard. Once inside go to the aquarium and use mermaid's or Philip (You get the mermaid in Stange Tide also) scream/sing ability to break a glass and reveal hat.

Treasure 6x:
Price: 1,500,000
Description: Adds a times six multiplier to your stud count as you pick them up.
Location: Treasure 6x is behind the left Gold Port Gate in the well. Just hit the silver pots around the well several times and it should appear inside the well.

Treasure 8x:
Price: 2,000,000
Description: Adds a times eight multiplier to your stud count as you pick them up.
Location: Go through the left Gold Port Gate and go all the way till you reach water. Build the golden bricks here, then use one of the barrels near this area on the newly created barrel switch to raise the bridge. (Just like Fast Dig but your using two barrel switches) Then take the other avalible barrel across the bridge and use it on the barrel switch. This unlocks a door. Go inside and destroy some objects near the camera and you'll find it.

Treasure 10x:
Price: 2,500,000
Description: Adds a times ten multiplier to your stud count as you pick them up.
Location: Go through the right main port gate to the tower with the golden wheel in front of it. Keep building and destroy the golden blocks in front of it till you get an elevator. Ride the elevator to the top then climb the wall and work your way to the the left till you get to a chain you can climb to the top of the tower with. Once on top you will see a spy glass. Use the spy glass to find an island, then look to the left of the island to find a girl. Follow her with the spy glass as she digs 3 different times and when she is finished the red hat will appear.

Does this achievement mean:
1. Reach that total overall throughout the game or:
2 Have exactly 888,888,888 and once you do, it unlocks?

When you are in the main hub (or any of the areas that are around it) when your total studs that you have reaches 888,888,888 (or more) it unlocks. It may also unlock before you get back to the hub if the studs you collected in that mission pushes you over. It doesn't count studs you've spent on items or characters though, so you do have to actually have them all at the time.

I found that I got 930,000,000 (that sort of figure) on 1 play through of Port Royal with all the Red Hats enabled. Meaning you can get it in 1 go (and get the I am a bad man) at the same time :) Don't know if you want to add that to the guide Gen Fire Dragon :)

This is true. I got all the red hats well before I'd really begun my search for minikits and I was routinely getting numbers near a billion studs from the missions. Once you have all the multipliers this is basically in the bag.

For the multipliers? I would suggest buying the x2 and the Always Double Treasure as soon as you can. That way for the rest of your collection it ends up being much faster since you can use the mulitpliers to speed up the process. For instance, to get the x2 you need 500,000. Once you've got that you can use that and you only need to collect 300,000 worth of coins (base value) for the Double Treasure. With those 2 you get 4x the value of each coin so then you only need 250,000 to earn the 1,000,000 for the 4x and so on and so forth. If you do this by the time you're looking for the 10x you get the needed 2,500,000 with only 3260 base value in studs.

So to confirm you have to have 888,888,888 all at once?

Yes, you must have at least that much when you are in the hub world. If you collect enough to go over in a mission you will still not unlock the achievement until you return to the hub. Even if you get 900 million in a single level you still won't unlock this until you return to the hub world.

No they don't just add, they stack, so if you have the X2 and the X4 You don't get 6x the studs you get 8x the studs. So when all are active you get 7680x the studs.

In co-op, this only seems to unlock for player one even if player two has collected over 888,888,888 :(

Yes, because it goes off of the stud total associated with the save file and any such achievements are disabled for the second player. Unfortunately you can't use such a shortcut here.

Also, the math used by darkrplayer2 is laughable lol...

Glad you like it and that it's still helping people out.

Also, the math isn't too bad when you understand where he is coming from. He was adding the bonuses together and only multiplying the Always Double. So he was getting 10 + 8 + 6 + 4 = 28 (he missed the x2 which is understandable since I think this was the only Lego game to have two Red bonuses that gave x2) and then he multiplied by 2 for the Always Does blue to get 56x. His answer was incorrect but it was an understandable mistake.

I got this with one freeplay mission after I had all the multiplyers. No need to grind for this one.

Pretty much. Once you get the multipliers it is pretty much guaranteed you will unlock this as long as you turn them on.

I did buy first x6 and then Double. It did a significant boost, but x8 multiplier glitched on me...

That's odd, how did it glitch for you? Not giving any bonus or giving the wrong bonus? Or did it glitch so you couldn't even buy it?

Also are you playing on a 360 or a One with the backwards compatibility?

I had to get this one quick, I HATE uneven numbers at the end of my GamerScore lol. After unlocking the Port Royal 12g achievement I was immediately annoyed and started going for this.

To add onto Gen Fire Dragon's, not a separate solution.

I have found the best ways to rack up the studs (even if you do or don't have the multipliers, I don't have them, but have access to get both the 8x and 2x multipliers, just need the right amount of Studs), is to get the Studs in the Hub and the Levels using Marty (you usually acquire him early on in the game), he is the one with the White Face, Brown Shirt, and carries the Blunderbuss.

I use Marty because of the Blunderbuss, as he has the ability to break through the silver objects, this is easily visible in the very first room in he first level, at the end of the room, there are silver gates, which you can break through to get an extra ton of studs (even a purple one, several blue ones, and lots of gold and silver ones), and some grates over to the left which connect together through an underwater path, that once again contains several ones (just discovered this path Yesterday actually).

Once again, this is not an actual solution, it is just an add-on to Gen Fire Dragon's solution.

Here is a link for his profile on Brickipedia in case you have issues finding / acquiring him in the game...: http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/Marty.

Another achievement that can be obtained while getting this achievement is There's the Jack I know, which is to get True Pirate in all levels:

Heh, just noticed this solution. That's the exact area I was talking about in my solution, but kudos for giving a great description of how to get there and including an easy character to get there, something I failed to do. If I could give you an upvote I would. clap

Just to add on the other solutions.

Once you have all the multipliers this is a really easy achievement. But a good place to grind out lots of studs is right at the start of the last level of the game, where there is lots of foliage to cut through. Just use the multipliers and keep reloading that level smile
