How to unlock the We cannot linger. achievement in LEGO The Lord of the Rings - Definitive Guide
I will list exactly what I did:
1) Start the level in Story Mode (you can't achieve this on Free Play)
2) Get to the last save statue in the level (after going through a big door, before the giant staircase) and save at the statue.
3) Pause, and quit. Select Exit Level (not Save and Exit) and once you are back in Middle Earth, quit to the title screen.
4) Load your game up again, and start the Mines of Moria. The game will start you at the save statue, but the timer will now be back at 0:00
5) Finish the level, and you are guaranteed to get it as the last section only takes a few minutes.
EDIT: Looks like this solution does indeed work! And MathGuy42 has confirmed you don't need to quit to the title screen, just re-enter the level from the map screen.
2nd EDIT: Well, after two years this still works, so I think it is safe to say this will never be patched.
Also, quitting all the way back to the Title Screen isn't necessary. After returning to Middle Earth, I immediately went back into the mission via the Map.
THIS ACHIEVEMENT HAS BEEN PATCHED, SO YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN IT USING THIS SOLUTION UNLESS YOU DO NOT ALLOW THE GAME TO UPDATE. YOU CAN ALSO TRY CLEARING YOUR CACHE IF THE GAME HAS ALREADY UPDATED.
Original solution text:
THIS ONLY WORKS IN A REPLAY OF STORY MODE!
Oh, wow, what an oversight.
Okay, so I'm trying for this achievement, and I restart the Story Mode version of the level. I play until the Troll and then have difficulty getting him to slam his chain mace down on the proper spots on the ledges. I'm standing right on the thing and he's hitting to the left and right of it - wasting time essentially.
I went to the other side, same thing...
Frustrated I decided to restart and try my luck again, so I saved and exited the level back to Middle-Earth. As the game tallied my collected studs the achievement popped.
I don't know if it'll happen any sooner in the level, but it's worth a shot.
This seems like something that might get patched soon.
Get it before they fix the glitch
1. Obtain and turn on the Red Brick that allows you to fast build.
2. Obtain and turn on the Red Brick that Rejuvenates your hearts.
(I'm sorry but I can not remember where the quest givers for those particular bricks were or what the quest items were for those bricks.)
3.Do a couple of practice runs through the level to learn the absolute minimum to advance the progress of the level.
4. Remember this has to be done in Story Mode, not Free Play.
5. During the Troll Battle, when you are trying to get Legolas to jump, do not spam the "A" button. Once he is in place to make the jump, just hit the "A" button once. Spamming will result in a failed jump attempt and cost you time.
6. When Gandolf is falling though the chasm, hold the "A" button down to speed up his dive.
7.Skip cut scenes whenever they occur.
8.By doing these simple things I was able to pick up this achievement quite easily.
***Edit: Greedy136, your comment is true; it is easier to complete this achievement in co-op mode. However the main point of my solution was that this achievement is doable in single player mode. ***
Here are the steps:
1. Go to the Settings tab
2. Go to System
3. Go down to your device (hard drive) and hit the Y button
4. Clear System Cache
5. Start the game and DO NOT DOWNLOAD the update
6. Start the Mines of Moria level, collect a few studs and then Save & Exit
I never cleared my cache or anything like that. But here is the big difference. I digitally downloaded my game onto the hard drive when it went on sale a few months back. So if you have this game as a digital download this technique should work fine. But I'm assuming that disc games have the patch and therefore this won't work.
So digital did benefit on this achievement. Unfortunately there are several glitches that aren't fixed and it never offers me an update. But as far as this achievement goes, it saved a lot of time. Hope this clears a few things up for folks.
I've tried this one twice with a friend, and the achievements was easy to get.
You will need to know how to go about and who will do what, but it will be much easier and you'll go through with time to spare. Skip the cutscenes, this will help as others have written.
The upside is, that you will also be awarded with the achievement:
The glitch has indeed been fixed as written above.
1 - Play till you reach the last save point in the level, it is just before the final big stair case section
2 - Pause and then exit the level (do not save and exit just exit)
3 - Once back in the overworld load the level again from the map and finish the level
Doing the above steps sets the timer back to 0:00 allowing you to have the full 15 minutes for the last 3-4 minutes of the mission.
This achievement can only be earned on the fifth story chapter, The Mines of Moria.
Normally this achievement would be quite a challenge, as 'The Mines of Moria is a fairly long level to complete in under 15 minutes.
However, this achievement is exploitable. Simply enter the level in story mode, immediately press start, and save and exit, and the achievement will unlock. The game senses that you 'completed' the level in under 15 minutes, even though you just exited the level.
If the exploit is not unlocking the achievement for you, try to earn it legitimately. The opposite also applies; it seems that if one method doesn't work for you specifically, the other will. Regardless of method used, this MUST be done in story mode.
I know for a fact this works because I just did it myself.
This trophy is extremely simple, as you can use the same trick for this as you did with I’m glad to be with you. Load up the level in Story mode (not Free Play as it won’t count) and wait for 30 seconds until “Save and Exit” appears in the Pause menu. Do so, and this trophy will unlock.
UPDATE: This exploit has been fixed with Patch 1.01, so you must either earn the trophy legitimately or alternatively, delete (or refuse) the patch, earn the trophy and then install the patch again.
This trophy is easy to earn legitimately too, as the time limit is not strict at all if you have already completed the level and know where you are going.
