How to unlock the Wealth lies in the Earth achievement in LEGO The Hobbit - Definitive Guide

There's a great way to both get this achievement and rack up critical loot very quickly.

Go to Bree. Outside the walls of Bree on the North West side (top left) of Bree is a thin path that loops, with a door at the top of the loop. Within here there is several rocks to mine.

Then walk back out and walk past Bree, in a straight line. Within about 20-30 seconds you'll come across a door called "Barrow-downs" (it's near a tall lego cliff face). Within here there's also a ton of rocks to mine.

You can walk back and forth between these two as much as you want, as they refresh each time you go back in (as long as you walk a reasonable distance away from each door; the distance between these two places is enough). Not only can you perfect your mining skills here but amass loot, such as the hard to find diamonds. Obtain the Double Loot and Attract Loot Red Bricks and you'll never be without ever again!

If you have the Pixel Pickaxe treasure it lets you mine perfectly 3 times per ore vein

All around the map you will find glowing/ sparkling rocks with gems/ ores of different colors in them. You need to have a character with a pick axe in order to complete this achievement. Their character description will say that they are able to "mine Lego loot".

Find one of these rock piles, and wait for a shining glow to sweep across it. Press "X" at the same time this occurs, in order to have a better chance at perfect mines. After you press "X", a meter with an arrow will appear, with a small section in the center of the meter which will be the color of whatever ore you are mining. In order to earn a "perfect mine", you need to tap "X" again while the arrow is aimed in that section. You can only do this *once* per ore, just keep that in mind.

The best advice I can offer is to press "X" just before the arrow enters the center area. This will almost always cause it to stop perfectly in the correct area. I found that if you wait to click until the arrow is in the center, that it will usually overshoot the bullseye and you will miss out on it being perfect.

Just do this 50 times over the course of your play, (it only took me between 2-3 hours playing normally) and you'll have it! Best of luck. Let me know if there is anything else I can answer for you.

Happy Hunting!

Solution one above is good but I found if you just go to barrow-downs and mine it out then walk away outside until you hear the door close and go back in over and over it is much quicker than traveling to the other cave back and forth. You will soon get the rhythm of the rocks and BOOM achievo rock

I found the door to barrow-downs was glitched and wouldn’t shut but after some distance of being away from the door and going back in the loot would be reset

This is one of the many mini-games in LEGO The Hobbit. You are first introduced to this in Chapter 1, “Greatest Kingdom in Middle-earth”, where you’ll learn how to mine different types of rock. The dwarf needed is Bofur since he has a pick axe. The mineable rocks will glow and sparkle. Some will be harder and faster paced than others; just take your time and figure out the timing of each one.

In the mini-game, you’ll have to stop the arrow that goes back and forth above your head. The  will glow blue every time you go past the spot. Try to pre-time it so that it lands just right. You have to press  to stop the arrow when it is sticking straight up in the middle to land a perfect mine. If you do, the rock will smash to bits in one hit. Do this 50 times for the achievement. The mini-game looks something like this:

You can grind this achievement AFTER completing Chapter 4, "Roast Mutton". It's in Rivendell, north of the Roast Mutton Sign in Trollshaw on the map. There are a total of 9 rocks to mine here. Follow the ghost studs to where you build three components. There are five mining spots in this area; four along the wall near the build spot and one across from it. When you use up all five of the spots in this area, walk to the back corner by the draw bridge and enter a door into a cave that is covered in overgrowth vines. There are four more rocks (some are hard) in here; smash those. Go back out everything should re-spawned giving you more to perfect hit.
