How to unlock the We cannot linger. achievement in LEGO The Lord of the Rings - Definitive Guide

For those of you who don't want the hassle of clearing your cache, there is another, just-as-easy method.
I will list exactly what I did:

1) Start the level in Story Mode (you can't achieve this on Free Play)
2) Get to the last save statue in the level (after going through a big door, before the giant staircase) and save at the statue.
3) Pause, and quit. Select Exit Level (not Save and Exit) and once you are back in Middle Earth, quit to the title screen.
4) Load your game up again, and start the Mines of Moria. The game will start you at the save statue, but the timer will now be back at 0:00
5) Finish the level, and you are guaranteed to get it as the last section only takes a few minutes.

Now, this worked for me first try, but I'd appreciate feedback to see if it works for you too. (there is a small possibility that the timer doesn't reset and I just did it in time anyway, but I'm fairly certain I took longer than fifteen minutes)

EDIT: Looks like this solution does indeed work! And MathGuy42 has confirmed you don't need to quit to the title screen, just re-enter the level from the map screen.
2nd EDIT: Well, after two years this still works, so I think it is safe to say this will never be patched.

Worked for me also. Great solution! I intentionally took more than 15 minutes before I got to the final save statue. The timer must be resetting.

Also, quitting all the way back to the Title Screen isn't necessary. After returning to Middle Earth, I immediately went back into the mission via the Map.

EDIT: 1/6/14 - Apparently this solution still works with the digital version of the game.

THIS ACHIEVEMENT HAS BEEN PATCHED, SO YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN IT USING THIS SOLUTION UNLESS YOU DO NOT ALLOW THE GAME TO UPDATE. YOU CAN ALSO TRY CLEARING YOUR CACHE IF THE GAME HAS ALREADY UPDATED.

Original solution text:

THIS ONLY WORKS IN A REPLAY OF STORY MODE!

Oh, wow, what an oversight.

Okay, so I'm trying for this achievement, and I restart the Story Mode version of the level. I play until the Troll and then have difficulty getting him to slam his chain mace down on the proper spots on the ledges. I'm standing right on the thing and he's hitting to the left and right of it - wasting time essentially.

I went to the other side, same thing...

Frustrated I decided to restart and try my luck again, so I saved and exited the level back to Middle-Earth. As the game tallied my collected studs the achievement popped.

I don't know if it'll happen any sooner in the level, but it's worth a shot.

This seems like something that might get patched soon.

You can only get the achievement in Story Mode no matter how you approach it. Would have been nice of them to specify.

Yep, got it. Needless to say that you can only save and exit when you enter Story Mode on this level from the 2nd time. You need to play the whole level first, then go back into story mode for this level, grab a few studs, press start and select save and exit. Whoops there it is!

I have verified that clearing the system cache allows you still get this in the old way. Before launching the game, go to Settings > System > Storage and highlight the hard drive, then press (Y) for Device Options and select Clear System Cache. When you launch the game, Cancel instead of downloading the patch. This will let you play without the update and the original solution will work. I just got it this way.

@A 0 UB3RLOZ3R - I mention in the description that I was replaying Story Mode. I didn't bother to check if it worked in Free Play because it was irrelevant at that point.

And if you tried to start and then quit out of Free Play to get it, how much time did that set you back? A couple of minutes?

The option of quitting the level and getting the achievement has been patched. However this achievement is quite doable.

1. Obtain and turn on the Red Brick that allows you to fast build.
2. Obtain and turn on the Red Brick that Rejuvenates your hearts.
(I'm sorry but I can not remember where the quest givers for those particular bricks were or what the quest items were for those bricks.)
3.Do a couple of practice runs through the level to learn the absolute minimum to advance the progress of the level.
4. Remember this has to be done in Story Mode, not Free Play.
5. During the Troll Battle, when you are trying to get Legolas to jump, do not spam the "A" button. Once he is in place to make the jump, just hit the "A" button once. Spamming will result in a failed jump attempt and cost you time.
6. When Gandolf is falling though the chasm, hold the "A" button down to speed up his dive.
7.Skip cut scenes whenever they occur.
8.By doing these simple things I was able to pick up this achievement quite easily.

***Edit: Greedy136, your comment is true; it is easier to complete this achievement in co-op mode. However the main point of my solution was that this achievement is doable in single player mode. ***

It's actually not that hard. I did it in two tries as in the first try I had problems with the troll coming over to the sides for Merry/Pippin aswell as getting Gimli up fast at the end.

I have not tried this yet, but shouldn't it be easier in coop? In coop, both players split halfway through the level and player 1 fights Balrog whereas player 2 continues with the rest of the bunch. This should save time. Player 1 rejoins after the Gandalf solo part, by the way.

I did this today and it worked still. Go to the map in story mode and just quit and save back to the middle-earth.

This does work solo; I did it as my last achievement so had the invincibility red brick turned on too which I think helped. The main issues I had was getting the troll to come over to the correct side to jump on with a hobbit, as sometimes the glowing spot didn't appear if I went up there too quickly.

The glitch with being able to save and exit has now been fixed, but you can simply clear your cache to get the achievement on the glitch. This only works if you are using the disc-based version of the game.

Here are the steps:

1. Go to the Settings tab
2. Go to System
3. Go down to your device (hard drive) and hit the Y button
4. Clear System Cache
5. Start the game and DO NOT DOWNLOAD the update
6. Start the Mines of Moria level, collect a few studs and then Save & Exit

Let me tell you what works for me. I started the level. and begin the fight with the cave troll. After getting a couple of shots on him I stopped and returned to middle earth. Achievement unlocked.

I never cleared my cache or anything like that. But here is the big difference. I digitally downloaded my game onto the hard drive when it went on sale a few months back. So if you have this game as a digital download this technique should work fine. But I'm assuming that disc games have the patch and therefore this won't work.

So digital did benefit on this achievement. Unfortunately there are several glitches that aren't fixed and it never offers me an update. But as far as this achievement goes, it saved a lot of time. Hope this clears a few things up for folks.

The easiest way, is to do this in co-op mode.
I've tried this one twice with a friend, and the achievements was easy to get.
You will need to know how to go about and who will do what, but it will be much easier and you'll go through with time to spare. Skip the cutscenes, this will help as others have written.
The upside is, that you will also be awarded with the achievement:
LEGO The Lord of the RingsI'm glad to be with you.The I'm glad to be with you. achievement in LEGO The Lord of the Rings worth 12 pointsComplete a level in co-op.

The glitch has indeed been fixed as written above.

This achievement can be obtained by playing through the level in story mode (does not work in free play) and following the steps below.

1 - Play till you reach the last save point in the level, it is just before the final big stair case section
2 - Pause and then exit the level (do not save and exit just exit)
3 - Once back in the overworld load the level again from the map and finish the level

Doing the above steps sets the timer back to 0:00 allowing you to have the full 15 minutes for the last 3-4 minutes of the mission.

This achievement can only be earned on the fifth story chapter, The Mines of Moria.

Normally this achievement would be quite a challenge, as 'The Mines of Moria is a fairly long level to complete in under 15 minutes.

However, this achievement is exploitable. Simply enter the level in story mode, immediately press start, and save and exit, and the achievement will unlock. The game senses that you 'completed' the level in under 15 minutes, even though you just exited the level.

If the exploit is not unlocking the achievement for you, try to earn it legitimately. The opposite also applies; it seems that if one method doesn't work for you specifically, the other will. Regardless of method used, this MUST be done in story mode.

Theres another glitch where you get to the part where the stair case collapses. Save and exit there. Start from there and get it.

You don't even need to play to the end of the level. After completing it, simply load The Mines of Moria in Story Mode (can't be done in Free Play), pick up a couple studs (you can't save if you don't pick them up), and save and exit.

I know for a fact this works because I just did it myself.

This trophy is extremely simple, as you can use the same trick for this as you did with I’m glad to be with you. Load up the level in Story mode (not Free Play as it won’t count) and wait for 30 seconds until “Save and Exit” appears in the Pause menu. Do so, and this trophy will unlock.

UPDATE: This exploit has been fixed with Patch 1.01, so you must either earn the trophy legitimately or alternatively, delete (or refuse) the patch, earn the trophy and then install the patch again.

This trophy is easy to earn legitimately too, as the time limit is not strict at all if you have already completed the level and know where you are going.
