How to unlock the Not with 10,000 men... achievement in LEGO The Lord of the Rings - Definitive Guide

For this achievement you need to unlock and buy all characters. As you play through the story, characters are unlocked, and can be bought by going to their location in free-roam. The easiest way to figure out where they are is to open up a Map Stone (or use "View Map" from the pause menu), selecting the character you want to buy and then selecting "Set Destination".

Once you've bought all the characters you will need to unlock one additional "special" character for this achievement to pop. You do this by crafting every singly Mithril item at the blacksmith (which also unlocks "Here's a pretty thing!"). Once that is done the blacksmith character will be unlocked (you don't have to buy him), and the achievement should pop.

NOTE: If you look at the character picker, there is one additional character available. This the "Lurtz (Newborn)" character, which can (as far as I can tell) only be unlocked by using the following code: QL28WB. You will need him to achieve 100% completion (if the "There and Back Again" achievement doesn't unlock right away, start a level in Story mode, and it should pop -- at least, it did for me.)

You DO NOT need the Blacksmith to get the achievement, but you do need everyone else.

Actually this achievement did not unlock until I got the blacksmith. I also did not get 100% until I used the cheat for Lutz. I guess this game has a few glitches...

I didn't have blacksmith but I had all the other characters and then put in the code for Lurtz and got my achievement. Guess you don't really need "all" characters so much as "x amount" haha. TY for the guide!

you don't need the blacksmith for this to pop, mine just popped well before I had all the mithril items crafted.

it seems like you have to have either Newborn Lurtz or the blacksmith one. I had everybody except the blacksmith reward, used the code and got the cheevo.

For some reason the achievement didn't pop when I had all but the Blacksmith (I used the cheat code for Lutz (Newborn) when I started the game). When I turned in my next item which happened to be the last mithril brick anyway, the achievement popped

As of November 15, 2015, I got this once I entered the code for Lurtz (Newborn) without having the blacksmith unlocked. I'm guessing it just used a counter, the 12*6 grid has 72 characters, plus 1 of either Lurtz or Blacksmith giving you 73/73 characters.

Also to add to SiebeTolsma's solution, you also need to complete the Bonus Lego Level to unlock Mouth of Sauron and Sauron which if you enter the bonus level, collect a few studs then save and exit, it'll consider you have completed the level and boom both characters unlocked. im not for sure if this is a glitch or not but thats how i got them. I also wanted to point out that i unlocked this achievo without getting the blacksmith character, once again dont know if it was a glitch or not but i unlocked the achievo once i got the two characters in the bonus level.

Sry, SiebeTolsma took down his/her post so my guide looks ridiculious now, once again sorry.

Here's what you would have practically seen in his/her guide:

*Some of your characters will unlock through story mode, the others will be in freeplay, once you have found the mapstones for the area use it and you should see that characters face on the map in the area (obviously if it is dulled out you have already gotten them), just select it and follow the ghost studs to the location and purchase that character, the blacksmith will unlock once you have made all of the mithril items*

It's s'posed to unlock after the blacksmith, not before - but as has been said can glitch & unlock early for some.
The final character is not required for the 'chieve & is unlocked @ 100% completion.

The Witch King isn't at the marker on the map. The marker is where you have to begin, though: go to the front gate of Minas Morgul (the city fortress near the Witch King marker), and use Legolas to start the climbing and swinging path to the left. At the end you'll find him.

So you have to 100% everything to get all the Mithril Bricks needed to craft 100% of the items to unlock the Blacksmith (giving you 100% of the characters). LEGO GAMES!

Guide taken from xbox360achievements.org:

"There are 74 total characters to unlock. Your story mode playthrough will unlock 29 of them, and playing through the bonus level will unlock Sauron and Mouth of Sauron.

43 additional characters will be found wandering around various areas of Middle Earth for purchase. Use your map to make it easier to find them.

The last two characters you will unlock are Blacksmith and Lurtz (Newborn). Upon forging all Mithril items, you will unlock Blacksmith, and upon achieving 100% completion, Lurtz (Newborn) will be unlocked."

So far I've got all the characters except the Blacksmith and Lurtz (Newborn). By far the hardest to get was Sauramon, who is located at the top of Isengard Tower. Be prepared for several attempts to get him...

Due to the extensive list of characters and details of unlocking them I have attached a link to a great guide by Bonefishgamer.

There are 74 characters in the game. 29 of these are unlocked naturally by completing the story, 2 are received for completing the Bonus Level and 41 can be bought in Middle-Earth. 2 characters are unlocked after completing certain tasks: the Blacksmith after crafting all Mithril items, and Lurtz (Newborn) after achieving 100%. Lurtz (Newborn), however, does not count towards this trophy for some reason.

To purchase a character, first activate the Map Stone in an area to make the character’s icon show up on the map, or simply find them yourself by roaming around. If they are a good character, you will have the option to purchase them straight away and if they are an evil character, you will have to punch them a few times before they stop attacking you before you can purchase them.

In addition to this, there are cheat codes to unlock certain characters within the game and thus save you the studs required to purchase them. This means that you do not have to collect them in Free Roam and they will automatically disappear from your map. The codes are as follows:

  • Berserker (UE5Z7H)
  • Bilbo Baggins (J4337V)
  • Boromir (Captain) (HTYADU)
  • Denethor (RJV4KB)
  • Easterling (R7XKDH)
  • Elrond (2nd Age) (A9FB4Q)
  • Eomer (U47AOG)
  • Galadriel (7B4VWH)
  • Gamling (AVJII1)
  • Gondor Ranger (LG5GI7)
  • Grima Wormtongue (BU95CB)
  • Hama (73HJP6)
  • King of the Dead (IH7E58)
  • Lothlórien Elf (C2A58D)
  • Lurtz (Newborn) (QL28WB)
  • Madril (C19F3A)
  • Mouth of Sauron (F4M7FC)
  • Radagast the Brown (5LV6EB)
  • Ringwraith White (LYQU1F)
  • Shagrat (PJB6MV)

For a complete list of characters and where to find them, follow Section 7 of CyricZ’s guide here.
