How to unlock the Duet achievement in LEGO Worlds - Definitive Guide
This does not need to be another human player, this can be done with an NPC. Just make sure you already have a second instrument on you.
Some NPC's will ask for an instrument as a quest. For me, I found a Rocker Girl (she wears turquoise and black clothes, and has bright pink hair) in the Spooky Woods, and she wanted an electric guitar. I also found a Skater Girl (black clothes, purple striped arms, with black and purple hair) in the scrapyard biome who wanted the same thing.
When you hand over the instrument for the quest they will start playing it straight away, so simply pull out another instrument and play with them!

They won't, however, immediately play their instrument if they have a follow-up quest :/
Also, apparently the drum kit does not count as an instrument - that or you can't do it with a second controller. I set up with 2nd controller on drum kit and main on guitar, and achievement did not unlock.

This can be done with multiple players or with an NPC. You will need to obtain two different instruments, which are inventory items, and have two separate players play the two separate instruments. Some NPCs are playing an instrument after you complete a quest, so that is an option as well.
Instruments can be found in any random chest. With two different instruments in your inventories, both characters need to equip one and hold to play together.
This co-op achievement can be done online or with two controllers.
