How to unlock the The Final Countdown achievement in LEGO Rock Band - Definitive Guide

This achievement was one of the few I actually had to work for. It's a very complex solo, and one of the most difficult in the game. There's no surefire way I can tell you how to get it, only tips.

First off, practice it on all speeds. What I did to help make sure I could get it down was to FC the solo 3 times in a row on 50% Speed, then do the same on 60% speed etc.

80% Speed was a bit tricky because now, I had to actually play the solo like it was because it's quite hard to abuse the timing window on the zig-zags. One thing you should notice is that the BYG's, OBR's, the OBY's, and the YRG's in the zig-zags are faster than the other parts, so you'll need to hit those at a faster speed than the other parts. When you can consistently hit the zig-zags, try playing the song out in Free Play or Tour and see if you can get the solo.

The solo outside the zig-zags is much much easier, so if you hit the 2nd zig-zag pattern, it should be very easy to get the rest of the solo, as there's nothing hard outside of a couple quick strummed Greens.

Good luck, this one took me quite a bit of grinding to do.

EDIT 1: I tried it on my alternate account, and unless I'm missing something, you can not do it in practice. And you don't have to FC (100% with your combo not broken at all) the song. You can overstrum as much as you want, as long as you 100% the solo in Free Play or Tour.

EDIT 2: LordMathias:
"Here's a slight, albeit vague, tip: try playing it using different methods. Of course, practice at lower speeds first, but if the fingering method you're trying to use isn't working, try something else. I went from missing in the second RBO part (because my fret pinky sucks) to 100% in practice using tapping in a matter of 20 minutes, and then second try in free play *pop*. If I wasn't lazy I'd post up a video, but yeah."

does this have to be done during a playthrough of the song or can it be done in practice?

A playthrough. This achievement would be way too easy of you could just go to practice and slow it down.

As far as RB achievements go I've previously only had trouble completing expert guitar/drums career in RB1, and I feel like this is just out of my reach. This is a game for kids, do they really expect them to be able to do this?

I wouldn't be surprised if more achievements like this appeared, like the hit all the HO/PO achievements and FC Helter Skelter in TB:RB

Well-written guide... just too bad I can't gain the skill needed for this just by reading it. >_>

Yeah, there's definitely skill that goes into this, but I tried the best that I could do to write a helpful guide.

I will be spending all day tomorrow on this one achievement that will make it a completion for me. So Wish me luck I need the 8.0 achievement ratio anyway and since I can do all songs on all rockband games on all insturments on expert it should not be to tricky just a few hours of work. But def a achievement you put in your trophy case.

Brag fail. too bad expert drumming and expert singing wont save you on this one. neither will just being able to ""Play"" guitar on expert. i might have had more faith in you if you had some guitar achievements in your trophy case.

This is a good excuse for me to hone my finger-tapping skills. Use those little frets, people!

And lol@bragfail essence of evil.

Yeah, just got this the other day, so listen to LordMathias1985's tip trying multiple methods (one handing and no anchoring seemed to be my final one even though tapping seemed to give my hand more of a break), and also try strumming certain hammer-ons in the solo (such as the transition from RBO to YBO zig-zags or exiting the YBO zig-zag). I kept missing for some reason on the transition out of the last zig-zag, so I decided to stum the blue hammer-on note right afterward and became more consistent. It can make all the difference with an engine like this...

I've 100%'d the first half of the solo five times now and haven't hit the second half 100% once. The closest I got was one note missed. (ONE FREAKING NOTE) I know it's just nerves but this is INFURIATING.

I feel so good that it's within my ability now though. I tried this a while back and said "screw it" because I just could not get better than an 80% on it, and now I've hit 99% three times. All types of cool.

Awesome guide. Thanks. =)

^The note windows are stricter in Rock Band, you need to be a little more accurate than in GH.

If you play RB or GH on expert then you can pretty easily get the achievement, it just takes some getting used to lego brick notes, and getting the timing on the zigzags down. My tip would be to not think of it as a zig zag, think of it as a descending HOPO triplet...thing. Hit the 3 notes fast then the next note slow and back to fast again. Confusing in text I know, just don't hit it at the same speed throughout the pattern basically.

Is it bad that I am refraining from doing any achievement other than this one before starting Lego: Rock Band?

^ That's what I did, too. Made sure I didn't unlock anything until I could nail the solo. One-handing this using index, middle, ring finger was how I did it (GH guitar). I haven't played on the plastic 'tar actively for years so it took me about 10 days to get my fingers fast enough to cope with the awkward rhythm. But I did try alot of other methods; using pinky, anchoring, tapping. Nothing was more consistent than the trio of fingers mentioned above. I guess I can thank all the insane practicing I did on Free Bird Solo C in GH2 back in 07 for that :)

Could a turbo controller be used for this?

I have a theory (you all may not agree) that the timing window in Rockband games are way more strict than in Guitar Hero. I feel that if this game was on GH3 I would be able to FC this song many times over. It just takes fun out of the game when you feel like you should be hitting the notes and you don't.

Anyway, enough complaining. I agree with the overstrumming tip because I also have a theory that the timing window of strumming notes is less strict than on HOPOing notes. So a good way to do this would be to strum really fast and then just concentrate on hitting the frets at the right times, since it doesn't matter if you overstrum and still get 100%. That's how I'll probably get this achievment...

PRACTICE!!! That's pretty much it. Although it is possible to use a GH guitar, I highly recommend using a RB Strat. so you don't need to strum during the solo. My method was I kept one finger on one hand on green, and the index and middle finger on my other hand to tap Y,B,Y. Then slide finger from green to red and the other 2 to B,O,B, etc. Try turning on the breakneck speed under options. It will space the notes apart a little more and make them easier to read. Also, practice on slower speeds if you are having trouble. Make sure you're hitting 100% pretty steadily before you go into quickplay/career because playing through the 3:22 before the solo quickly gets annoying.

Good luck TAers.

I just got this achievement using this method. However, you DO have to strum once in the first set of zig-zags, so elbow strumming is necessary unless you do as I did and just played that last zig-zag with one hand.

I believe you are confusing Rock Band with GH. In GH you must strum the first note on a HO or PO. In Rock Band, during the solo, you DO NOT need to strum at all when using the solo buttons. Congrats on the cheev.

Depends on if you're using the Stratocaster or not. I (and many others) use one of the GH controllers, so we still have to strum notes.

To add to the other solutions, you might want to turn on "Breakneck Speed" under the "Extras" and "Modify Game." I was struggling with this, then I turned this on and got 99% the first time after doing so!

Also, if you have a Rock Band guitar, use the solo buttons, even if you aren't very good with them. I'm horrible at tapping, yet this is the easiest method i've found so far.

Oh, and good luck, of course!

Thank you so much for this tip.. i was missing a lot on the solo but with the speed increased I nailed it instantly.

Even tho I just unlocked the song and got the achieve 15 min later.. the speed trick helps a ton. Thumbs up!

Here is the solo FC with hands vid by PoptartsRxtrem3. If you're having problems just keep playing the solo on a slower speed in practice mode until you get it.

I know this solution will seem awkward and strange but this is how I was able to get it for my friends.

During an achievement party, I had trouble getting this for my friends since I was the dedicated HOPO expert. I ended up turning the audio off and playing the song with no sound. Once I did that I got the achievement 7 times in a row. I had already gotten it for myself when I first got the game.

Just something to try.

Try it a few times with no audio.

This is probably the best tip I can give, use the solo buttons. If you are using a rockband guitar there are the 5 main buttons as well as the 5 buttons higher on the neck and what those buttons do is make it so you dont have to strum at all during solos. Using these buttons still took me about 2 hours before I 100% it but it made it so much easier.

This may be the hardest trophy in the game. 100% the solo on The Final Countdown on Expert. There is no real strategy except practice on different speeds until you feel confident. Cannot be unlocked in Practice mode.

Tough achievement here. All I can say is practice. The best thing to do is slide your hand back and forth because most of the solos are HO/PO sliding notes. Practice in practice mode at 50%, then keep playing that until you easily 100% it. Then move up to 60%, keep playing until you 100% it. Keep doing this all the way up to regular speed. Once you can 100% it, play the song and unlock this achievement.
