I had this pop for me while selling items (Dynamite = 75k studs) to the Night Trader (Balloon vendor that comes out at night)

Another method some people might want to try is to drop a build down that has a chest. Ninjago Bamboo Forest is a free DLC item from the builds showcase, once you download it place it down somewhere in any map and in there should be a small pink/red chest hidden among the bamboo. Smack open the chest and you should get between 300-500k studs, though it would appear you can only get that amount from this chest once, so don't attempt to farm out the 1billion studs achievement.

I accidentally unlocked this achievement when I got the Legendary 1x1 Brick. There are several chests around it, and each of them has several blue and purple studs. Open them all in quick succession, and this achievement will pop.
To get to the world for the legendary 1x1 brick, you need a total of 80 gold bricks. I used this guide to find & unlock it:

This is for collecting 60,000+ studs from opening chests. This is easy to obtain when you go to get the Legendary bricks, as they should have that many studs in the chests around it. If you don’t get it there, and you use the current trick for Billionaire!, then you’ll get it there as well. Also, some dungeons also have high chest payouts that may net you this trophy.

There are several ways to achieve this - some quests will reward you with 60,000+ studs, dungeons often contain several chests that will give you a large amount of studs, or you can wait until you're searching out the Legendary Bricks as they have two chests beside them containing 60,000 studs each.
